The nearly geriatric Rolling Stones have a new song out called “Sweet Neo Con.”
“It is not really aimed at anyone,” Jagger said on the entertainment-news show’s Wednesday edition. “It’s not aimed, personally aimed, at President Bush. It wouldn’t be called ’Sweet Neo Con’ if it was.”
Not aimed at anyone? Right, Mick; I’ll never tell.

-I recall reading a list somewhere about the educational levels of stars and singers who have jumped into the arena of foreign affairs and domestic policy - it seems many had but a high school education and a fair number had never even completed a college degree -
That’s pretty much true of all stars and singers, whether they make political statements or not. William Goldman commented on it in his “Adventures in the Screen Trade”. This doesn’t, of course, mean that all stars are dumb. For every Tom Cruise you’ve got a Kid Rock, and, as will franklin said, “Keef” certainly doesn’t hold with appeasing terrorists.

Rick Lippincott:
Are you sure the Stones remember it?

Of course the Rolling Stones had to come up with an anti-war song.
Mick is likely still embarrassed that his 1991 Gulf War protest song “Highwire” had the bad timing to be released about a week after the war ended.
And I may be the last living person (other than the Stones) who actually remembers that song.

I’m with you–I thought it was going to be a love song from the title.
As a conservative academic, I sympathize with your situation. Keep the faith!

Mick probably thought the reference was to the penal system.

Apparently “Keef” Richards isn’t very keen on the lyric.
