When the MSM spilled the beans on Obama’s VP pick last night, I was thinking that, not only will the PUMAs absolutely hate this, but many young and “progressive” Obama supporters will as well. I’m not just talking about the choice of Biden, but the way the whole text-message thing played out.
Originally, it seemed a juvenile and gimmicky but perhaps effective ploy to appeal to the young who represent many of Obama’s most fervent prospective voters (although the nah-nah-nah-nah-nah quality of Obama’s press-taunting “Wouldn’t you like to know?” wasn’t designed to make the MSM love him more).
But then, why pick someone like Biden who doesn’t fit with the medium? Here’s a great comment that sums up some of the disconnect:
…why use technology that is meant to get the kids all excited to communicate one of the most conventional candidates possible? I feel like I just received an e-mail letting me know my 8-track is available for pick up.
And why make a promise in the first place—that text-message recipients would be the ones to get the word first—that you ought to have known you wouldn’t be able to keep? Even if your campaign didn’t leak the VP choice, the press would get wind of circumstantial evidence such as the Secret Service being dispatched to that person’s house. And if you couldn’t think that sort of thing through ahead of time, maybe there’s something seriously wrong with your judgment.
People don’t like broken promises—even young people on the Left—and Obama has broken quite a few already. We’re used to politicians breaking promises after elections. But it’s not a great idea to break so many before.
[It gets worse. And worse.]

If he’s elected, I hope Obama doesn’t think he can run foreign policy the same way. Government by gimmick might be cute here (or maybe not), but it sure won’t play with the Russians. The man needs a gravitas transplant triple quick.
On that score, according to Mickey Kaus, Biden brings seniority, not gravitas, to the ticket.

More show without substance. Well done neo. Very nicely put. I think I’ll go run a few of your points past an Obama worshiper here and watch their faces shivel into a sour pucker. That always makes my day.

I had to laugh a bit at the comments Neo linked at the end. I probably would be upset at being awaken at 3 am also, but then I never have my cell phone on at that time anyway. What amused me was the liberal (pun intended) use of the “F” word throughout. What is it about libs/leftist that every sentence has to contain that word? Pop on over to DailyKos or Huffington to see what I mean.

Maybe Obama/Biden should put out a play station game and bookbags to enhance their electability.
I apparently missed some really important Americans who’ve deceased of late. Because our inventory of citizens is increasingly leaning toward really hip deadbeats and the proudly retarded.

Limited vocabulary perhaps?

Frankly, when Lester Holt interrupted late Olympics coverage (yeah, I’m an Olympics junkie, especially the Summer games) to make the Biden announcement, have to admit, first my jaw dropped — really couldn’t believe they’d do that since they’ve been so in the tank for Obama — most especially NBC! But then a big grin spread across my face — I couldn’t have been more delighted. A short time later, I fell asleep with visions of — not sugar plums — but disenchanted young Obama acolytes withdrawing their loyalty as easily as they first surrendered it. Lots of them. Lots and lots and lots of them.
(and hopefully plenty of other Dems as well; can they say political sellout?”)
And by the way, I’m not so sure it was panic that caused the Obama team to decide to send announcement at 3:00 AM. They like to think of themselves as so very hip, cool, and clever. And I tend to think the 3:00 AM phone call ad was the catalyst for what turned out to be not quite as funny and clever, and surely not appreciated, as intended.

“What is it about libs/leftist that every sentence has to contain that word?”
Ive noticed that as well. Very foul and angry people. They’re the type of people you have as co-workers who are always trying to get you into trouble because they think your getting away with something they’re unable to get away with.
I heard there is an Ohio democrat who is claiming that Obama is an illegitimate candidate on the grounds that Obama’s citizenship is fraudulent. This is a democrat! Must be a Hillary supporter.
It’s an all or nothing world to the left, and that includes each other.

I understand the F word as a continuation of the sixties emphasis on liberation from convention combined with the notion that passionate feeling is a higher standard than rational thought.

Anybody who signed up for it also deserves the B.O. bait and switch agenda which this “incident” portends; The choice of Joe Blow for V.P well exemplifies what is coming from a B.O. administration. If he’s elected, by the time B.O. is finished, he will burn everybody he used to rise to power, perhaps less violently, but none the less not unlike like his namesake Saddam, and much like many, if not most left-wing demagogues in history.

When they aren’t sending text messages at 3am, they’re making fund-raising phone calls at 1 pm. Do Democrats just assume that anyone that would want to vote for them is an unemployed loser or something? Not that that wouldn’t be valid, mind you, but…

McCain should do a “Who do you want answering crucial 3am text messages in the White House” ad.

Big thing it will do is put all the cell-phone owners that signed up for this on a Democrat call list.
It is going to be the gift that keeps on giving.

The 3:30 AM My Guy Biden text message to the Obama myrmidons sent a very clear message: you’re a pack of naive little saps. They can expect to be rolled and hustled again but that’s OK because they have an unlimited supply of ‘tude and f-bombs.

With progressive idiotization of public education, it makes sense to rise age requirement for voting rights up to 21 years at least.
