Mt. Auburn cemetery on Memorial Day weekend — 10 Comments

  1. What beautiful photos! You are a great photographer. Thanks for sharing this with us on Memorial Day.

  2. How wonderful. I too have warm and wonderful memories of strolling through that cemetery.

  3. I always remember one of Orwell’s examples of a negative change in Anglo-western society was when we started hiding the cemeteries.

  4. Neo, I noticed that our Commander in Chief sent a wreath today to honor black soldiers who died in the civil war. I think that’s fine, and appropriate.

However, he was also requested by none other than the infamous Bill Ayres to refrain from sending a wreath to honor the fallen soldiers of the South as it would perpetuate a symbol of white nationalism and “give encouragement to the modern neo-confederate movement”.

You wouldn’t suppose Mr. Ayres would be trying to connect the modern neoneo-cons with the racism of the old confederacy? …duh.

To his credit Obama sent the wreath honoring the fallen confederates.

  5. Was interested to learn that Robert Nozick and John Rawls were both buried there in 2002. I wonder if they’re neighbors?

  6. For posterity’s sake, Neo, can you fix a few typos. Several times in the post you call it the Mr. Auburn cemetery instead of the Mt. Auburn cemetery.

  7. kcom: that’s funny. I hadn’t seen those typos at all, and of course spell check has no problem whatsoever with Mr. Auburn, either.

    Will fix.
