…and sacrifice still.
“Yesterday, December 7, 1941 – a date which will live in infamy – The United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan…As Commander-in-Chief of the Army and Navy, I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense…With confidence in our armed forces – with the unbounded determination of our people – we will gain the inevitable triumph – so help us God.”
President F.D. Roosevelt – 8th December 1941

The commenter Walt at Belmont club has a nice poem about the resurrected battleships of Pearl Harbor at the Battle of Surigao Strait nearly three years later.

Had an insurance client whose health insurance expired when he hit sixty-five. The company thought he should go on Medicare and get a Medigap policy. It’s the way it works.
He said, well, I’m only sixty-four. Lied about his age on Dec 8. He had to keep that fake age to stay consistent on his paperwork for the rest of his life.
I called the company about it. They had a procedure. Apparently there was a lot of that going around.
He apologized to me for the trouble.
I had to look out the window for some time after that.
