    I love ‘em too.

Here’s the first one I ever saw and still a favorite:

Well, McNalley’s late so I can’t refuse a chance to pen a line on St Paddy Day. I think about how Catholic the Irish are–and a superstitious Catholic too. And if they’re not Catholic, then they’re liberal and pro-labor. But they’ve produced a notable lot of poets and authors and they’re usually pretty competent in anything they do. My grandfather was pure Irish; that and if I did dance, it would be that foot dance. There’s that stubborness too, and a rebel yell in the face of death, that’s Irish.

    Neo,

As a former South-Sider, I sent this around to my old pals, the names of whom would make you think you’re reading the credits of a Barry Fitzgerald movie.

    Thanks.

I’m Irish, both sides of the family. No longer Catholic, not union, and not a democrat. But the Banshees won’t leave me alone.

Thanks Neo. The Sneaky Steppers: I love it! Every time I see one of these it makes me want to go and hang out in a railway station, hoping for a flash mob. Well, almost!

@Curtis — Dump your assumptions in the trash bin. I know many who are ex-Catholic and very libertarian; not lib, not pro-labor. Including meself.

  13. Curtis Says:

    I love that answer, br549.

Donnie Gall, if you might provide some stats? I was kind of thinking JFK and fairly recent history. Perhaps the new crop is more diverse. There’s also got to be quite a difference between Ireland Irish and American Irish. But your answer, “I know many,” commits the first error of argument by assuming anecdotal evidence corresponds to the general picture.

About Me

Previously a lifelong Democrat, born in New York and living in New England, surrounded by liberals on all sides, I've found myself slowly but surely leaving the fold and becoming that dread thing: a neocon.
