About Me
Previously a lifelong Democrat, born in New York and living in New England, surrounded by liberals on all sides, I've found myself slowly but surely leaving the fold and becoming that dread thing: a neocon.

This is the America worth fighting and saving for.
And lets not forget Judge John Roll. He doesn’t seem to be getting any remembrance.

Thanks Neo. The media gets so wrapped up with their chosen narrative that ordinary folk are often forgotten. I am glad I had the opportunity to read this.
I am not one of those modern guys who shows his emotions to the world, but I blinked a few times and read through a slight mist toward the end.
I hope that she focuses on the love, and the sacrifice lovingly made; and doe not feel guilt or remorse.

Curtis: I’ve also noticed little about Giffords’s aide Gabe Zimmerman. I know he was 30 and he was engaged, but that’s about it. That’s a very painful and tragic story, as well.

That was great. That should have been the dominant narrative of the reporting. There should have been lots of articles like that. It’s the real story. But, as in so many other cases over the last several years, the mainstream media has utterly failed us again. By pushing their agenda, instead of giving us real news, we’re all the worse off for it. If it were possible, I have no doubt they would have been voted out of office along with the arrogant Democrats (or much earlier).
Not to end on that note, I’d like to bring things back to Mr. Stoddard and all those who showed bravery that day. Hats off to them. When the moment of truth came, they were up to the task.

Like Kcom indicated, a responsible and America loving media would have made stories about the heroes and the victims the focus.
Frankly, I think the splattering of Loughner’s mad mugshot on nearly every website and TV show is also repugnant and perpetrates the survivors all over again.

Thanks for this, Neo. We owe Mr. Stoddard for showing us what ordinary people can be. RIP.

When a man loves a woman…..as this man surely loved his. I pray she will know how very blessed she is to have been so greatly loved.
January 12th, 2011 at 7:36 pm
Yes, it is the courage and love that are shown by our fellow Americans that should be a big part of the story.
Dorwin Stoddard, we salute you and pray that your wife will find comfort in knowing how much you loved her.

I just read the text of Obama’s speech from tonight’s service in Tucson. Anybody who’s been reading the comments here for a while knows that I am not exactly his biggest fan. The cynic in me knows that others wrote those words for him, recognizes how carefully they were chosen for the right political impact, and wonders how much of it truly came from his heart. All the same, they were precisely the words that needed to be spoken, and precisely the words the country needed to hear. If the man who has been President for the past two years had borne any resemblance to the man depicted in the words he spoke tonight — well, things would be profoundly different in this country tonight.

Wow. What a story.
We do indeed have heroes in our midst. It’s encouraging and humbling.
And yes, I agree, it ought to be their names and faces splashed across the news, not the ugly face of a cold-blooded murderer.
I lived in Israel for a number of years. And I remember how, in response to a deadly terror attack, the victims’ faces would be on the front page of the newspaper — every newspaper. Details of the murderer were below the fold. Similarly, if a suicide terrorist killed four victims along with himself, the newspapers reported it as four deaths. The death of the terrorist didn’t count.
respectfully,
Daniel in Brookline
