Strategic quote-cropping at the NY Times — 8 Comments

  1. They really should have picked some guy from a different military branch. Picking a Marine… is both dangerous as well as insulting. It’s too bad Bush won’t take advantage of this to defend the honor of the Marines.

True, that burns, but you get over it.

The military has been insulted enough times, that they have developed their own version of “up-armoredness”.

This is so true too. This was said in the Marine Corps from someone I don’t remember.

“Fear not the terroists, but rather the media. For the terroists are only able to kill you, the media will take your honor.”

    So true, and so sad.

Too bad execution for sedition isn’t on the books…
I clearly see the words Corporal Starr believed strongly in the war in the Times article.

Uh, hohohehe, oh the ignorancy of the uninitiated.

The story is meant to demoralize. And you can’t demoralize people without raising their morale at first. To raise people’s morale, you present to them a picture of a fighting man’s Marine, the leanest of the lean in combat branch arms and ferocity, and show how such a person believed strongly in the war and still wanted to get out because he was tired

At this point, people are now hoping the best for the Marine, knowing that this guy has given his all, and people feel sympathy to veterans that are burned out.

Then BOOM, then comes the executioner’s knife, eviscerating the fleeting hope with the stunning words of “Deathhhhh”.

It would have worked better if they picked on an Airforce guy, however. But they picked the Marines for the morale destruction, instead of going for National Guard or Air Force for “security and reliability”.

  3. I use mozila myself. Needed the extra features. It was funny cause it kept asking me to log in to blogger, until I realized something.

  4. It was obviously an edit by a govt run amok. We have already seen thier digital manipulations in rigging the last election which Kerry should have won, what is editing a letter on this guys laptop compared to that? It is up to the fine people at NYT to rectify this – we all know the troops over there are forced against thier will to fight an illegal and immoral war.

Or, something like that I guess – pick your reasons why the MSM is still correct. It can’t be that the MSM are a bunch of total and complete liars who have such a strong agenda and feel that thier goals are so noble that any means is accpetable. It couldn’t be that, no – it must be a vast right wing conspiracy to distort everything – the MSM is only reporting Truth.

  5. Thanks karrde; as you can see by my previous comment, that’s the one I actually was trying to link to.

Firefox is good, but it seems to have its own strangenesses when coupled with Blogger.

  6. It’s fixed now, thanks!

This is a new glitch that has been happening lately when I try to post using Firefox–every now and then the link morphs into something else when the thing is published. Very odd.
