Here’s to the full length down jacket

It has been so cold, snowy, and blustery these last couple of days that I’ve resorted to wearing a garment I only reserve for the most trying of times, weatherwise: my full-length down coat, a Michelin-like affair that encases me in puffiness from neck to knees, and it makes it harder to get into the car and out again.

But oh, is that thing warm and toasty. Everyone in northern climes should have one. Fashion? What’s that?

Funny you should mention that, Neo. For the really cold days, I’ve got what I call my “Colonel Klink” coat, an ankle-length Swiss Army surplus double-breasted greatcoat that’s basically a heavy wool blanket in the shape of a coat. Warm, but I feel like I should be wagging my finger and whining “Hooooggannnnn!”

I suspect that you carry off the look with as much chic as possible under the circumstances since you are slim.

On my list for the trip to Quebec:
    5. dig out down coat and sheerling boots…

Isn’t it fascinating that we have yet to invent something as light and warm as down? Nature knows her business.

    Now, fur anyone?

A comment on Neo’s travel travail above. We feel so fortunate to have crossed the country and arriving only two hours late–although I did more than my share of fuming.
