About Me
Previously a lifelong Democrat, born in New York and living in New England, surrounded by liberals on all sides, I've found myself slowly but surely leaving the fold and becoming that dread thing: a neocon.

I currently have a job at an acceptable wage. Because I made my bad investments pre 2000, the current downturn hasn’t affected me much. You can’t squeeze blood out of a turnip.
But given my financial state, I predict that my old age will see bankruptcy. I will just try to hold it off as long as I can. At least I own my place outright.

Sweet…. With my impecunious boomer bosses forced to work unto death, I’ll be the junior guy until I’m 70.

I still intend to take early retirement next year and finally acheive my goal of becoming a “burden on society.” Actually, with social security, another small pension from college teaching and perhaps a part-time job, I’ll be fine. I attribute it to a decision I made a couple of years ago to simplify my life. It was amazing how many things I “needed” that I discovered I didn’t really “need.” I have an old car, but it runs fine. I have my books and a library card. I have my music. I have my friends. I have my four grown children and my brothers. I have plenty to eat. I live in a place I like. I am relatively healthy. I like fine wine. I have strong faith. And I have sites like this to visit. I am a very “wealthy” soon-to-be-a-retiree, “wealthy” in the sense that I have, in abundance, all the things that really matter. Simplify, folks, it will work wonders for you.

Well done, Don Janousek. The best things in life are still free.
