The only purpose for reading a Krugman column is to sharpen one’s ability to recognize both disinformation and contortive reasoning.
It’s true Krugman makes some points in this column(before launching disinformation in the final paragraphs). However, I assert your own commenters are more informative and credible than Paul Krugman.
When I was a young man, I was taken along on a double date with two English girls who were on holiday in America. Later, recounting the evening to another friend, I puzzled over some things the English girls said and did. My friend started laughing at me. He said: “Greg, just because they’re from England doesn’t mean they’re not stupid!”
That’s how I feel about Paul Krugman. Just b/c he’s in the NYT doesn’t mean he’s not stupid.
Actually, that’s also how I feel about Bob Hebert and almost everyone else in the NYT Editorial Page.

Vanderleun: would it help if I say that I got the Krugman piece from Real Clear Politics?
That was a waste of my time… the man is clueless, as are the Dems… the dems are socialists, well they don’t know the demographics of this country, and no one has thought to really pay attention.
The dems hate western culture, they are so communist driven, that the ones that aren’t are the minority. Period. Their followers hate the culture too (they are told to), but mostly because they don’t know anything about it. All they know is that they aren’t learning it because it’s so bad it can’t be taught. It’s responsible for all the worlds’ horrors, and if we teach it, it will destroy us. It’s why they don’t know about the real horrors.
There is a real silent majority in this country, and in truth, they seem like they are quite lazy when it comes to acting and protecting their interests against people attacking those interests. And there is a good reason why. The values that founded this country are how they live and for most of them those values is to go about your life and let everyone else go about theirs.
The majority of this country is made up of the people she is giving a voice to. They are not racists, they are not hateful. They have great values, and they want to keep them.
But they also have something else that the dems and the young and certain others don’t have, and that’s EXPERIENCE.
As she points out, many of them came from the countries where the real horrors were.
Mrs lazarus words have called them for a long time. Where did Jewish refugees go eventually? Where did some Vietnamese and Cambodian boat people go?
But before that, the ones who have been here a while, where did and why did they come here? The germans, the irish, the Italians, the slavs, the czecks, the ukranians, the Slovaks, the Spanish, and so many.
They came here when America was not the shiniest apple, and after they made it a great place to be, with the most freedom in the world, it was then that others want this apple.
My heritage is Slovak on one side, Latvian on the other. my grandfather came here early part of last century, and was illiterate. Most of them worked the coal mines of ohio. He had a wife and child and when he had enough for them and wrote back, they said no and stayed (it is thought that they have died since the communists came to town). He met my grandmother a Czeck, and married, never speaking again of the past. He spoke six languages but could barely read and write. Grandmother was illiterate all her life. my fathers parents were landowners (what would have been called kulaks in another country), and researchers, butchers (pork chops, etc), teachers… they eviscerated my grandfather for sport when they occupied the place, and my grandmother and father escaped to America. Most everyone else ended up in the camps, and after occupation, there was no way to contact them or find them.
These are the people that they are hating, and lumping in when they start talking as if the US was like European countries in which the people living there have histories going back to the original humans from Africa, and these newcomers never had a place.
The vast majority of Americans came after the incidents of discussion. I wonder is anyone going to start fighting for restitution for the men who came here as indentured servants and those conscripted to work Virginia?
Mostly though, there is a large population of people descended from the people who were here in 1960… and so most outside the cities, do know about what we fought for, and even if the kids don’t, the boomers are not dead yet. Meanwhile, the way the world is heating up, we may end up in a situation where these leftist dolts might get to see the truth BEFORE things change. And if they change, they are going to change fast, in Latvia, it was over in a week, twice. Then it was cattle cars, and just horrors that are beyond what they imagine the horrors of the US are.
Well, way down in the comments was the best description of Obama I have ever heard.

Read the following in Human Events:
This says it all…. While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75 year old Texas
rancher, whose hand was caught in a gate while working cattle, the doctor
struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually the topic got around
to Barack Obama and his bid to be our President. The old rancher said,’Well,
ya know, Obama is a ‘post turtle’.’ Not being familiar with the term, the
doctor asked him what a ‘post turtle’ was. The old rancher said,’When you’re
driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle
balanced on top, that’s a ‘post turtle’.’ The old man saw a puzzled look on
the doctor’s face, so he continued to explain. ‘You know he didn’t get up
there by himself, he doesn’t belong up there, he doesn’t know what to do
while he is up there, and you just want to help the dumb a__ get down.’

not mine, enjoy it all you want… but when i found it, it was a great way to sum up the concept of a puppet on a stick. 🙂
