Tweeting — 20 Comments

  1. only if you like the left coming in here in massive numbers on almost nothing.. i guess, the length of comments will have to drop farther than 5th grade level…

I wonder if Obama 70% of fake friends would comment here too.

why not add some american idol coverage like the news, and basically help eradicate all non entertainment based things…

    our new idea

Kill Substance Love Superficiality, insignificant, little, minor, small, unimportant, unsubstantial as the new way…

After all, how many substantial anything have you ever read under a half page? (That you had no prior knowledge of)?

    fight fire with fire!!!
    stupidity with stupidity!!
    cargo cult with cargo cult…

  2. Artfldgr: if the effect is as you say, and I don’t like the type of traffic it generates, I can always remove the button. And I also have the power to ban people who are trolls.

But I thought Tweet buttons (about which I know little) act more like links, in that people are really recommending that others come to a site and read the entire article. Therefore it could act as a way to have more people actually read the posts here.

As I said, I don’t know much about Twitter—I don’t like short little statements much myself, so I’ve never gravitated to it. But people recommend longer pieces that way, as far as I know.

Others might be able to shed some light on this.

  3. Why don’t you just add a button for e-mailing a post?
    That’s what I’d like.

    I hate Twitter and FB!

  4. I don’t twitter, FB, or haunt any ‘social networks’. Do what you will. It will not change what I do.

  5. I think you would be surprised at the number of people you additionally reach by adding both buttons. I post a lot of stuff to FB and occasionally retweet something, but only to a small group of people. But they in turn might have a small group of people they post to, and so on and so forth…

  6. Do those who sign up for Twitter and Facebook get a subscription to Tiger Beat, assuming they don’t already have one?

    Just askin’.

  7. Occam, FB is actually more for older users they’ve found. It started out with college kids, but the older crowd moved in, and suddenly it was less hip. I find it really useful for keeping in touch with people who would otherwise fall by the wayside. “Oh, but why not call them?” Because you don’t necessarily want to have a full conversation with someone all the time.

Twitter is great for keeping up with current events in real time, and the Conservatives I follow on there are hilarious in a format that is made for wit/brevity.

  8. NAh, they get subscriptions to teen vogue, mother earth news, and huffington post tin lapel button…

  9. I’d prefer you make a Facebook fan page for your blog that we can like within our own Facebook accounts. A Facebook update announcing each new blog post appearing in our Facebook feeds would provide us an opportunity to share our favorite blog posts with our Facebook friends.

  10. Just refreshed the main page and voila… a tweet button under each headline. Initial reaction: oooh, isn’t there a less obtrusive option? One that doesn’t mess with the aesthetics of the page. Perhaps links like those for ‘Trackback’ and ‘Permalink’.

  11. I find it really useful for keeping in touch with people who would otherwise fall by the wayside.

Precisely my reason for avoiding social networking. Why would I want to have people whom I thought I had successfully ditched decades ago to get back in contact with me? If it works for you, use it. For me, I prefer to have a higher degree of control over my cyber-life.

  12. Neo: It works in here already, so PLEASE do NOT fix it. If we twitterers or FBers wish to link, we can make a link. Do NOT make this harbor like every other site.

  13. And by the way, no one under the age of 35 knows what Tiger Beat is.

Yeah, I know, but I took the measure of our demographic here.

Actually the only reason I know of Tiger Beat is the shot of a cover (featuring John Candy as Dewey Oxburger) that appears at the end of Stripes (“Win a dream date with Ox!”). Perfect. I still laugh when I think of that!
