If the GOP was really surprised by the tone of Obama’s attack… — 64 Comments

  1. Judging by Mr. Ryan’s comments afterwards, I have hope that it was a learning experience for him, and hopefully others.

  2. Neo:

Did you really use any term involving fight and Obama in the same sentence?

Obama is very good at giving speeches to try to pacify his base and then going out and stabbing them in the back.

No, Obama is not a trustworthy person. But that just means he’ll backstab either side when it suits him and he can get away with it, and so far the Republicans seem to have his number.

  3. Before it’s all said and done, conservative Americans will be a people of a changed demeanor upon learning there’s no avoiding having to put our boot on liberalism’s throat and twist it.

  4. It is a sign of Obama’s weakness that he gave this speech at all. He was drawn out by Ryan’s plan. The Republicans need to take notice of that, and keep pressing. Stand firm, learn from Scott Walker. People will stand with you IF you show some strength. We all know this needs to get fixed, but if you wimp out, people will shrug their shoulders, go on with their daily lives and HOPE for a real savior to arrive.

Everyone also has to pay close attention to the words – TIE THE PIECES TOGETHER – Obama’s words are designed to further the meme articulated by Lerner. It’s much more than one plot to bring down JP Morgan Chase. Take note of every single instance where you hear the “We’re not broke, there’s plenty of money, it’s just that THEY have it and you need to take it from them…” meme. Obama is doing it, fomenting class warfare as his only means of keeping his job.

    It is disgusting and despicable.

  5. Obama wants to win like thelma and louise…

the whole can go over a cliff but at least they can taste victory till we all hit bottom…

kind of how the guests felt one hour before that big ship hit the iceberg..

    meanwhile…

thanks to the hux’s out there…
    the reasonable..
we are a lot less prepared in our personal lives…

  6. Brad,
i will recommend (again and agian and again), that you read Sergei Nechaev and Mikhail Bakunin “CATECHISM OF A REVOLUTIONIST”

    if your interested about the history around it, here is wiki;
    Catechism of a Revolutionary
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catechism_of_a_Revolutionary

The Revolutionary Catechism or Catechism of a Revolutionary refers to two documents:

    * a manifesto written by a Russian anarchist Mikhail Bakunin in 1865-1866;

    * a manifesto written by Russian revolutionary Sergey Nechayev between April and August 1869.

The first document, better known as The Revolutionary Catechism, is a manifesto of anarchism, opposing religion and the state, advocating the

absolute rejection of every authority including that which sacrifices freedom for the convenience of the state.

The second document, better known as Catechism of a Revolutionary, is an authoritarian manual for the formation of secret societies.

so for 4 years i have been trying to get people to read the leaders of the communist revolutions rules for creating a power group on top, and using people on the bottom, and taking control of a state.

NOW that we are about to find out if we have won or lost… is it time to read their playbook?

i mean really… been telling you that everyone here wondering whats up can read the game and follow along… and no one wants to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

these are the people who removed Czar Nicholas, and created the most feared secret organizations on the planet…

and you dont want to know how or what they do, how they did it, and why the people we are discussing are following them!!!!

we may have no respect for the CIA, NSA, FBI, etc..
but that’s because we listen to the others tell us what to think about ourselves.

No, Obama is not a trustworthy person. – brad

Its publication in the Government Herald in July 1871 as the manifesto of the Narodnaya Rasprava secret society was one of the most dramatic events of Nechayev’s revolutionary life

so what does that mean to Obadiah and you?
well this line from the catechism…

obama is obrechennyi… believes with religious fervor that he is the anointed one… (sound like hitler stalin, lenin, etc?)

The revolutionist is a person doomed. He has no personal interests, no business affairs, no emotions, no attachments, no property, and no name.

Everything in him is wholly absorbed in the single thought and the single passion for revolution.

and it took us all these years to see that this is his mind… no?

don’t worry, the secret societies made sure we would not even believe or be able to think about such after constructing the theory and social idea that conspiracies never exist… (right Richard Milhouse Watergate Nixon? or Bakunin with Lenin? or Ribbentrop with Molotov?)

[see the etymology of conspiracy theory]

Obama betraying his own people the people of the USA, and his friends, and such, as you point out is because he is grazhdanskim poriadkom…

he has broken all cultural bonds and limitations that would prevent him from achieving the goal. like a sociopath, he cares for NOTHING.. as with the ideology of the leaders, there are no morals, there are no ethics, there are no loyalties… [kind of seeing why the new order favors some really nasty brutish people?]

such things are seen the way a sociopath sees normal people… as being weak because of their emotions and such… (but socioaths are not the future, they are the throw back to the past… so your seeing cro magnon remove sapiens sapiens… or if you want to consider the smartest sapiens sapiens sapiens. then they are the main target – as they are the ones who overthrew the lss smart brutish sociopaths for a more social order from farming and life fixed to one place where fighting without emotions is disvavored)

The revolutionist knows that in the very depths of his being, not only in words but also in deeds, he has broken all the bonds which tie him to the civil order and the civilized world with all its laws, moralities, and customs, and with all its generally accepted conventions. He is their implacable enemy, and if he continues to live with them it is only in order to destroy them more speedily.

so not suffering the social limitations we value, anything is possible.. and if he has the AUDACITY to act as such, then its MORE possible as those limited by the social cues cant fathom that someone would really think that trying for a third or fourth time to exterminate the Jews and the smart but nice would work…

why no one wants to read the documents that informed the people who achieved a still standing set of totalitarian states who are about to completely decimate us… is beyond me… there ARE no prizes for being the one with the right answer (actually quite the contrary)…

but there IS a penalty for not getting it right or fast enough… as we are about to find out….

if you think the past few years were not that great

    you aint seen nothing yet!!!!!!!!!!!

just those two parts of the catechism should tell you that no matter how many die, suffer, get killed, or what horrors happen…

    they have no limits…

maybe now that and other things they hint at in speeches and things can be read? i doubt it.

    CATECHISM OF A REVOLUTIONIST
by Sergei Nechaev [and Mikhail Bakunin]

    pages.uoregon.edu/kimball/Nqv.catechism.thm.htm

you have seen the first two
here is three as a teaser
there are 26 such rules in this document

    3. The revolutionist despises all doctrines and refuses to accept the mundane sciences, leaving them for future generations.

He knows only one science: the science of destruction.

For this reason, but only for this reason, he will study mechanics, physics, chemistry, and perhaps medicine.

But all day and all night he studies the vital science of human beings, their characteristics and circumstances, at every possible level of social existence.

The object is perpetually the same: the surest and quickest way of destroying the whole filthy order.

now that we know him more that we did before he achieved his place… read the rest… and realize…

  7. Yeah I’m hoping Ryan’s only pretending to be ‘disappointed’ otherwise I doubt he’s going to have the stomach to fight this bully. It always makes me cringe when Republicans use such milktoast language in their speeches. There should be certain words that should never be spoken by an alpha Republican: Saddened, disappointed, unhelpful… It’s no wonder to me that the ballsy Republicans are the woman. The Republican men, like any good battered wife, are henpecked into submission by their Democrat spouses.

  8. The most radical document of its age, the Catechism outlined the authors’ revolutionary Jacobin program of organisation and discipline, a program that became the backbone of the radical movement in Russia.

The revolutionary is portrayed in the Catechism as an amoral avenging angel, an expendable resource in the service of the revolution, committed to any crime or treachery necessary to effect the downfall of the prevailing order.

and when they say ANY, they mean ANY…

Scholar Michael Allen Gillespie has hailed the Catechism as “a pre-eminent expression of the doctrine of freedom and negation” that arose in the Fichtean notion of the “Absolute I” that had been concealed in Left Hegelianism.

Prominent Black Panther of the 20th century Eldridge Cleaver adopted the Catechism as a “revolutionary bible”, incorporating it into his daily life to the extent that he employed, in his words, “tactics of ruthlessness in my dealings with everyone with whom I came into contact”.

still think that obama and the others are ignorant, or that we are ignorant and too lazy to read and learn the history and the key things.

    after all

THAT IS THE ONLY DEFENSE AGAINST SUCH PEOPLE

my frustration comes from knowing that everyone who doesn’t follow, read, and learn, are leaving themselves defenseless.

    confuses people cant defend themselves.
they are as likely to hurt their own side as another.

The ideas and sentiments in the work had been in part previously aired by Zaichnevsky and Nikolai Ishutin in Russia, and by Carbonari and Young Italy in the West.

you can be sure that Obadiah has read this. and taken it to hart.. who was his mentor? why is Islam the in thing? who was Jamil Abdullah Al-Amin? and why is all rap music homage to his poetry… [hint he was Justice Minister of the Black Panther Party]

    his most famous quote?

“Violence is as American as cherry pie”
[as he knows that the Chevrolet commercial of apple pie and such is a copy of another similar one… ]

And who is holder protecting? the new black panthers, eh? and who have these people been in bed with since the 60s…

and what radical groups are revolting for the new caliphate?

and who is Luqman Ameen Abdullah?
and his ties to Jamil Abdullah Al-Amin?

oh… should i remind everyone as to the TWO things that the weather underground is remembered for? you have the brownstone blown up in ny…

but do you also remember the attempt to rob a brinks truck in nanuet ny as a combined action with the weather undeground and the black liberation army? (BLA like PLA – their friends)

and why did they say they did it? to start a race war, and overthrow the American government…

The 1981 Weather Underground, Black Liberation Army-related Triple Murder in Nyack, NY (nanuet mall)

“On October 20, 1981 — long after the Weather Underground had ceased to exist — former Underground member Kathy Boudin and her soon-to-be husband, David Gilbert, were accomplices in the robbery of a Brinks armored car in Nyack, New York. In the course of that heist, one Brinks guard and two Nyack police officers were murdered. Also involved in the robbery was Judith Clark, who had served a prison term for her participation in the ‘Days of Rage.’ Boudin hired attorney Leonard Weinglass, a law partner of her father, to defend her in the case.

Weinglass arranged for a plea bargain whereby Boudin pled guilty to one count of felony murder and robbery, in exchange for a prison sentence of twenty years to life. She was paroled in 2003, however, over strong opposition from New York State police. Gilbert remains in New York’s Attica State Prison, having refused to bargain.

In 1985, former Weather Underground members Susan Rosenberg (who also was implicated in the Nyack robbery [Brinks truck robbery/murder]) and Linda Evans were apprehended while transporting 740 pounds of explosives which they both acknowledged were slated for use in additional bombings. Rosenberg was sentenced to 58 years in prison, Evans 40; President Bill Clinton pardoned both women in January 2001.”

The revolutionist can have no friendship or attachment, except for those who have proved by their actions that they, like him, are dedicated to revolution. The degree of friendship, devotion and obligation toward such a comrade is determined solely by the degree of his usefulness to the cause of total revolutionary destruction. Catechism

obama being a part of the group from the weather underground, ayers, etc… have ALL proven that they are serious enough to murder innocents..

    so they are trusted…

It is superfluous to speak of solidarity among revolutionists. The whole strength of revolutionary work lies in this.

Comrade-revolutionists [tovarishchi-revoliutsionery] who possess the same revolutionary passion and understanding should, as much as possible, deliberate all important matters together and come to unanimous conclusions.

When the plan is finally decided upon, then the revolutionist must rely solely on himself. In carrying out acts of destruction, each one should act alone, never running to another for advice and assistance, except when these are necessary for the furtherance of the plan.

    10. All comrades should have under them second- or third-degree revolutionists — i.e., comrades who are not completely initiated.

these should be regarded as part of the common revolutionary capital placed at his disposal.

This capital should, of course, be spent as economically as possible in order to derive from it the greatest possible profit.

Willi Mé¼nzenberg’s innocents clubs as i detailed..

    11. When a comrade is in danger and the question arises whether he should be saved or not saved, the decision must not be arrived at on the basis of sentiment, but solely in the interests of the revolutionist cause. Therefore, it is necessary to weigh carefully the usefulness of the comrade against the expenditure of revolutionary forces necessary to save him, and the decision must be made accordingly.

    everyone under the bus!

the point is.. if you have a doubt that people who are this way would raise a child copying the Cambodians, and program that child, and remove obsticals for him to achieve what only a person who has no idea can achieve… (ie, a tool… so programmed that he naturally does what a revolutionary would do from knowlege… in this way, he would be right for them, and even pass ever lie detector test… )

    the term is “groomed”..

prior to the modern age it is what rulers and leaders did to their children and slaves and such…

doing to the mind what chinese foot biniding does to the foot

    sigh…
    no
    double sigh..

  9. if you take a minute, and collect the names… you will see that they are all connected.

the poetry that was Jamal is what we call rap.

at the nyack crime, one of the people killed was Jeral Wayne Williams… AKA Mutulu Shakur
    tupac shakurs stepfather…
and who brought “rap” especially gansta rap and culture to the african community? the child who was the kid of the foudners of the black panthers..

and whose poetry are the copying for the music? h rap brown…

    http://www.crimelibrary.com/terrorists_spies/terrorists/brinks/4.html

and we say that obama is an anti US imperialist..

    but do we remember?

“Their founding document [the Weather Underground’s] called for the establishment of a “white fighting force” to be allied with the “Black Liberation Movement” and other “anti-colonial” movements[1] to achieve “the destruction of US imperialism and the achievement of a classless world: world communism.”…”-Berger, Dan (2006). Outlaws of America: The Weather Underground and the Politics of Solidarity. AK Press, 95.

and yes, i knew all of this and much more before he was even elected..

ah… so you have this white fighting force in politics, the financial support of africans through these revolutionary foot soldiers… and islam supplying things, as they keep the borders open.. and make sure the citizens are not armed…

    going to be interesting.. no?

“[Bernardine] Dohrn [Bill Ayers’ co-terrorist wife] once was on the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted List. She served seven months in prison for refusing to cooperate with a grand jury investigating a 1981 armored truck robbery in Nyack, N.Y., in which two police officers [and 1 Brinks guard] were killed.”
    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/aponline/20011101/aponline190504_000.htm

how much closer can you get?

guilty as hell but free… right?

so maybe, reading what they read, and study and follow, just might, give a hint… eh?

  10. I’m going to sound like a Palin sycophant, and maybe I am a little, but is Sarah the ONLY prominent republican who’s figured this guy out (I’m not counting Trump)? Obama and the libs will NOT “play nice.” They never have.

  11. They were “Shocked, shocked!” And then Ryan promptly had a pretty sizzling op-ed in WAPO the next day defending his plan against the President.

  12. Jim,

You sound like you are based in reality.

I like what Paul Ryan has to say. I don’t know why he and his coworkers are surprised at Obama.

Every one of his speeches seem to be from the belief that capitalism, conservatism, Republicans want to move the country backwards.

Yes, every democrate may believe these things – this is why Bill Clinton’s speeches pissed me off also.

But somewhere along the line I realized Obama is VERY inflexible. As is the rest of his team in the Senate.

  13. I remember well a televised joint appearance by Lynne Cheney and Mario Cuomo before an audience of (I think) high school students.

Lynne Cheney went first, and offered a bland but intelligent mini-speech, acknowledging how we’re all interested in motherhood and apple pie.

Mario Cuomo went second, guns-a-blazin’, blasting Republicans, Republican ideas, and Republican ideals.

When he was done, Lynne Cheney started her retort. “Well, if I knew you were going to do that . . . .” She fired back, but too little too late.

    They never learn . . .

  14. Amongstthe many things that Artfldgr writes, these are the statements that stand out IMO:

“believes with religious fervor that he is the anointed one… (sound like hitler stalin, lenin, etc?)”

Yes, and the MSM gets tingles and gushes about Obama striding the world like a colossus.

“like a sociopath, he cares for NOTHING.. as with the ideology of the leaders, there are no morals, there are no ethics, there are no loyalties… ”

He is a tragic and dangerous man. By tragic, I mean he was twisted by the circumstances of his childhood and his extreme narcissistic personality disorder was set in concrete at an early age. Hence, he probably is sociopathic. The adjective dangerous does not need an explanation.

    Thanks for the tour Artfldgr.

  15. OT: Reading Art’s quote above about the Weather Underground, and recognizing the ethnicities of the dramatis personae described in it, put me in mind of an impolitic sentiment that I’d like to express, at the risk of giving offense (which I don’t mean to do).

We’ve talked about how Islamic culture needs to reject religious extremism, but in a similar vein, Jewish culture needs to reject left-wing extremism, and both need to reject the terrorism associated with that extremism. That’s not to say either culture is characterized, or even dominated, by its flaw, but rather that each of these cultures seems uniquely prone to harboring its own particular pathology in a subpopulation, and each needs to work — hard – on expunging it.

To reiterate, this was not intended to give offense, but to offer an observation that I believe could be acted upon with profit.

  16. baklava,

You hit the nail on the head. Reality seems to be a foreign land to most of the electorate these days.

Any idea of Obama being a classy, post-partisan leader should’ve been thrown out the window at his inauguration when he trashed George W. Bush, while Bush was sitting right behind him.

  17. More connections with the Brinks robbery follow. I didn’t know about the rapper connection.

Chesa Boudin, Kathy Boudin’s infant son, was raised by Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn. Chesa went to Venezuela as a tourist, and as a result of being of revo royalty, was working in Miraflores, the Venezuelan equivalent of the White House, less than a week after his arrival in Venezuela. He later wrote a book,Gringo: A Coming of Age in Latin America, about his experiences in Latin America.

If you think Bill Ayers reformed, I suggest you read the speeches he made in Venezuela. I will provide links if anyone is interested.

Stolen credit cards linked to the Brinks robbery were traced to a clothing store that featured Bernadine Dohrn as its manager. She was lucky to get what short time she did in prison for refusing to testify.

  18. Republicans need to practice political jujitsu. Use the enemy’s momentum to lead him into an indefensible position. It requires taking off the gloves and putting aside any notion of fair play.

Allow me to indulge….. The RNC should produce an ad of (1.) little kids playing at a playground (10 seconds) and then zoom in for a close up of the abdomens of pregnant women and quickly switch to a sonogram of a near term baby in the womb as a narrator’s voiceover that asks the question: “Should the very young and the unborn be burdened with paying for our selfish excesses?” (10 seconds) (2.) Next flash photos of Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Schumer, Hoyer, Durbin, etc. as the narrator asks: “Why do these people want to burden our children and our grandchildren yet to be born with deficits we refuse to control? Why do they refuse to offer serious answers to this question? Why do they want to enslave our children and grandchildren with a life of lowered expectations?” (15 seconds) (3.) Show the debt clock in Times Square with the narrator stating “This is the rate at which we are burdening our children and grandchildren with a debt they will have to repay.” (10 seconds) (4.) “Hello, my name is Paul Ryan, I have proposed a way to gradually save our children and grandchildren from the enormous debts they will have to pay off if we continue down the path laid out by President Obama and the democrats in congress. It will require sacrifices from all of us. It will mean reforming Social Security and Medicare. It will mean a smaller, leaner federal government. It will put more control into the hands of ordinary people across the country and it will take the burden off the innocent young backs of our children and our grandchildren yet to be born. Join me in solving this crushing problem.” (15 seconds)

I think this would be a very visceral 1 minute message. It would label the democrats for what they are: fiscal child molesters.

  19. I seriously doubt that Ryan was surprised…surely he has Obama’s number by now.

But really, what choice did he have but to accept the invitation (and prime seating)? Like it or not, Obama is the president and Ryan acted in good faith even though I bet he knew what was coming. I’m glad Ryan at least called him out on it afterward.

Really, Obama is such a small, small person. Even though he disgusts me in general and on a regular basis, there are times (like this) when I observe his behavior and just can’t BELIEVE he occupies this office.

Blech. Two more years (and heaven help us possibly six).

  20. Surely this attack on “honored guests” is a serious breach of decorum, much like criticizing SCOTUS during the State of the Union last year.

What is the right response? Why isn’t it to stand up and silently walk out on the speech, the way it’s done in the United Nations? Makes the point without shouting that what is happening is not normal, and it’s unacceptable.

  21. I agree with the other commenters, such as Holmes and Effess. Ryan had a fair idea of what was going to happen – look at the SOTU address where Obama attacked and slandered the Supreme Court.

The protestations of disappointment and bewilderment are kabuki. They are there to persuade people of his own good faith and to highlight Obama’s bad behaviour. (There’s something spectacularly churlish about inviting a man to a function in order to verbally attack him.)

Obama has given Ryan the perfect opportunity to attack – not even Teh Won can blame Ryan for defending himself. Ryan knows what kind of a person Obama is, and prepared for it and used it to his advantage. Good for him.

  22. Obama may have set him up, but Ryan fired off the most memorable statement of the day: “He’s basically a pyromaniac in a field of straw men.” I think Ryan was prepared for the worst – and got it.

  23. Hong said, “It always makes me cringe when Republicans use such milktoast language in their speeches.” Amen to that. It’s one reason why Trump is getting such traction at this point. Trump, IMO, may not always know what he’s talking about, but he is an assertive, alpha male. That is what most Republicans are looking for – someone who drips testosterone.

That said, once the dems and MSM get on Trump’s case, (which they haven’t because he has come out of right field) the divorces, the bankruptcies, and all the slick business dealings will all be used against him. And the populist masses will buy into it. We need an alpha male with fewer skeletons in his closet. So far, we don’t have one.

  24. Occam . . .

You don’t need to worry about giving offense re Jews and leftism/communism. It’s about time that people discuss this ugly phenomenon.

As I’ve said previously on this blog, a lot of Jewish leftism stems from European and especially Czarist persecution. It also was enhanced by anti-Semitic American snobs in the early 20th century.

For example, whenever my high-school friends and I reminisce about the 1950s in South Shore (Chicago), we never fail to mention the fact that the South Shore Country Club would not let Jews set foot on the property.

So, that’s two reasons why older Jews continue to think leftist thoughts. As far as the younger generation (my children’s generation), they’ve been brainwashed by leftists throughout the MSM. They’re the kind of people who wear Che Guevara t-shirts.

All this sounds trivial, I know, but the result is disgusting. Jews are really going to have to get whomped economically before they lose their leftism, and even then maybe they won’t change.

I’m pretty discouraged about this blindness since the Jews I’m talking about including my entire family and my entire social circle.

We shouldn’t be afraid to talk about this nutty phenomenon. Jews are generally not as smart as they thing they are. They may be good in some areas, but in political thinking they are fools.

  25. Promethea, thanks. I appreciate your comment, as I’d offered mine with some trepidation, and didn’t wish to be a discourteous guest.

I’ve wondered whether the relationship between modern anti-Semitism and leftist/communist agitation is a chicken/egg phenomenon, because while the former may spur the latter, conversely resentment at the latter is a factor in the former. Much as we now resent Muslims immigrants who want to introduce sharia, I can easily imagine that early 20th century Americans would resent Jewish immigrants who wanted to introduce Marxism (in both cases on an unwilling populace). (Czarist persecution doesn’t really explain this desire; you’d think that gratitude at being given haven from such persecution would make Russian Jewish immigrants the most patriotic Americans imaginable, or at a minimum preclude efforts at agitation and subversion.) A small minority of recent arrivals trying vociferously to turn the lives of the majority upside down is almost certain to become unpopular. The obvious response is to ask, “Why did you come here, if you dislike it so much?”

That quasi-nativist resentment would naturally be compounded by the recognition of the disproportionately large representation of Jews among modern American traitors, subversives, and agitators, from the Rosenbergs, David Greenglass, Morton Sobell, Theodore Hall, Gregory Silvermaster, Harry Dexter White, through half of the SDS to Howard Zinn, Medea Benjamin, Amy Goodman, Noam Chomsky and my favorite, George Soros. (Curiously, I have not detected similar manifestations of extreme leftism when I’ve been in Israel, although I may not have been there long enough to do so. Perhaps others can enlighten me on this.)

This is an unhappy record, particularly for a group constituting only a percent or two of the population, and almost inevitably must be one of the factors in both historical and modern anti-Semitism in America.

Again, the closest analogy would be contemporary Muslim activists in America, who have been making themselves unpopular in a fashion not entirely dissimilar. Few people would want to be around Muslim firebrands, especially in a purely social context, if they could possibly help it.

Unfortunately, I have no idea what to do about any of these phenomena, apart from plaintively hoping that they will eventually burn themselves out.

  26. Occam . . .

In my earlier post, I was talking about the snobbery that people like my parents encountered. This is a completely different thing than the fear of communist Jews that you mention.

There are several causes of communism among Jews. (1) Hatred of anti-Semitic Christians in Europe, especially Russia. If you read some Jewish history, you’ll get the gist. It’s not complicated.

For example, my grandfather came to America because the Czar and his minions drafted little Jewish boys for 25 years and sent them to desolate places, where they often died. He was basically a fugitive slave.

But the second reason for Jewish leftism is that the Jewish religion promotes utopianism. When American Jews took the opportunities afforded them in America, they generally did well. Most became very secular, and their religious feelings morphed into liberalism.

What’s the cure for liberalism? We all wish we knew!

For all the reasons we talk about on Neo-neocon, most liberals/progressives

  27. Oops–I’m trying to watch TV and post at the same time. Will proofread later.

  28. How right you are Promethea, except it’s worse than you suggest. Look at Wasserman-Schultz, J-street, Tikkum, and all those Jews who ignored Obama’s bad treatment of Netanyahu, the medal of freedom given to Mary Robinson, an antisemitism Czar who is a member of J-Street, the reinstatement of Samantha Powers. Jews are working to unwittingly KILL Israel because the current thought-fashion. Norman Podhoretz wrote “Why are Jews liberals?” about this herd phenomena.

Sometimes the stupidity gets funny, look at Alan Dershowitz who wrote speeches for Jimmy Carter and then turned on him when he discovered Carter hated Israel. The great thinker then went onto support Obama who was clearly anti-Israel from day one. Now Dershowitz, now trying to pretend he did not make the same mistake twice.

  29. In my earlier post, I was talking about the snobbery that people like my parents encountered.

My parents encountered that. Hell, I’ve encountered that!

  30. Occam . . .

Knock out that last sentence and my post makes more sense.

I think the reason there are so many leftist Jews in America is because Jews often gravitate toward cerebral subjects. Plus there is the “liberal guilt” factor. Plus there is the self-hatred factor.

  31. No.

Of course we have had peeks at the Obama behind the mask. Paul Ryan certainly has. Still, no one would expect a President of the United States to be so petty, so mean-spirited, so graceless as the pitiful little man who gave that speech. I am sure Ryan was indeed shocked.

The mask has slipped from time to time; it has been ripped off now. I will be very surprised if Ryan, or any other Republican, shows any respect for the man from here on out. And I don’t think they will play the “respect for the office, if not the man” song either. He has ruined any respect for the office; it will be up to the next incumbent to try to rekindle it.

  32. J.J. says, “We need an alpha male with fewer skeletons in his closet. So far, we don’t have one.”

Yes, we do. Herman Cain, Alan West, & J.C. Watts all fit the description. They all happen to be ‘persons of color’ which in today’s world is supposed to carry some weight. Chris Christie also fits the description but apparently he’s not interested. Then there is The Donald who is very alpha but has way too much baggage and its a bit weird IMO. And finally, there is the alpha female who hunts moose, drinks blood for breakfast, minces no words, and takes no prisoners.

So yes, our candidate must be alpha. He or she must be willing to challenge Obama in a way that he has never before been challenged. A smart, articulate, ruthless opponent would leave Obama slack jawed and/or foaming at the mouth. Narcissists come unhinged when confronted with reality.

(I happen to like Mitch Daniels and I think he would be another Calvin Coolidge — who was a great president. But like Coolidge, Daniels doesn’t have the necessary fire in the belly for the current political climate.)

  33. “… a President of the United States to be so petty, so mean-spirited, so graceless as the pitiful little man who gave that speech. I am sure Ryan was indeed shocked.”

I agree. Obama has behaved in a manner beneath the office he holds. This recent hissy fit, along with the dressing down of the SCOTUS during the SOTU address, shows for those with eyes that see and ears that hear what a callus, shallow, mean spirited person now inhabits the oval office.

Oblio says, “What is the right response? Why isn’t it to stand up and silently walk out on the speech, the way it’s done in the United Nations? Makes the point without shouting that what is happening is not normal, and it’s unacceptable.”

    Yes.

  34. I think the reason there are so many leftist Jews in America is because Jews often gravitate toward cerebral subjects. Plus there is the “liberal guilt” factor. Plus there is the self-hatred factor.

I’d say we’re batting .333. Gravitating toward cerebral subjects … nah, can’t relate to that. /g (Having said that, I’d think that the ultimate in “cerebrality” (to coin a neologism) is recognizing that the model presently promulgated doesn’t work, and must be modified/replaced. That alone should have put ‘paid’ to leftist policies. They’ve been weighed in the balance, and found wanting.)

I don’t get liberal guilt. Why anyone should feel liberal guilt escapes me. Different times, different mores. Consider slavery. European Gentiles bought African slaves – from African chieftains. European Jews financed the slave trade. So there’s some collective historical guilt there among these three groups, to the extent that one believes in collective historical guilt. But that was then, this is now. None of us had anything to do with any of that. Do Mexicans babbling about “Aztlan” feel liberal guilt about their Aztec forebears eviscerating helpless victims to propitiate the Sun God? (Assuming that they would have been the eviscerators, rather than the evisceratees?) Uh, no. Not at all.

But, having said that … at that time (and to no small extent, now) Africans killed their captives. Perspective, I believe that’s called.

And I also don’t get the self-hatred factor. In fact, I completely fail to grasp self-hatred. I perceive it, but I don’t get it. Why do Jews hate themselves? It’s a mystery, to me at least. I’m a perfectionist, but I fall short of perfection (no, don’t deny it, it’s true! /g). But I don’t hate myself therefor. I redouble my efforts to improve, sure, but recognize that I’m working toward an unachievable goal. Self-hatred for being good, but not perfect, is an enigma to me, much like the obverse side of the coin, self-esteem for existing, but not having achieved anything.

  35. Back on-topic, it must be the apotheosis of boorishness to invite someone to a prominent seat of honor at a speech and then to tee off on him, confident in the knowledge he cannot respond, and that decorum requires he sit and take the opprobrium in silence.

  36. Baraq the Banger, The Obstreporous One, He Who Can Do No Wrong, who worships at the Bottomless Well of Money like Gollum did the Ring, intends to raise and spend $1 Billion on his re-up campaign. Hell, that’s enough to make me want to tax the rich, zip up all their wallets.

  37. “… decorum requires he sit and take the opprobrium in silence.”

Decorum is highly over rated. The gloves must come off and no holds barred.

  38. To my mind Jewish Leftism has been dominated by the Frankfurt School — Ashkenazi Jews living in Germany in absolute thrall to Marx — another apostate Jew.

Jewish Leftism has always bloomed where anti-Jewish repression was low to non-existent.

That’s a far cry from the Pale.

    ——–

The true foundation of 20th Century Leftism is the paradigm shift that hit academe with Frederick W Taylor’s ‘Time & Motion Studies.’

It provided a scaffold to support the utopian grand schemes: huge productivity gains were had by manipulating the work force. Further, the industrial process was devolved of skill even as it scaled up. All of the early labor disputes revolved around destroying skill scarcity.

Being so close to it, the Frankfurt School entirely believed that a mass production economy was an end-state society. They took the big factory as their mental model for all of society. (It morphed into collective farming in the USSR.)

What stands out is that these brainiacs never, themselves, ever worked at such establishments. Instead, they carried on in the tradition of deep thinkers and sustained themselves on patronage. How old school!

The one-room school house supported by a rural community was morphed into massive state funded education factories with many industrial trappings. ( Bells, lockers… )

The perpetual debates of the shul were to be replaced by a final resolution: the Frankfurt School was going to take humanity all the way to an end-state of utopia using sound scientific socialism! ( Something about hubris ? )

While some believe that the Cold War was entirely won — the continued existence of First Directorate ‘Active Measures’ indicates that it has merely morphed into a shadow war.

That the Resident is a pink-diaper baby there can be no doubt.

That academe and J-schools are massively corrupted with Frankfurt School memes is patent.

Which leaves America with a fulsomely biased raft of fools spinning on a sea of manipulation attempting to smelt hot air into a new ‘Ideal Man.’

    ——

Afghanistan is a Sharia compliant state. So we’re astounded when Taliban are released from prison for attacking American soldiers. Some blame corrupt judges. Such is folly. Under Sharia it is NEVER a crime to kill a kafir. Period. The judge is merely following Afghani law.

In fact, a muslim that kills a kafir while waging jihad is considered blessed by his peers. If he dies while attempting such — he’s double plus good.

Yet almost a decade after 9-11 Americans don’t know such basics — to include high officers in our armed forces.

You should read the tripe the politicians hand out to them as academically valid. Yeah, Sharia is not mentioned.

    —-

I have to say I like the Ryan wit: “A pyromaniac running through a field of straw men.”

    Just perfect.

  39. Obama is the first anti-American communist President that we’ve had, but I wonder what some of our previous Presidents would have looked like if we had had radio, TV, and the internet. I’m sure that Wilson would have been the same kind of looney tunes as Obama. Maybe Jackson would have appeared just as much a demagogue. Andrew Johnson was no prize.

I hope the next President will bring back some dignity and gravitas to the office. Maybe we’ll get lucky again.

I don’t mean to threadjack, but I’ve been thinking about Jewish leftism. Actually, the Norwegians can be accused of the same kind of nuttiness. Ditto the Spanish and other Europeans. Maybe the proportions of leftist in those groups aren’t all that different. Maybe it’s some kind of “sociological” thing.

  40. “I’m sure that Wilson would have been the same kind of looney tunes as Obama.”

Before Obama, Wilson was my pick for worst president with Carter next in line. Obama has recently gone to the top of my list. And, yes Andy Jackson was a SOB of the first order, but nowhere near as destructive to the principals of the Constitution as Obama & Wilson. (Carter was merely grossly incompetent in office and became destructive out of office.)

  41. blert says, “Yet almost a decade after 9-11 Americans don’t know such basics – to include high officers in our armed forces.”

Confucius says, “Rot begins in the head of the fish.”

  42. Blert raises a great point re the Frankfurt School and Taylor’s time and motion studies, which were the in spirit if nothing else of “scientific socialism.”

Re the Frankfurt School, I’ve previously alluded to my interactions with Angela Davis. She was only in the vicinity to study with Herbert Marcuse, an erstwhile luminary of the Frankfurt School. Marcuse himself at the time was revered like a demi-god.

  43. “Marcuse himself at the time was revered like a demi-god.”

I remember in 1966 becoming acquainted with Marcuse in a conversation with a card carrying SDS fellow student. I was flabbergasted that anyone was sipping such illogical swill. That experience ended my tepid interest with the leftist mindset. Off with the pigs (the producers of wealth) and power to the people (lazy bums) failed to resonant with me. Coincidentally, at that time I became acquainted with Hayek and I’ve never looked over my shoulder since then.

  44. Oblio Says:
    April 15th, 2011 at 6:43 pm
Surely this attack on “honored guests” is a serious breach of decorum, much like criticizing SCOTUS during the State of the Union last year.

What is the right response? Why isn’t it to stand up and silently walk out on the speech, the way it’s done in the United Nations? Makes the point without shouting that what is happening is not normal, and it’s unacceptable.

I’ve been thinking that too. If he pulls a stunt like that again, they should get up and walk out.

  45. Off topic:
I saw Atlas Shrugged Part 1 tonight, and I thought it was excellent, to my great relief. I was rather skeptical when I first heard about it. I think they did about as good a job as one could hope for.

I plan to see it again tomorrow night, in order to do what I can to give it a big opening weekend. This movie needs to be a success. Our country needs for it to be a success. The timing of its release could not have been better. It’s–dare I say–Providential.

  46. Wow, this has been a great post with cogent comments thereto.

neo, blert, OB, Promethea, Parker, art, and many more have made this an above average history and poli sci session. Thanks, one and all.

rickl, Thanks for the critique. I saw a couple of snippets of the movie on Fox tonight and will be attending. I hope you’re right about the Providentiality.

  47. Promethea (and everyone else talking re: Jewish leftism) –

There was a rather good book, now totally forgotten, written maybe 30 years ago by Stanley Rothman and S. Robert Lichter, “Roots of Radicalism: Jews, Christians, and the Left.” In the book, Rothman and Lichter undertake a painstaking analysis of demographics of the original New Left/SDS student radicals, while also challenging the nonsense about right-wing authoritarianism that was used to justify it.

The book is outmoded in some ways (the kind of Freudian jargon that was popular back then is present), but in the decades since, from what I can tell, there’s never been anything like it.

  48. Diplomacy dictates acting “surprised.” But it must be – it should be a real eye-opener that they can so easily not only draw him out but generate such a response. I say now that they know they can push his buttons, start punching the keys – on EVERY LEVEL.

The left is reeling in their own torn hypocrisy over the bombings and Gitmo, he’s trying to bring them back into the fold with the comforting thought of bashing the rich old corporations, trying to give them something to hate, which is all he was ever about, for all the lovely rhetoric. There is no cure for Bush Derangement Syndrome, all that vitriol had to go somewhere and they discharged it all on Palin, but now, they are exhausted, and even they are tired of being pumped up to go slug it out for him. I think he is done.

  49. Ryan, et al, knew exactly what was coming. More to the point, they also knew what their expected, nay lusted for response was supposed to be. Instead of giving themselves to the distortion jackals, they comported themselves as adults and gentlemen. They followed the dictum of letting their enemy destroy himself. Ryan’s response was exactly the righht tone and measure. An GBU strike as opposed to carpet bombing.

  50. I have another interpretation. This ‘shocked reaction’ could be political theater also, a way of pointing out to John Q Public that the Resident is acting like a jackass and being unreasonable.

I sure hope so. Otherwise, they’re living in Cloud Cuckoo Land and have NO idea who and what they’re dealing with — the Vicious Party.

  51. I am honestly starting to believe that most Republicans think they are Democrats. After watching the “great debate” over this years budget and seeing that it came down to… less than pretty much nothing. I have to think most Republicans are Democrats, save the ones who did not vote, many of whom did so knowing full well it did not matter. Who to trust? Not politicians, whatever brand they choose to wear.

Yeah, I can see why they are surprised, blind-sided even, by the harsh reality that they are not actually included in a club which they thought cow toeing to would allow them membership. Surprise!

  52. I see y’all have the same take on it. Good.

Re high rates of Jewish leftism — it’s always baffled me. But then you have the older generation, like the old studio heads in Hollywood: all Jewish, and almost all Republican. Irving Berlin was in LOVE with America and wrote a lot of our best songs (but he really hated Army hours!).

I will never, as long as I live, understand creatures like Noam Chomsky or Susan Sontag. Pampered, cosseted, lionized, they still fouled their own nest. Constantly.

I was talking about this tonight over dinner with a Jewish conservative friend and a Korean-American conservative friend, and we didn’t solve it either. But I don’t understand Any of the Leftists’ self-loathing, no matter their background. They’re all nest-foulers.

  53. Great discussion here.
Re: Jewish leftism…I’m wondering if it may just fall under the larger umbrella of minority oppositism. By this i’m referring to a phenomenon that seems to commonly occur where small cohesive groups lack the numbers to be in charge and almost reflexively choose a position opposite of the majority that is in charge.

This is like an instinctual defense against loss of group identity. This explains why the radical minority sects in China will embrace western ideas of freedom in protecting their identity as seperate from the majority. And it also explains why the jew living in Israel doesn’t have quite the same worldview as the jew living in Christian majority America.

  54. What is sad, is that mono e mono, man to man, Obama doesn’t look like he could punch his way out of a beauty parlor.

  55. Alinsky’s acolytes delight in abusing the norms of propriety. This is part of the shtik. Their targets are surprised by their boorish behavior and then immobilized by fear of embarrassment. The power of social pressure is immense, but to adopt a posture of shamelessness is liberating and bewildering. Consider Groucho Marx and Margaret Dumont as a comic version of the dynamic.

But if the shameless are given the judge’s chair, and the power to accuse and shame, a much darker dynamic is the result. After the Long March through the Institutions, this is what has happened. In an ironic twist on the famous dictum of Karl Marx, the first time was farce, the second time is tragedy.

The bottom line is that there is no excuse for being surprised by boorish behavior from the Left, and no upside in being bound to rules and conventions that your opponents will not respect themselves. You must be prepared to turn the tables.

  56. CV,
that’s ok… George Foreman (i think – but probably am wrong) couldn’t punch his way out of a paper bag they made for him to test it out. (way before myth busters)… i remember the sequence but cant remember the show, or when… sorry… not the kind of think i refresh much…

  57. I wrote this little (for me) piece to hopefully make things clearer

It’s hard to see what is at play when you look at the show itself.
There is all this extra stuff and an inability to weed out what’s important from what is not important. After all, there are many levels of such, not just personal whim.

So let me make it very clear (if I can) by abstracting the problem to another example, and show through that the different mix at hand.

Rather than look to see Obama as black, or this or that. Or even whether you focus on him, FDR, bush, etc… the essentials are the same. Human experience is not so varied.

The example I will use is from nature, the Scarlet King Snake, and the Coral Snake.

To the ignorant, it’s complete random hit or miss, whether they would get killed. Ergo the ignorant tend towards fear and avoidance. If one of the lottery prizes is death, or other damage, perhaps not making a bet is the right choice. If the ignorant get to choose without such a negative outcome, they will. Ergo their willingness on the left to get someone else to try it first — but even that, in reality isn’t good enough, because the next event may not be the same kind of snake just seem like it.

To the somewhat knowing, it’s a different story… it depends on WHAT they know, and how general or specific it is. that is, specific knowing, can make the issue a non issue. knowing that black yellow black is safe, and yellow black yellow is decidedly not safe, is a good way to go. however, ignorance masquerading as knowing (affirmative action), or partial knowing (half truths), or not knowing but believing you know (outright lies or guessing pretending competence), all have different outcomes than REAL knowing, whose outcome is as predictable as the sun.

Also generally knowing works as well… surprise… that is, if you know that some snakes are safe, and some snakes are not safe, and you learn to handle not safe, and you apply that rule to all snakes till you know they are safe by examination, then guess what? Your outcome is almost as good as the real knowing is, and you do not HAVE to know, and the path it brings you along IS to real knowing, and safely. (You can think of this as a kind of human scientific method)

So if you want to see whats going on, you have to imagine the population as a mix of ignorant, partial knowing, false knowing, etc… all mixed together, and with each one dealing with the world from that point.

Example not included above… would be ignorant picking a person who they believe is knowing to guide them… not a bad choice when your blind… is it? and ignorance is a form of blindness…

So understanding things and predicting things is not all that hard if you have an accuratre model. Though this kind of examination is more like insurance looks at things than being able to identify which of the mixes that they belong to. In truth, given the choces, the people, the ability to mix and adjust, there probably is no real sets… (but that might not stop people anyway… since its hard for them to imagine any thing else but sets for their mind to handle. But there are other things… for instance. I can do the thing by mixing up to cyclic curves… reversing fourier transforms… or making music… that is another way of mixing up sets without being locked into digital sets as now you can add time and displacement of ideas… but that’s WAY to abstract and people tend to think I am a swami… so lets not go there)

  58. effess,

Thanks for the Charlie Rose link. Ryan is great. Compare our team with theirs. Isn’t Barney Frank one of their economy experts?

SteveH, I’ve thought about this, but I don’t think it explains the phenomenon. The most obvious counterexample would be the Mormons, although arguably the difference in concern about dilution of group identity lies in whether the group is a proselytizing one or not.

In fact, the Mormons are a great example of how a minority group can retain its identity and values and yet not trigger a sociological immune reaction from the majority. Once in a startup with a substantial Mormon representation the champagne flowed at a corporate celebration. The Mormons joined in, drinking sparkling apple cider. No drama, no making a point of holding themselves out as different, yet no compromise on principles either. Very wise indeed.

  60. The Jews are culturally identifying with the Left in America in a fashion much as the South did with the Democrat party before Reagan freed them from their chains.

That kind of party affiliation is only half voluntary. The other parts are social prohibition and cultural lock step marching.

The Jews, being where they are in the US, have absorbed Leftist thinking. Even in Israel you have seen endless attempts to become “One” with the Palis.

  61. Much of the Communist playbook is outdated indeed. Some are still relevant. What’s most important for people to understand is that the Left aren’t simply misguided, erroneous, people with different politics.

If they can get their head screwed on right concerning that matter alone, then they will be ready to comprehend the truth of what needs doing.

Many people never understood why I so despised and hated the Left. While it was natural for Leftists to hate conservatives because we were X, Y, and Z, it was, for the supermajority of conservatives, unnatural to actually hate the Left. Disagree with them, yes. Find their politics unwise and foolish, yes. But not hate. The true depth of emotion was lacking. You could only find it amongst conservatives in a small segment, notably those who either defected from the Left or were refugees from Communism. They were the ones who knew the true face of evil and they had the strength of their convictions though muted in exercise. The majority of conservatives only had their belief that Democrats were simply another party, slightly worse than conservatives. The Independents thought that both were as bad: a pox on both their houses.

So they never quite understood where I was coming from. And I never wasted my time seeking to educate them.

For the Left has already educated them far better than I ever could. And what have they learned? They have learned to suffer. And soon they will learn the true reason why the Left ought to be hated. And not just disagreed with. They have not suffered enough to understand the true face of the Left. Not yet. Not even with all that has happened. They yet still do not comprehend the depth of Leftist malignancy, malevolence, and chaotic nihilism. The Leftist alliance is composed of many ideological factions, many contradictory, yet they are bound by an iron purpose and determination. To seek your enslavement. Not destruction. That is only a means to an end. The bankruptcy leading up to the foreclosure, rather than bankruptcy being the goal in itself. They make you broke in order to enslave.

Obama could never do as he has done if the entire Left weren’t behind him. You know this and see it. Yet many people continue to believe that if they only get rid of Obama, all their issues will be resolved. That is foolishness. That is the short sighted view of those interested in winning and fighting over elections. Meaningless conflicts when considering the long term strategic plan of the Left.

In this age of information, we still have ignorance galore. Too many people are misled. Too many know too much of the wrong things while claiming them to be right. If the internet has spread knowledge, it has also spread ignorance amazingly enough. I never knew ignorance could be spread, before I witnessed the Left’s cultists in action.

What the Obamanation did with the budget, a strategic victory encompassing years in the making, creating an advantage out of the weakness of losing the Senate to the GOP, still tells me that we have Yet to see the worst. The Left still has something even better in store for all of us. Look forward to it. If I know them, and I do, it will be a sight to see as it eradicates the lives of millions.

How long will humanity have to learn to suffer before humans gain wisdom? It took humanity 20,000 years to figure out it was a good idea to try out an America. How long will it be before they get their next bright idea.
