Perhaps the best sign… — 8 Comments

  1. And if they were somewhat positive, you would know that they are not afraid of him (remember all of the glowing “maverick” coverage of John McCain?) So good news on both counts. 🙂

  2. I hope that if Mitt wins, his rather mild behaviour so far means that he is saving up a few zingers for the debates with Obama.

  3. neo, I have now read the editorial, and am trying to ascertain the good news which you infer. Is it that Romney can run on his opposition to the Pubic Option? That is good news. Is it that Romney can run on his opposition to Reid/Pelosi having rammed through a partisan bill? Or, something else?

  4. gcotharn,
At least Romney tried to preserve private and competitive institutions. Once they are destroyed by single payer and government-controlled decisions about treatment options, it would be hard to resurrrect them. Single payer would also slow down or eliminate much medical innovation.
It’s a really hard decision, but I don’t think you can say that Romney wasn’t trying to preserve something worth preserving. I don’t know whether there is a good way out without reforming medicare and medicaid to change the way people think about their health care.

  5. Indeed. Up until now, of all the major candidates, “Mitt-Too” was the least threat to the Plantation. But if the Hive and its media arm sees him as the likely GOP candidate, Romney immediately moves to Threat Level One.
