At least Barack and Michelle are consistent about this
I wonder what important things Obama thinks he’s doing for the people at this point, and what important things he plans to do for them/us in a second term:
I also wonder why he and Michelle are so down on their quality of life as First Couple. But at least they are consistent. Here’s Michelle Obama during the 2008 campaign:

And what it means to Mrs. Obama is sacrificing many of the things she holds most dear, in favor of a larger goal. Although she has concluded that this mission is worth what it takes, achieving such acceptance has been difficult, and the adjustments are ongoing.
I feel terribly sorrow for their sacrifices. But maybe we can relieve them of the burden by not re-electing them.
Speaking of re-election, Newt Gingrich isn’t polling well against Obama. If Gingrich becomes the nominee, and people become more familiar with him, I’m not sure whether that will change for the better or the worse.
It is difficult to believe the polls are valid. At this poing anybody running against BHO has an excellent chance of beating him. Newt is very articulate and knows how to push his opponents buttons. Unless dirty tricks get out of hand Newt would probably win because most voters have had their eyes opened since 2009.
If I remember correctly, Michelle’s senior thesis was about the horrors of going to Princeton. For all we know, she can’t abide Martha’s Vineyard and the Costa del Sol either.

A poll came out yesterday that showed both Romney and Gingrich beating Obama in the swing states. Those are the key. There are 12 swing states. Obama won all 12 last time. In those states he trails Newt and everyone basically.
Well, if they really are considering not running for a second term–and I do count both of them as “running”–its probably because they estimate that they have wrung out just about all of the easily gotten high living, great food, adulation, “entertainment,” relaxation,” perks and vacations that they can from the Presidency, and that–now that more and more people are apparently catching on to their “long con,” its time to split.
SpongeBob SquarePants could beat Obama, if he had the support of the GOP machine. Gingrich can certainly win, but will he have any coattails?
For all the carping about how government and corporations are fatally short-sighted, everyone is committing the same error in this election. The only goal is short-term: defeat Obama. I say the goal should be long-term, that we all live up to what we claim to believe, and elect someone who will begin enduring improvements in the operation of the FedGov and in our broader culture.

Long term the problem is the American people, not the President we elect.
A Republican House, Senate, and White House give us a chance. That’s all. But that’s all we can ask for at this point, and all we really need.
Mike the poll above is of registered Republicans. Which is in most cases second least effective type of polling. Honestly If a polling group isn’t grabbing likely voters only chance are the data is not as good as it could be
The short term goal is to get Obama out as well as fill as many House and Senate seats with conservative people. A long term, and even more important goal is to weed out the bloated bureacracy filled with left wingers. Those with jobs for life, just like our debt and deficit, are most troublesome to me.

These polls are part of the media narrative that Barak Obama is just a normal good guy and above average American President. He isn’t close to being either. And the media isn’t close to being manned by decent people.

I am looking for the candidate who will improve the people. Not in an Orwellian way, but simply by treating us as adults.
Power is zero-sum. No matter how much “better” the gov’t gets, it must always operate at the expense of the people. The founders knew that, and the change to hope for is fostering a society that can thrive under Constitutionally-limited government.
First of all, I don’t trust polls. I’ve always believed that they are more about molding public opinion than reflecting it.
Secondly, I don’t believe that either Romney or Gingrich can beat Obama. Both are deeply flawed and have zero support among vast swathes of the electorate, left, right, and center.
Once either one of them becomes the Republican nominee, the MSM will open up a no-holds-barred 24/7 propaganda attack. They will be dragged through the mud six ways to Sunday. Each one will be portrayed as an old rich white male who is out of touch with modern America.
Women and minorities will not vote for them. Oh, some women may vote for Romney because he’s handsome, but they will NOT vote for Gingrich. No matter how bad the economy gets, Obama will be portrayed as doing the best he can with the hand he’s been dealt. The media will even make him out to be a sympathetic figure.
But the thing that bothers me the most is the way this interminable series of debates and polls has served to winnow the field before the first primary voter casts their vote. I don’t think that’s an accident.
At NRO’s Campaign Spot, Jim Geraghty reports that Gingrich is now pushing brain science as a way to decrease the medical costs and improve treatment of Alzheimer patients. I am all for federal funding of research, but it seems a stretch to relate it to budget balancing at this point–just like mining on the moon. Are these big ideas about the future going to impress people with Gingrich’s brilliance, or will they make him seem a bit detached from today’s problems like finding a job?
I wonder whether the Obamas ever considered that they will have security details for the rest of their lives? Never again, a private trip to Target. Oh well, they asked for it, and their return to a private life in Chicago can’t happen soon enough for me.
There is enough fighting and name calling on the republican side alone. The republicans don’t want a real conservative. I think we are all seeing that. Our nation no longer knows who the hell it is. Regardless, if (and even so, I do hope when) Obama loses, it is going to be difficult.
I haven’t taken time to read the full transcript of his tepid blather to our warriors at Ft.Bragg today. Pieces I have heard on the radio I consider unforgivable and loathsome. Not only is he calling RETREAT from a Huge Victory in Iraq, he refuses to call it a Victory. A despicable Moral Midget. A human shipwreck.
Now that Ron Paul is polling in the top tier in Iowa and actually getting mentions in Big Media, I wonder how the lefties would attempt to assassinate his character.
This is a very late addition to this thread, but the discussion of this topic yesterday on Ann Althouse’s blog was priceless. She memorably characterized Obama’s thoughts about “the people out there” as being so Norma Desmond, with a clip from Sunset Boulevard that had me chuckling.
Could there be anything worse than Zero? As in, Hillary…
