I don’t quite know what I want to say about this…

…but I know I want to say something.

This is about the marriage between 51-year-old actor Doug Hutchison and 16-year-old Courtney Stodden, about which a lot of people are up in arms. Her parents are not among them, however; they gave their permission, which was legally required in order for the couple to wed.

I watched the following video of an interview with the newlyweds, and it’s one of the oddest things I’ve ever seen—particularly her facial expressions and body language, which seem almost a parody of provocativeness. It’s like she’s a kid who’s trying to imitate her idea of a va-va-voom movie star.

But although Courtney’s age (which has been documented) means she’s not far from actually being a kid, she looks older. A lot older. She also looks as though she’s been through a significant amount of cosmetic surgery, too, although she denies this.

The other odd thing is that her husband doesn’t look 51; he looks younger. So the general effect (at least to me) is that she seems older than he, in some weird and inexplicable way. Courtney herself says, “I’m very mature for my age. I have an old soul.” Whether or not she’s got an old soul, she certainly seems to have an old aura.

And large ta-tas.

Would that it were possible to do to the brain/mind what can be done to the face and ta-tas – oh what a wonderful world it would be.

  2. expat Says:

I wonder how she dresses for church. Seriously, this looks like a trailer for a porno film.

  3. Scott Says:

Regardless of the “proof” provided, I have a hard time believing she is 16. I wonder if we are being snookered here?

I wouldn’t miss a day of this blog, but this particular post is autoplaying on two different computers, every time I update the tab (I’m using Firefox these days). Since the video starts with a commercial, the player ignores any attempt to stop it. The thing continues to play when I switch to another tab. Only way to kill it is to close your tab…

  5. RandomThoughts Says:

    If she’s 16 I’m a hamster. If she hasn’t had “enhancements,” I’m a hamster with wings.

  6. neo-neocon Says:

mechdoc: I put up a different version that I don’t think will have the same problem of automatic loading.

  7. Trimegistus Says:

I have a daughter in her teens. That woman is not a teenager.

  8. mechdoc Says:

Yup. That took care of the problem.

    Thanks!

Sometimes it works. The historian Will Durant was around 28 when he married his pupil Ariel, who was barely 15. Some accounts say she wore roller skates at her wedding.

  10. Peter Says:

This would not have raised an eyebrow two or three hundred years ago. Of course, back then women tended to die young from complications of childbirth as well as diseases and accidents. Men also died from diseases and accidents, of course but they didn’t get pregnant.

Today, of course we have thirty year olds who have yet to become adults. That was not the case in 1811. Back then an eighteen year old woman was rapidly on her way to being an old maid if not already married.

Those two are having us on.

  12. Parker Says:

After watching the video I was not concerned with the difference of age (I was born in Kentucky). What struck me was the weird demeanor of these 2 characters. The man is a fool for not realizing the woman (no matter if she’s 14, 16, 18, or 20) is a gold digger. She is a fool if she thinks this lower echelon Hollywood apparatchik and 15 minutes of youtube fame is a magic carpet ride.

  13. Thag Jones Says:

At 4:48 particularly, her facial expressions… What is this, a porno? Damn weird, is all I can say.

  14. CZ Says:

    Now that’s ONE LUCKY MAN!

  15. Francesca Says:

    Good grief.

  16. Perfected democrat Says:

Ha ha ha ha, she definitely knows how to walk the walk. A little comic relief is fun for a change….

  17. John Says:

    She looks,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, older than 16.

  18. SteveH Says:

So she looked 16 at 10? What kind of parents made sex and sensuality the sole focus of this girl’s existence? Very creepy.

  19. Michael Says:

Ok, he looks like Dracula and she looks drugged or drunk. Unabashed pedophilia.
Tell me where this ends, if you can, without cheating and looking up Isaiah and Revelation.

  20. dicentra Says:

Eugene Tooms is a lot older than 51: he just has to emerge from his nest every few decades, feast on a few livers, and then go back to regenerating.

Maybe she’s got the same mutation.
