And the moral of the story is: don’t confide in Carla Bruni

Did Michelle Obama really tell Carla Bruni that being First Lady is hell, and that she can’t stand it?

Who knows? It makes a big splash, though, and that’s what Bruni is all about.

But just in case it’s true, I’ve got some advice for Michelle—the lovely French First Lady with the colorful past is not exactly the girlfriend I’d be confiding in:

Comparing herself to other leaders’ wives, Miss Bruni says: ‘I’m so different. I was a model. I sing, and I want to continue to sing. And on top of that you expect me to be subtle?’ And she admits: ‘I am a femme fatale, my dear.’

Two words about Michelle, “Ugly Wanda.”

It would serve us right if she just up and left. And took her husband with her. Boy, would that teach us a lesson!

Mother Theresa comes to mind. :)

  4. Gringo Says:

Michelle learned the hard way that a friendly ally is not a friend.

  5. SteveH Says:

Would be funny to find out fashionista Carla Bruni is the one who advised Michele that big honkin belt buckles would make her hips being up near her shoulders less noticable.

‘I am a femme fatale, my dear.’

    And conquered by a 5’5″ Frenchman…

“Well it’s been hell for us too, honey.” – American voters.

  8. Daniel in Brookline Says:

…and now we hear that Ms. Bruni is distancing herself from the book, and effectively denying that the First Lady said any such thing. Mrs. Obama is denying it too.

(Okay, who’s the intrepid White House employee who will produce the audiotape of her saying it?)

In all seriousness — this could well be nothing more than malicious gossip. We shouldn’t take it seriously just because it fits our image of what we think Mrs. Obama would say.

I’m content to wait and see if this plays out. I have plenty of reasons to dislike Mrs. Obama without this. (In particular, she demands respect from the American people, which she clearly doesn’t reciprocate.)

Aggie, yes, French women seem to have abnormally high self-esteem for some reason. And Carla Bruni isn’t even that pretty.

The glitterati at each others’ throats…

    Good times, good times.

  11. Tom Says:

Jes’ waitaminnit. Who wrote the durn book?

I’m of two minds: My Belle loves being 1st in line for everything, all the bowing(Hussein exempted) and scraping; versus the constraints placed on her by her minders. She has the lower class persona (AKA ‘poor breeding’ 60 yrs ago) of wanting to mouth off any ol’ time she feels like it.

  12. Charles Says:

Here’s the “problem.” This is second-hand gossip – only those involved really know if it is true.

If this were said about either Laura or Barbara Bush I think many would outright dismiss it; as those two were both very classy ladies who if they ever thought such, certainly wouldn’t say it.

But, this is Michelle Obama. She has a history of saying things that, to be polite about it, “come across the wrong way.” That history makes this supposed comment believable.

We will also have to wait a couple of days to see how Mr. Obama weighs in on this subject – will he come to the aid of his wife’s “honor”? Will he start calling Carla Bruni names? Perhaps, he will return some French gifts.

  13. Randy Says:

Gosh, just when she became proud to be an American a sneaky little Frenchy spills the beans!

  14. FenelonSpoke Says:

I can’t take seriously any woman who says, “I am a femme fatale.” As much as I don’t care for MO’s anti Americanism, if Carla Bruni really did repeat what Michelle Obama said it was catty. I don’t mind if MO gets in hot water, however. There is certainly is no love lost between Sarkozy and Obama, so the timing may not be coincidental.

  15. Beverly Says:

As my aunt remarked, “Mrs. O always looks like she’s walkin’ over plowed ground.”

    Acts trashy, too.

  16. Dennis Says:

Charles has got it. Given Michele’s propensities it is entirely in the realm of possibilities. Whereas most other First Ladies knew how to be LADIES, Michele seems at times not to have any clue that she represents us. It isn’t about her.
One only has to look at how Obama and his wife treat the White House, dress, et al to see demonstrated people who have NO respect for this country, its people and its traditions.
Suffice it to say for something like this to gain credence the people involved have to have done things that give it credence.

  17. DirtyJobsGUy Says:

Remember that the Obamas stiffed the Sarkozies invite to a private dinner in Paris for their own date night out. Not very diplomatic and for Carla clearly an insult.

  18. John Says:

At least she didn’t confide with Lady Gaga. :)

“If this were said about either Laura or Barbara Bush I think many would outright dismiss it; as those two were both very classy ladies who if they ever thought such, certainly wouldn’t say it.”

I seem to remember Bar Bush saying something relatively derogatory about Geraldine Ferraro in 1984 who was running for the vice presidency against GHW Bush, calling her something that “rhymes with witch” and noting that she couldn’t say it on television.

    A better moral would be
    dont trust socialists…
that would cover her, her husband and a whole bunch

Heh heh heh. Deliciously French. The first time in awhile I saw some good news from France. Heh heh.

  22. Tatyana Says:

Michelle, with all her “lawyer”‘s training (necessarily in quotes) is such a socially awkward crow in peacock feathers…
    Carla did not disappoint. Bravo!

PS. I said it before, but looking at those pictures again – gee, what a shame to see a flower-bed dressed maid next to a deliciously-pearl-gray outfit worn by a lady – and pretending to be equal!

  23. Tatyana Says:

IRA Darth Aggie: look up how tall was Napoleon.

A hint: it’s not the height that counts.

  24. Artfldgr Says:

Tatyana… but it seems on the world stage of politics hair color does..napoleon, alexander the great, lenin, founding fathers, royals of europe, had red hair.. :)

  25. Helen Says:

Hmm. No femme fatale ever says that she is that. if La Belle Carla has to tell people then she does not really think that she is that.
