Still working on that comments preview function — 11 Comments

  1. One other option to consider is an edit function for the poster after the fact. I suspect that most desire a preview option to do a quick scan in case of spelling errors.
Here is a google result. About half way down the page is a edit plug-in ( Edit Comments XT — Lets commentators edit their own comments. ). I have no idea if it works or not as I have no clue as to how the “sausage” is made for blogs, I simply enjoy reading it 😉

  2. If you are unable to work in a preview option, then just declare:

Actually, I’m encouraging you to try to Get It Right The First Time!.

Consider it as “Evolution in action“.
    (~Niven & Pournelle)

    🙂

  3. Neo, I agree with Paul_In_Houseton. Those of us who alwyas get our grammer and speling right the furst time don’t need a prevue pain. But thanks for the effort.

  4. Thanks, Neo. The issue for me is not so much spelling but making sure that my HTML tags are OK. Example: insure that only the parts I want in boldface are are actually in boldface. Links, also.

Which reminds me of what a family friend, then in her sixties, said about the computer over a quarter century ago. ” The computer doesn’t do what I want it to do. It does what I tell it do do.”

  5. IMHO, fewer and fewer blogs have the preview capability than before, which is a regression rather than a progression.

  6. Wow. Weird. Works fine for me. Could be the rev. level of WP you’re on.

I just updated to a newer revision level and the strikeout feature suddenly stopped working.

It was pretty humorous because I had posted something after a celebration and the post showed it. Rather than just fix it I thought it would be funny to do strikeouts followed by the corrections. It looked fine on the screen but luckily I looked at it after updating and all the words were there but the strikeout lines were gone and then it looked REALLY deranged.

  7. I agree with Mike. I love the edit function. For some reason having to do with personal limitations, I seldom spot my errors before I hit the enter button. Moments later they leap out and grab me by the throat.

  8. I really don’t see the for a preview function, nor do I reely think thier neads to be a speling funchsion either.

  9. How about a “Are you really really sure you want to present those choice words to the world?” button.

  10. But I always like the surprise when one of my pithy, well reasoned comments goes up with misspellings and bonehead punctuation errors.
