Intermission: a fashion interlude — 9 Comments

  1. After looking at these hats, including that of QE2, I conclude that anyone who believes that the differences between males and females are limited to anatomical features should be sentenced to spend the next month convincing males to wear such attire.

  2. Good Lord!

Have the royal houses of Europe been secretly conducting a centuries-long breeding project to rid themselves of anything resembling fashion sense?

  3. I feel absolutely superior to the Windsor family, in my little black cloche!

  4. fascinating…

actually, the hats are supposed to be garish and grab attention.. thats why they are called facinations.

by the way… americans have/had a similar thing..

but in this case, its the easter season… in ny, when the easter parade happens, you can find lots of women wearing large garish hats… like they used to do.

the sad part is that with feminism, women dont really do these feminine fun things as they did. oh, the wealthy do, since they dont drink the poision they give us, but other than that… we lost all that refinement and uplifting everything..

so i guess its nice to see the hats, and people dressed up, and old cultureal things like this. though its a meloncoly kind of thing… since it will all be erased when things change as they are heading and have been heading for 40 years with nary a deviation.

  5. My reaction – as one most certainly *not* associated with fashion or even knowing British royalty (being a mostly hillbilly southern male – I grew up and live in the mountains of East Tennessee) is as follows:

First female in red – hat is amusing and gets attention – cover up your chest. If you had larger breasts then maybe, as is I think you are wanting to show off cleavage yet realize you don’t have it so try and focus elsewhere. I comes off as what I would call “whorish” – probably not the look you were going for.

Next the girl in blue – you look quite nice. I would take you any place around here and be happy. Yea the hat is a bit large but it fits with your body/face and clothes. I’ll see WAY worse and few better – I’ll take you in a heart beat even were you a poor Sheppard’s daughter. The whole thing mostly works and as far as fashion goes it is quite nice.

Girl in black – well make that hat be one that actually looks like it isn’t glued to the side of your head and it would be nice also (IMO it isn’t the hat that sucks – it’s the position). As is I wonder how you will get the glue out of your hair and why I would want to bother. I assume there is a strap someplace but it still looks glued.

Next up – Rose Woman. I can’t really say – may look nice may not. From this angle too rosy but since I’m not 15 foot tall I mostly care about what you look like from ground level. Bad picture and unknown fashion sense.

As said the purple woman is “classic” – it is so for a reason. All the above females (even the one in blue I find quite attractive) should take a cue from this picture. Were I at near that age I would be all over that (however, at 33 I find it elegant and what I want to be married too in another 30-40 years). There isn’t a female alive that would look bad in that and many that wear worse (at best the female in blue is almost equal but would still look nicer in this – the rest *really* wasted their money)

“The White Rose woman”, IMO might as well have the butterfly in the next photo or a hat glued to the side of your head. Especially given that you are after the classic purple round hat that is flashy enough to get attention yet classy enough to look nice. While the color you chose is better than the butterfly (yellow with that face? come on – I’m grossly overweight so I avoid stripes – how about you avoid that color too?) the design is WAY worse. At least the butterfly woman would have looked OK had she chose a better color.

Really, there is a reason why “classic looks” are popular for for many years – and in many cases well over a thousand years. They look nice. Maybe that designer thinks he/she will make the next “classic” look but chances are he/she is a hack and people a few years later will think you look crazy. The best are the ones that leave their mark on a classic look (outside the 100% classic hat the closest here is the girl in blue – though the “mark” from that designer tends to be more the hair sticking out and that is the worst part).
