Romney and “Independence Day” — 10 Comments

  1. By the way, in the film the president is a former fighter pilot.

I guess he couldn’t cut the mustard to become a “community organizer,” whatever that is.

  2. I suspect the resemblance is as much on the level of character as a physical one, although I am reminded of the look Romney gave Obama during the second debate – that “stern, half brow raised-dad’s home-there’s gonna be hell to pay now-I want answers” look. Hadn’t seen that look on Romney’s face before, but oh it was a killer look.

  3. Love that movie and that speech. Glad you found it.

Also love many of the lines such as when Will Smith kicks the alien saying, “Welcome to earth.”

  4. One of my favorite movies, and I always knew that president was republican. Why? Because the exotic dancer admits to “voting for the other guy.” Actually you’re right, both Romney and Anne bear some resemblance to the pres. and first lady of Independence Day.

And hey, maybe he won’t let us go quietly into that good night/surrender without a fight.

  5. If he had been a Democrat in the movie, he would have looked to how to best appease the aliens and maybe do some introspection into why they hated us.

  6. Here’s something: I don’t know if there was an attempt at Romney, but what I noticed is that the Bill Pullman character was married to a politically active First Lady who resembled Hillary Clinton more than coincidentally. Seems to me maybe there was an attempt to endear the public to the characters and through transferrance promote the president.
