I too love the brothers of Iraq the Model and Free Iraqi. Your excellent post gives them the credit they deserve.

In my many efforts to convince my LLL family and friends that the Iraq War makes sense (and that Bush and Cheney aren't evil monsters), I've always referred them to the "Iraqi bloggers."

But, as I'm sure you also have discovered, the LLLs do not want to learn new things or to be bothered with new points of view. Too bad, because, as you said, it's like reading works by the people who actually created the free society that we enjoy today.

Well said. Isn't it ironic and sad that the left, traditionally soidealistic and romantic, cannot revel in the heroism and idealism of these people?

Thanks Louise, I didn't catch the error myself, although I Googled it to try to make sure I remembered the name correctly (it's been awhile since I've read the blog, since he stopped writing it some time ago). Apparently, others have made the same error as I (Salman Rushdie on the brain???), because Google did return some people referencing him as "Salman." Obviously, they were as remiss as I. I appreciate the correction, and will make the change in the text.

meander--Thanks. I've always wanted to let the Iraq the Model guys know how important they've been to so many of us. They are always well worth reading--so, it's not too late!

Such a heartfelt, beautiful tribute...thank you for saying things that are so worth saying. I have read posts at Iraq the Model when linked by others and consequently have missed alot of their inspiring and insightful observations. Obviously, my loss.

neo-neocon, just one little point. I've never posted here before, so sorry for bitching when I do finally arrive, but it is "Salam" (Arabic word for "peace") and "Pax" (Latin word for "peace"). "Salman" is an Arabic name, but it's not the one chosen by the owner of the "Where's Raed" blog.
