Don’t get me wrong; I do indeed enjoy a party, and hardly ever turn down an opportunity to go to one.
But I’ve always seen New Year’s Eve more as a time for reflection and nostalgia than wild celebration, kind of bittersweet: out with the old, in with the new, transitions, changes, auld lang syne, all that jazz. As a teenager, I did my raucous bit in going to Times Square, but nowadays it’s more likely to be a get-together with old friends, as it is tonight (with a stop-off at my mother’s place; they party rather early there).
I want to wish all of you a wonderful New Year’s Eve, partying or no, wild or staid, late or early–and, more importantly, a wonderful New Year.

Happy New Year, Neo.
Yes, your blog posts, like real thoughts, are too long and complicated. That’s why what you do is both so good AND so important — you do complex more succinctly than anybody else I’ve found.
(Michael writes a bit better; MUCH better than me. But he treats simpler issues. Also leaves more unsaid, less explaining.)
“I hate Bush” — how’s this
‘Hmm; who do you like?’

Happy, happy, happy New Year to you, dear blogfriend.

Happy New Year. As expected, the neighborhood celebration was an exercise in keeping my tongue sheathed. But, I am beginning to feel like a Jesuit in England during the reign of Bloody Mary. The occasional person sidles up to indicate a need to be confessed and make an honest act of contrition.
I am passing on a gift I received in email this morning. The immortal Bobe Hope delivers one of the all time best movie lines.

Just before leaving to walk up the street for a neighborhood celebration…..
Wonderful news! Dissident Frogman has moved back and is sweeping out his blog and re-hanging the curtains. Happy, Joy, Joy, dance down the street.

Thanks for helping inspire me to blog (now at Flares into Darkness).
And, by the way, I think your posts should be longer!

Happy New Year, neo.
I only found your blog within the last three months or so, and it’s become one of my favorites.
Incidentally, as I’ve gotten older (I turn 48 on Monday), I’ve also begun to regard New Year’s Eve as kind of bittersweet, marking the inexorable march of time.
