Love found…

…and lost, and…

A great story-song from the late Harry Chapin:

He was a great story teller. My favorite was “Taxi”.

This one has grown on me over the years. Upon first hearing it, I didn’t particularly care for it, but the story is one nearly any of us has experienced in some form or another. It may not be “boy meets girl…..”, but it’s there.

Great choice, neo. “Better Place” was my favorite of all his “stories” way back when.

I got to see Harry perform twice while in college. He would spend several months each year traveling across the country and performing alone in benefits to raise money for battling world hunger.

Well, not always alone. He would ask for volunteers from the audience to help him in songs that required additional singers. The first year a fellow student who’d been blessed with a fine baritone voice reluctantly made his way to the front of the auditorium – it was more like a lecture hall, actually – and timidly stood behind Chapin, keeping his hands deep in his jeans pockets, as they teamed together to sing “Mr. Tanner.” There have been very few moments in my life so magical as that one.
