For those of you in swing states who say you haven’t seen any Romney ads… — 7 Comments

  1. I loved Jane Edmonds speech at the RNC. I kept wonderingl how much hate mail and threats she got from “tolerant and loving” liberals for being a self admitted liberal who dared to speak very well of Romney.

  2. I haven’t seen that Nevada ad air here yet, but I’m looking forward to seeing it soon! Those kinds of ads are some of Romney’s most effective.

What I’ve come to appreciate about his campaign is that he’s trying to be highly critical of Obama, but he’s trying to temper his criticism so as not to scare off people who voted for Obama in 2008 and who have had regrets about doing so. He doesn’t want to make those former Obama voters get defensive so that they vote for Obama again or stay home and don’t vote. Instead, he runs lots of ads showing voters with a bad case of buyer’s remorse in an attempt to persuade more of them that there’s no reason to feel bad about changing their vote this time around.

  3. Way to Go Greg. He was the point guard on the 1990 UNLV final four championship team and has mostly been a Republican.

He started a small business while attending UNLV but the NCAA made him sell it citing some obscure ruling.

There has been past talk of him running for the US senate…He would be light years ahead of Reid.

  4. I’m in CA. Saw my first ad today. During the Braves/Cards game, so maybe it was national. Anyway, it was for Obama. All about how Romney/Bain had invested in a company that had “outsourced” jobs to China. Really? That’s all you got? The guy invested in a company that moved operations to China?

Does that crap work? Do idiots actually say, “Oh, wow. That’s awful. Sure, the economy still sucks and the POTUS did horribly in that debate. But, wow, investing in a company that went to China? Can’t vote for him.”

Well, with a record like Obama’s, I guess there is nothing else they can do. Just depressing that stuff like this might actually work.

  5. Here in PA, six days into October, and I’ve seen exactly two Romney ads. One of them emphasized China. (I wish he’d drop that China thing. Is that going to get any traction?) I can’t blame him for more or less giving up on PA, though, maybe he shouldn’t waste his money. But in the last week I’ve also seen two Obama ads. Are the Dems getting worried? And if anyone has some spare cash, please consider supporting Tom Smith for Senate. He’s closed the gap with Bob Casey to single digits. Remember, we can’t repeal Obamacare without the Senate.

  6. …He would be light years ahead of Reid.

Talk about setting the bar low. My cat would be light years ahead of Reid. The mouse population of the Senate would be held in check, and its rats would decline by one.

I think Romney’s strategy is the right one: hit 0bama hard on the issues, and reflect the disappointment that many who voted for him are now starting to express. We’ll all see if it works in November, but I agree with Kurt that this approach should allow 2008 0bama voters to think “I gave 0bama a fair chance, it didn’t work out, and it’s ok to vote for Mitt now”. Maybe it’s not what those of us who consider ourselves red-meat conservatives would like to see, but we’re not the target audience.
