Castro asks the Pope… — 2 Comments

  1. Such an opportunity should never be missed. The Pope, having answered the question, should have responded with requited curiosity by asking Castro “what does a blood thirsty despot do”?

  2. Interesting that Castro and the Pope were not the only instance of a reference to the Stalin quote popping up in recent days.

Senator Blumenthal [D-CT] had this to say about the Supreme Court.

The court commands no armies, it has no money; it depends for its power on its credibility. The only reason people obey it is because it has that credibility. And the court risks grave damage if it strikes down a statute of this magnitude and importance, and stretches so dramatically and drastically to do it.

It is an eery replay of Stalin’s asking “How many divisions does the Pope have?”

Like Stalin, Senator Blumenthal is concerned with power. And nothing else. Bear in mind that Senator Blumenthal was also Attorney General for the State of Connecticut, so he should have an intimate knowledge of the relationship of courts to the law and the Constitution.

While Senator Blumenthal’s remark sounds rather thuggish, with its echoes of Stalin, he has already shown his character. He lied about serving in Vietnam.
