His name is Inigo Montoya—prepare to watch — 19 Comments

  1. One of my favorite movies. I purchased a copy years ago and view it once a year complete with popcorn. I do the same with “Patton” and “Undercover Blues”.

  2. Of course the chatty duel is awesome for the performances. But let’s not forget that the swordplay is awesome due to the choreography of Bob Anderson, who worked with Errol Flynn; wore the Darth Vader costume for the light saber duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi in “Star Wars;” trained the cast of “Lord of the Rings” including, famously, Viggo Mortensen when he was brought into the cast after shooting had already started; and also did the sword choreography for the “Pirates of the Carribean” movies.

Thank you, Mr. Anderson, for many decades of sword thrills at the movies!

  3. One of our favorite catch-phrases is “I do not think that word means what you think it means,” gracias a Inigo Montoya.

It’s amazing how many things you can apply it to. Like President Obama’s “taking responsibility” for the AIG mess. Or his much-vaunted campaign promise to engage in true “bipartisanship” in Washington.

No indeed, I do not think those words mean what he thinks they mean.

  4. Great Movie. Read the book first and the movie actually lived up to the book (a rare thing). Great soundtrack by Mark Knopfler as well – and the title song (Stroybook Love I think) is a bit of perfection.

  5. Ok, I’m a guy but I gotta admit I like the movie too…lol.

The exchange between the pirate and the sicilian regarding which goblet contains the poison is priceless!

  6. Scottie: It’s ok if you’re a boy and like the movie. After all it does have:

“Fencing. Fighting. Torture. Revenge. Giants. Monsters. Chases. Escapes. True love. Miracles.”

  7. Although, wait — since we don’t want anyone to ever think we do anything even somewhat, a little bit, close to torture, I don’t know if we can send Wesley down to the Pit of Dispair anymore. Damnit.

  8. I love The Princess Bride

Billy K. as Max is hilarious.

And Christopher Guest’s villian is a definite and effective casting-against-type…

    😉

    Jamie Irons

  9. The fact that there were, at this writing, eleven comments, all of them positive, with each writer liking something different testifies to the vigor of the writing and the agility of the acting. And

    My name is Inigo Montoya….

  10. I do not envy you the headache you will have when you wake up. But dream of large women.

  11. “I’ll summon the Brute Squad.”
    “I’m on the Brute Squad.”
    “You are the Brute Squad!”

  12. The ultimate in Geekware is a black T shirt with a screen printed name badge “Hello I’m…. Inigo montoya you killed my father, prepare to die”

I’m getting one for my 16 year old nephew who’s a fencer.

  13. For those of you interested, I just happened to notice that the movie is coming on tonight (Friday) at 9 pm Eastern time on Bravo. It might be a little bit of fluff, but it’s a very entertaining little bit of fluff – and has some great lines.

Also, RIP Andre the Giant. The Brute Squad is at rest.

  14. This movie is the only thing I’ve seen *all* geeks agree on– only one hadn’t seen it, and once he was tackled and forced to watch…he loved it, too.

  15. There’s a boot store up near my folk’s place that has a boot Andre ordered– it had to be returned because it was too small.

My brilliant mother looked at it, and informed us that the “Princess Buttercup” giant had ordered it. Three very awe-struck children resulted. ^.^

  16. Love this movie so much…those clips really bring back memories! Can’t wait to get it on Blu-Ray!
