Kudos, Jon Stewart
For this:
I’ve seen quite a few clips of Stewart lately that show some good sense and some moxie. I’ve always thought he was a talented and funny guy, and it’s nice to also agree with him for a change.

it’s easy to mistake liberal upset with incompetence with criticism of actions taken. Given his liberality, I strongly suspect that Stewart isn’t upset with what the IRS did, as he is with how incompetently the administration is handling the scandal.

I wonder, though, if with Jon Stewart’s audience this is all nothing more than a good laugh. Do most of them even know, for instance, that the IRS comes under Obama’s jurisdiction?
Can someone explain to me how Jon Stewart’s “newscast” is any different than SNL’s Weekend Update?
More the pity that Fox news is derided as not being a genuine news organization while, as Oldflyer noted above, many younger people think of Stewart as a bonafide journalist.

I am fairly sure Fox News is not knowingly a parody of news. If I am wrong though, that would explain quite a few of their more hysterical positions.
Jon Stewart is usually pretty good when it comes to any kind of hypocrisy. This seems to be the thing that irritates him the most.

Attorney General Holder would beg to differ. He doesn’t find Fox News hysterical, but criminal. As in, it is CRIMINAL to disagree with The Won. Which justifies Fox News being searched etc.

When he skewers left and right equally, and keeps it up over an extended period, I’ll be open to a change of heart on him.
You did fine Ed Bonderenka. I had a little trouble decyphering Simon’s message, however.
WRT to Fox, Hannity is pretty much over the top; although I will say that he is generally respectful, and often airs opposing view points. Other that that, Fox is pretty straight up with their news. Their Opinions clearly are Conservative, and I am not sure how anyone could object to one Conservative voice amongst the Liberal babble.
Let me know when he breaks 5′.
Stewart is a performer, a good one. He has an act which is quite lucrative. There is a long history of performers who, in real life, were as far as can be from their stage persona. An example: Jack Benny played a notable skinflint.
“Your money or your life! Wait a minute, I’m thinking.” is a famous line. Benny was a kind and generous man.
Stewart throws in a real zinger every once in a while. This is one of my favorites:

I find John Stewart Pretentious, preening and stupid. I don’t intend to change that opinion just because he has noticed the man he helped to elect to the most powerful office on earth is a corrupt incompetent.
His use of the word “alleged” @0:45 is wholly inappropriate. They are not alleged. The IRS has admitted to them in multiple ways… including the clip he was about to introduce and compare with previous statements.
“Alleged” means “someone claimed, but has not yet been proven.
People keep using that word with regard to this… I do not think it means what they think it means.

Yes, I realize “idiot liberal” is a repetition of terms, for the most part. But there are random exceptions… just not Simon.
Stewart’s being very, very easy on the IRS. Snap jokes about filing deadlines and asking “what happened?” does not make for treating them the same way he’s treated other organizations he doesn’t like.
Stewart knows which way the wind blows. I’ll take him seriously when he starts taking principled but unpopular positions.
Act evil enough times, you become evil. And no, IQ + cash won’t save the Jew called Stewart, any more than it did Soros.
