Joe Lieberman on the public option

Joe Lieberman really does seem to warrant the description “independent.” Well worth reading.

And to think that he had been considered enough of a mainstream Democrat to run as Gore’s Veep in 2000. Like someone else we know, I imagine Liberman would say that he didn’t change: the party did.

I could be considered a strong conservative, but if Joe Lieberman had run for President instead of Algore, I would have voted for him in a heartbeat. As best as I can tell, he is one of the very few principled politicians left today. I don’t always agree with the principle but know that given evidence that it is wrong, he will think about it and possibly change. The greatest of rarities–an honest politician.

I don’t always agree with Lieberman’s positions either, but–again like someone else we know who didn’t change–even when you disagree with him, you always know where he stands, and why.

“But never in the history of America . . . have we tried to keep one industry honest by having government go into that business to compete with the industry.”

Just so! It’s nothing but a camel’s nose under the tent. The forerunner of Universal healthcare. Pray for Joe to stand fast.

That phrase reminds New Englanders of a certain vintage of Louise Day Hicks. (I was born and raised in NE, but left it years ago.) I wager that Neo has heard of it, even with her NYC childhood.

About Me

Previously a lifelong Democrat, born in New York and living in New England, surrounded by liberals on all sides, I've found myself slowly but surely leaving the fold and becoming that dread thing: a neocon.
