Others have observed that the Carly Simon song “You’re So Vain” is an excellent description of Obama’s reaction to Bush’s Knesset speech.
But they haven’t gone far enough with the lyrics. I have attempted to fill that need:
You walked into the Party like you were walking onto a yacht
Your voice strategically sounds like Camelot
Your flag pin had gone to pot
You had one eye on the mirror as you watched yourself, you were hot;
And all the girls dreamed that they’d be your partner
They’d be your partner and…
You’re so vain, you probably think this speech is about you
You’re so vain, I’ll bet you think this speech is about you
Don’t you? Don’t you?
You won states several months ago when we were still quite naive
When you said that you’d bring us all change and love
And that we should just believe
But with Wright and Ayers and Ahmadinejad, you think we must be naive
And all those dreams are just clouds in your coffee
Clouds in your coffee, and…
You’re so vain, you probably think this speech is about you
You’re so vain, I’ll bet you think this speech is about you
Don’t you? Don’t you?
Well I hear you went down to Carolina and you just naturally won
Then you flew your Lear Jet from West Virginia
To flee the total eclipse of your run
Well you’re where you should be all the time
And when you’re not you’re with
Some journalist pal who is now your real close friend
Now your real close friend, and…
You’re so vain, you probably think this speech is about you
You’re so vain, I’ll bet you think this speech is about you
Don’t you? Don’t you?
[ADDENDUM: Mark Steyn sizes up the “bunch of self-absorbed ninnies” that now seem to be leading the Democratic Party.]

LOL…What a great song!
Has anyone coined the phrase “Obamatons” to describe his followers and the press yet?
May 17th, 2008 at 9:36 am
Very clever, Neo, but I would change the third line to:
“Your flag pin, it was naught”
May 17th, 2008 at 9:52 am
[…] Neo-neocon has a similar parody. If like minds think alike, I feel sorry for […]
May 17th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
Darn good! I can’t get anything to rhyme beyond “Nantucket”.
May 17th, 2008 at 2:05 pm
Lol doesn’t do laughing out loud justice in some cases. This is one.
Excellent!

That was great!

“Appeasement”, it seems, is the next word Dems want to prohibit using in politcorrect speech. Their fury is very irrational - and very revealing. While the most probable subjects of the Bush reproach were James Baker and Jimmy Carter, who really were architects of ME policy so damaging to Israel, Dems see the “A” word as description of their policy - and rightly so.

Fun lyrics.
Could Pres. Bush’s “appeasement” be a cousin of Pres. Reagan’s: “evil empire”?
In impossible diplomatic situations, is Pres. Bush the first powerful person to point out the jaw jaw emperor has no clothes?
Could President Bush’ statement one day be viewed as a historical clarion (as Pres. Reagan’s statement is viewed)? If so, what gives President Bush’ statement such power and notoriety?
May 18th, 2008 at 9:19 am
Great stuff. The Left’s insanity over the President’s use of “appeasment” show’s their fear of being shown for what they are. This is gonna get good.

Remember the Dylan song…I paraphrase
“You know somethin’s happening/But you don’t know what it is/Do you, Mr. Jones (here substitute ‘Mr Obama’)?”
I rest my case…

To place Bush’s words in proper context, you should read this:
http://debka.com/article.php?aid=1350
They could refer to Israeli peaceniks and its feeble leadership, that had squandered an opportunity to rout Hezbollah.

And this:

After some reflection, I realized that maybe Obama doesn’t have such a thin skin after all.
The actual result of the dust-up is to eliminate Hillary from the conversation. And eliminate her from the news. The visible contest is, for these few days at least, between McCain/Bush and Obama.
This shift in perceptions should be good for a few more superdelegates for Obama, more if he can keep pushing Hillary out of the limelight.
Smart or Lucky? I don’t know.

Calling the democratic leadership a “bunch of self-absorbed ninnies” is being much too kind. The US Democratic Party has become dominated by lobotomised leftists who have to pull their heads out of their *ss*s to shave in the morning, then promptly return their heads back in place for serious business.

Bad news. The White House specifically stated that Duh-buhya’s words were directed at Obama, then pulled the usual 180 spin after Obama’s response.
Reagan appeased the Iranians with armaments back in the 1980s and you people worship him for his “tough treatment” of terrorists. Please explain to me why Obama’s willingness to talk is worse than Reagan’s arming of those bazturds. Is it because Reagan was violating the laws HE signed himself, is THAT why he’s tough while Obama is “weak”?
Barry Goldwater would endorse Obama over McCain, especially after Duh-buhya passing on $10 TRILLION in DEFERRED TAX INCREASES to future generations. The NeoCons have betrayed everyone, even the Republican party. The coming “Liberal Rout of 2008″ is squarely on your shoulders, and we True Conservatives won’t be able to get control back until after The Point Of No Return.

Danometer Says:

Okay, we didn’t care which side won. A few people (whom I agreed with) at the time said straight up it would be great if both sides could loose. Ergo, giving both sides weapons and/or other help to weaken each other was in our interest.

Danometer Says:

Sure, Barry Obama has already signed on to a bunch of new tax increases that will flush the economy. Lifting the social security cap… there is 6% more on employers… and another 6 on our taxes. Cap gains… and that’s just he has already owned up to… none the less, enough to push our taxes up there with stagnant social dem Euro countries…

I always find it funny when people accuse the other sides leaders of being just like them.
If Reagan was so close to your idea on foreign policy why do you not like the guy? Really - you want to convince me that a president that you dislike (for policy reasons) believes exactly as you do therefore I should also agree with you?
Obviously Danometer fully well knows the answer to his question and is shown in his disdain for him. But leftist/liberals always seem to find this an “effective” argument. I can’t say how many hated conservative leaders were actually highly liberal.
I find this syndrome even funnier when stating that Goldwater would support the furthest left/big govt presidential candidate the US has ever seen. Yea, keep repeating that - maybe make some “Goldwater for Obama” pins. I’m sure there are quite a number of conservatives will think “Dang, if Goldwater spoke from his grave to this guy and said Obama is a small govt conservative it *must* be true” - either that or you look like a real idiot.

Bush should spend the next 5 months pounding these fascist libs till the blood vessels on their heads explode.
The Audacity of Hope machine simply needs the truth to be told about it.
Barry Goldwater would have supported Obama? My goodness. The level of delusion in the democrat party has reached a fever pitch.

Kudos to your creativity!! I love the song! How sad it is that the American nation is THAT naive! If only the 60’s had produced less drugs and free-love-liberal minded idiots and few more conservative college professors maybe we’d be in a better future.
