Dancing With the Stars: still a kid

Those of you who are not into frivolity, skip this one. But as for me, I welcome the chance to watch Ralph Macchio, the long-ago “Karate Kid,” do a credible jive on “Dancing With the Stars.”

He’s fun to watch. And the most amazing, astounding thing is that he still looks like a kid despite his age (which I which reveal after the clip—no peeking!):

Macchio will turn fifty this November 4th.

Ahhh yes, not looking your age. I enjoyed that for quite awhile, about 37 years since I turned 18. Of course, my body feels like it’s 90.

  2. Promethea Says:

    Fifty is the new thirty-five!

  3. Foxfier Says:

*laughs* Since you mentioned his age, I thought about it while watching the clip, something like: “Alright, Karate Kid was in the early eighties or late seventies, call him twenty because of the child labor laws, eighties-ninties-oughts, he’s forty or fifty– dang! He DOES look great!”

That’s worse than Shatner being 80…..

  4. Hong Says:

You’ve made me feel old. Curses!

  5. temporarilyqualmless Says:

A testament to good genes and conditioning. Plus put us with a young lithe babe and we’ll move mountains…

  6. Kurt Says:

Wow, when I saw that last night, I figured to have teenagers, he may have been in his early 40′s. I never would have guessed his real age.

  7. Roy Lofquist Says:

    Reminded me of this:

Hmmm. . . are you sure that isn’t Rachel Maddow?

My Cousin Vinnie was 1990 — 20+ years ago.

I’m sure he had a hairdresser take care of any grey, and who knows, a little botox and he looks 15+ years younger… and in Hollywood, yeah, the guys do it sometimes, too.

  10. Richard Aubrey Says:

I find it interesting how the film industry can pick kids who will remain looking good through the years. See Emma Watson in Harry Potter. Rupert Grint is looking more like the ex-SAS bodyguard, but with a guy you can manage that.
Dana…whatshername in Different Strokes was the same. Good looking little kid to hot young woman.
They don’t get fat, don’t get noses out of proportion, don’t get underslung jaws, don’t get legs and torso out of proportion, all the things that happen to many kids.
    Wonder how they do it.

  11. Marine's Mom Says:

He must’ve been a lot older than his character in Karate Kid. Can’t believe he’s just a bit younger than me. It says on Wikipedia that he’s been dancing since he was three, so that explains the twinkle toes.

  12. Daniel in Brookline Says:

He danced in Karate Kid II, as I recall (a minute or so of ballroom dancing). I’m no expert, but it seemed to me that he knew what he was doing.

According to, Ralph Macchio was 22 when the first movie was filmed. Wow.

  13. texexec Says:

Guess I like frivolous things, but I enjoy “Dancing with the Stars” and this guy is either gonna win or at least be in the final three.

That stocky blonde guy and the NFL MVP are good too. This looks like the Year of the Male.
