Fashion tails

Fashion tales of fashion tails—this can’t be a trend, can it? It just can’t.

First, there’s fore:

And then there’s aft:

The wearers are Emma Roberts and Olivia Palermo, in that order. I have no idea who they are and I’m not about to look them up and link to them. If you care, that’s your task.

    Neo,

Thanks for keeping up with this stuff — so we don’t have to.

    I sense a little grumpiness.

  4. Bill West Says:

I was just kidding. My wife and daughter are always pointing out that I never notice things, especially related to fashion.

Now I can say that Neo keeps her readers hip to the scene.

  5. Rickbert Says:

Reminds me of the trains on wedding gowns. At least, wedding gowns seem to be one of the few places you see trains on dresses anymore. If it’s a trend, that seems the likely source of inspiration.

The average age at marriage seems to keep going up. Maybe women now spend more years browsing thru wedding catalogs and trains are a sort of vicarious fashion statement?

Just a shot in the dark.

  6. Curtis Says:

    Fashion bale.

  7. Matthew M Says:

    “…this can’t be a trend, can it?”

For a second I thought you were referring to a pet peeve of mine: the ubiquitous promotional wallpaper in the background of every one of the photos from these red carpet events. Hard to imagine Grace Kelly in such a setting.

  8. Gringo Says:

To justify their existence, fashion designers have to keep coming up with something new. Not all will be winners.

Male clothing is much more prosaic. Most of what I wore in the ’60s resembles what is in my closet today. Jeans, khakis, oxford shirts: not much change there. ( I still have a shirt from that era.)

  9. Perfected democrat Says:

    Handy wipes?

  10. rickl Says:

They’re both kind of cute, but I have absolutely no idea who they are or what they’ve done.

“To justify their existence, fashion designers have to keep coming up with something new. Not all will be winners.” -Gringo

To justify their importance, celebrities (as well as the budding ones seen here) hire the best PR firms to insure they will be seen and photographed in the latest of designer duds. (No matter how awful said fashions are, or how their “look” screams “fashion victim.”

And Gringo, as an ex-clothing designer I can assure you, NOTHING is ever new. Everything old is new again. Repeatedly.

That would be Emma Roberts, as in Eric (daughter of) and Julia (niece of) and she is an actress, too. (Surprise)

  12. Susanamantha Says:

With the aft version, one needs to be especially careful when visiting the restroom. My mom and best friend both has misfortunate wet tails after such a visit. sometimes those electric hand driers can come in handy.

  13. Susanamantha Says:

    “both had” that is.

  14. Mrs Whatsit Says:

These photos remind me — and not in a good way — of the time I stumbled accidentally into the midst of a convention of Furries.

  15. Steve D Says:

As a white, late 40′s, hetro male with no real interest in fashion (beyond the uncomfortable fact that my pre-teen daughter needs a training bra) I have to ask, how direct is the link from the runway to the big box retailer. Is my daughters middleschool going to be filled with “tailed” teens this spring? Or is this basically an “haute couture” thing?

  16. Steve D Says:

All I can think about when I see this stuff is Jerry Seinfeld proclaiming “but I don’t wanna be a pirate”.. :)

  17. CV Says:

Emma Roberts is the niece of “Pretty Woman” Julia Roberts and now a rising starlet herself.

    Olivia Palermo? Not really sure.

Not to worry Steve D, I doubt you’ll be seeing “tailed teens” at your daughter’s school anytime soon.

Be prepared, however, to purchase Uggs boots, a Northface jacket, Sperry topsiders and/or anything with a Vera Bradley pattern on it. These have been trends among pre-teen and teenage girls (at least in our neck of the woods) for a few years now and don’t show any sign of fading soon.

  18. MissJean Says:

But if their breasts and midriffs are covered, I applaud the fashion!
