James Lipton is…

…an obnoxious guy whose “Inside the Actors Studio” interviews I can’t abide. But there’s one thing about him you’ve got to admire.

How old to you think he is? Fifties? Sixties? Seventy at the absolute latest?

No. Lipton is 85. And that is one of the most astounding facts I’ve heard in a long time.

Another fountain of youth is Pauley Perrette, the girl with the pigtails on NCIS.

I shouldn’t say “girl,” though. She’s 42, very close to 43:

[NOTE: Both facts were brought to my attention by the helpful folks here.]

    I put Lipton in his 60s. Neat-o.

The Perrette girl looks like a lot of 40-somethings in my neighborhood. Who also look like a lot of 20- and 30-somethings in my neighborhood. The style cues outweigh the body/health cues.

By the time they hit the 50s, dyed pigtails and “counterculture” accessories start to look out of place. We’re not far from having grannies with hipster tattoos.

    Good genes.

What is it about Lipton anyway? I can’t bear to watch his show either but I thought it was just my contrariness. Thanks for the vindication.

Of course, we mustn’t leave out Ronald Reagan, who, in his prime was a younger-looking man than the dour, bitter man he ran against in 1980. And then there is Nigella Lawson: http://www.listal.com/viewimage/1515678h who is 51.

Hmmm … hanging upside down in a corner at night really seems to work. ;-)

    Good Lord, Perrette’s my age?!
