Padma and Rushdie and Joel and Katie: the way a blogger learns things

I just noticed a not-insignificant uptick in my traffic. It seemed to come from a very odd source: some photos I posted a year ago in connection with an attempt at humorous reflection on a possible link between Billy Joel’s “Piano Man” and Leonard Cohen’s “Closing Time”—and the further connection between Joel and Salman Rushdie (well, you have to read the post to understand—and maybe even then it won’t be all that clear).

Hardly a hot topic right now (or ever), one would think. My post featured several remarkable resemblances (at any rate, I saw fit to remark on them, even if no one else did) between couples Rushdie and bombshell fourth wife Padma Lakshmi (from whom he was recently divorced at the time), and Billy and newish wife Katie Lee.

Alas, the resemblances continue. When I visited Google Trends just now to see what might be going on, I had an aha! moment on reading that a great many Google searches are being performed on the recent announcement that Joel and Katie Lee are splitsville.

So Padma, are you listening? Joel’s free!

I still haven’t gotten the lady a car. And I’ve decided it won’t be new (if at all). She wants new.

    We’ll see how that goes….

Although I am thrice divorced, I’m not bitter…maybe because I’ve never been “burned” financially, but not for a lack of trying by various former spouses. In fact, I may well get married again, just not anytime soon… ;-)

In both cases, beautiful women transgressed the species boundary. They should be drug-tested.
