I don’t think this is fair to those shows, although true.
How many cops shows do you know who never solved a case? Even if there was an “unsolved case”, it is in the context of one of the detectives reopening it and solving it.
NYPD Blue was the same.
It’s a pretty rare show that has any cases left open and unsolved. The original Dragnet may have done that once in a while.
Ditto Law shows… how many cases can you recall where the attorneys in question lost a case with an innocent involved?

With TV shows like CSI and Law & Order, many people get the wrong idea that most crimes are solved routinely. This post is a perfect example of the reality in law enforcement. Most crimes are never solved. Those that are solved at a later date (cold cases) are solved as a consequence of a deathbed confession and not the crime labs and brilliant detective work.
