Obama’s health care reform press conference — 45 Comments

  1. Mark Levin is carrying it on his show with his running commentary, but I can still barely stand listening to Obama. His voice sets my teeth on edge.

  2. At one point Obama mentioned that he had inherited a budget deficit and that he had not been able to reduce it as much as he wanted.

    WTF?

  3. I worry that Obama is being underestimated. Know your enemy. In this news conference he is proving to be very good at fielding questions — no teleprompter in sight. Stupid? No one who speaks this well off the cuff is stupid. We’ve never had a President that was this fluent. It’s all crap but it is beautiful crap and the McArdles and Althouses will be eagerly jumping into the bear cage.

  4. Not a chance: My little kid can’t watch cartoons on a broken TV He likes to watch cartoons….

  5. At age 70 I am so reassured that I will get the little red pill and death counseling. I guess it’s okay since the AARP said it was.

  6. He tried to claim they had reduced the projected deficit over the next x number of years — not only do I think he was lying, he seemed to be getting “deficit” and “debt” mixed up. I see debt as the sum of all deficits.

  7. I’m not underestimating him. The man is pure evil. So much so that most normal Americans can’t even conceive of the true depth of his evil.

A military coup is absolutely our best hope now, and the sooner the better.

  8. No one makes it to the president being stupid – the left thought that about Bush and he ran rings around them for eight years because of it.

Just as Bush allowed certain deficiencies he had (say he had strategeries) to be pronounced to set the bar low so does Obama.

If he had intended to give the speech without it and it fails then he usually falls to pieces, for true random questions he *may* fall to pieces, for semi-random ones that he can prepare for then he is just as smooth without it. Indeed, so many talk about his gaffes without it that when he is in a situation where he can do so he flaunts it nor will he allow himself to be where he does bad if at all possible.

Plus the bar is set so low for him off the tele that anything is a success. Palin did better than she really did during her speeches for the same reason – she was expected to stutter, be afraid, and be Jethro from Beverly Hillbillies.

Expect support from those on the line to go up for a short period of time, those against it to not change, and since it is a bag of lies as the people he swayed realize it (and many will) they will *really* dislike him. He believes in what he is doing enough he thinks it will work out in the end (the ends justifies the lies – once people see the *real* thing in action they will forget all about it), but see the “stimulus bill” for how well that is going to work too.

  9. He said the projected 10-year deficit before he took office would have been $1.2 trillion higher than the one he has foisted on the American people.

He said doctors would do better work if we remove the profit motive.

He told us at least three times that he is the President, the White House is his house, and that he has better health care than anybody on earth, because a doctor follows him around 24/7, because, you know, he’s the president.

Delusional, state of denial, narcisistic. In other words, more of the same.

  10. It is possible that rolling in a field of Bull Nettle plants garnished with Poison Ivy, covered with Fire Ants and hounded by Horse Flies with would be less painful than how this is going to turn out…..

  11. Here, let me take out that extra “with”:

It is possible that rolling in a field of Bull Nettle plants garnished with Poison Ivy, covered with Fire Ants and hounded by Horse Flies would be less painful than how this is going to turn out…..

  12. I am with Jim here. If you are a senior citizen or close to being a senior citizen government run healthcare will kill you because they will find a way to deny you healthcare for any reason. You will be lucky to get that little red pill that Jim talks about.
AARP likes this because they stand to make large sums of money on the backs of senior citizens. AARP has never, NEVER, had the interests of senior citizens in mind.

  13. Can anyone tell me what the purpose of all of this is? I was told the objectives were a) cut costs b) cover all uninsured.

And yet I keep reading reports all over the place that say the proposed bill will accomplich neither of these. Has the bill even been finished yet?

So, what is the goal? Control of peoples’ lives?

  14. Can’t watch him. Can’t listen to him. Can’t even think about him. Well, I WISH I couldn’t think about him.

  15. MikeLL Says:

“So, what is the goal? Control of peoples’ lives?”

Bingo. It is always the real goal.

  16. Why does he have to keep saying it isn’t about him? Did anyone say it was? Did Jim DeMint say that? I can’t remember. Or is it NPD that is causing him to say that? Seems to me the latter. F

  17. Best description, from MSNBC no less:

It was like watching a three-card Monte game while simultaneously listening to a lawyer read from the Federal Register.

  19. All budget savings are based on this old joke.

The boy ran into the house and said exitedly, “Dad, I saved a dollar today by running home behind the bus.” The gruff father gave him the back of his hand. “Stupid child, you could have saved five dollars by running home behind a cab.”

  20. Questions about the greedy doctor and the tonsillectomy. Wouldn’t the kid’s primary care physician be a pediatrician or GP? And wouldn’t the doctor who made a fortune yanking tonsils be a surgeon? Just asking. Didn’t Mrs BO work in a hospital?

  21. Grackle wrote, “I worry that Obama is being underestimated

I feel like there are those of us who eat/breathe politics and then the rest of the population and I WONDER…. what does the rest of the population think about the press conference.

For the life of me I have no idea.

    Maybe they won’t watch anyway.

    But if they did:
    1) Were they convinced of anything without the specifics – hearing only vague platitudes about what he wants?
    2) Did they see someboy who is at odds with reality in any way?
    3) Did he offend with the continuous status quo comments or did that argument resonate with that set of people?

  22. I WONDER…. what does the rest of the population think about the press conference.

For the life of me I have no idea.

I know: I have an ‘average guy’ emulator:

“WTF? Why is he on again? What? I like my doctor, he seems like a decent guy… Who are you gonna trust anyhow? Bill Gates got arrested breaking into his own house by racist cops? WTF? Dumbass…” Next channel.

  23. To be clear. It is possible that both people raised their voice – not just Gates.

It is possible that some ‘protocol’ was missed and the monday morning quarterbacks may be able to point out some wrong doing.

But for the President to be so off the fence saying, “acted stupidly” – begs the question: What information does ∅bama have that we don’t?

  24. I was struck by the thought that Obama was looking in the direction of but past the TV camera and his head did not go from left to right and back, from one teleprompter to another. So, I assumed that a large TV or teleprompter was placed in the rear of the room. Am I wrong?

By the way, who writes the stuff Obama reads off the teleprompters? We assume that it is Obama but I think his skill is in the reading not the writing. Is Axelrod behind the curtain?

  25. Part way through looking at the video of Obama’s press conference last night, and it is all a tissue of lies, half-truths, deliberate mischaracterizations and straw man arguments. One thing that struck me was Obama’s stating that “…if we do not act, 14,000 people in the U.S. will continue to lose their health care coverage each day.”

Let’s just parse this one statistic a little, a la Bill Clinton’s “is.”

Just what exactly is the definition of “losing your health care coverage”? Does this mean you lose it for good, or does this mean you are losing it temporarily as, for instance, when you are in the process of changing jobs or changing from one health care provider/plan to another? I ask this question because I am aware that the key statistic used to justify this massive government takeover of our health care system–that “45 million Americans have no health insurance” is a very artfully constructed and worded claim that falls apart upon inspection.

This total number of 45 million or so is taken from a recent Census bureau survey of health care coverage for individuals in the U.S. (http://tinyurl.com/6mh9yn).

However, if you look at who makes up this total you find that 12 million and perhaps up to 20 million of those without health insurance are illegal aliens and not Americans at all–do we want to pay for their coverage? The bills under consideration force us to pay for their care.

The next major group that contributes many millions of people to the total is composed of healthy young people who have made the decision not to buy health insurance, because they are healthy right now and have other priorities. Then, there are millions of older Americans who, though able to pay, have decided–for whatever reason–that they do not want health care coverage either. Under the “health care reform” bills under consideration these people–young and old alike–would be forced to buy health insurance they obviously don’t want to under threat of a $1,000 penalty each year for their audacity in not doing what the federal government orders them to do “for their own good” and “to pay their fair share.”

Finally, there are millions of Americans who are between jobs or in the process of changing from one health care plan or carrier to another and, thus, in the interim technically “do not have health care coverage”; I presume Obama is counting them among his 14,000. So, when you subtract all those who are not Americans and who are not entitled to health care because they are illegal aliens, subtract both young and old who chose not to have health care coverage, and subtract those who are only technically “without health care coverage” the total drops from 45 million to about 10 million; still not great, but certainly not a large enough figure to justify such a massive, extraordinarily disruptive and expensive federal takeover.

Finally, just think about this number a little–14,000/day. At this rate this must mean that 420,000 people/month lose their health care coverage, and that over the course of a year 5,040,000 people lose their coverage, and over the course of a decade over 60 million people will have “lost their health care coverage.” Does this seem like a plausible statistic to you?

Obama is truly “the father of lies.”

  26. I just heard on the Savage show that he has reasons to believe that he is not the only US talkshowhost that’s on the UK list of banned people. Several others may also be on the list, but not even know it. This was based on information his lawyers got from the UK government.
When this appears to be true it proves how increasingly totalitarian the UK and Europe have become. But it also would be a very bad token for the future of free speech ( especially anti-Obamaspeech) in the US.

  27. Sorry, the phrase should have been—over the course of a decade over 50 million people will have “lost their health care coverage.”

  28. I imagine it’s true that 14,000 Americans lose their health insurance everyday, given the current rate of unemployment.

I imagine it’s also true that that number is not netted against those who regain their health insurance as they become employed again or otherwise obtain insurance.

I don’t remember any president, not Clinton, not Nixon, not anyone, who was as obviously dishonest as Obama.

  29. 14,000 losing their coverage every day.

    45 million uninsured.

    So what?

I’ve recently been introduced to “affordable” numbers like $787 billion and $1 trillion.

45 million? Bah, not even a handful.

  30. I predict:

There will be statistics published showing the officer’s rate of pulling over African American’s or white drivers….

  31. Rube Goldberg call your office.

For a chart that attempts to diagram the structure of the gigantic, mind-boggling, nightmare government health care bureaucracy that the Democrat’s “health care reform” bill is trying to impose on us all see the chart here (http://docs.house.gov/gopleader/House-Democrats-Health-Plan.pdf) and pass it on, since the Democratic leadership in Congress–who control the machinery of Congress, including the mailing facilities– is prohibiting Republican opponents of the Democrat’s health care bill from sending this chart out as a mailing to their constituents.
