He said, "I guess I was taken aback by the harshness of the words." That is not a denial. It sounds like a dodge. In my opinion, if we explicitly threatened Pakistan over its belligerence towards India, then it was perfectly appropriate. And, really, none of us know exactly what was going on behind the scenes in the days after 9/11, so we wouldn't know whether it would have been appropriate to threaten Pakistan then.
