Is this a great country… — 18 Comments

  1. Assemblyman Jay Webber, a Morris Republican said the provisions of the bill penalize those here legally by charging them more.

Yes but not only legal immigrants. An American citizen who is not a resident of NJ will pay the higher out of state tuition rates, while the law breaker is rewarded.

It seems likely that the convoluted rationale is that the social injustice of being a poor, ‘undocumented’ democrat (;-) justifies the largess.

One more example of a country going down the tubes folks.

  2. “Marisol Conde-Hernandez told the panel of how she paid her own way through Rutgers University at the out-of-state rate because she was here illegally. Conde-Hernandez said she would greatly benefit from in-state tuition when she enrolls in Rutgers School of Law this year.”

“She would greatly benefit.” What can you say? Yet again the satirical impulse goes down to defeat in the face of reality.

  3. It used to be a truly great country… now its in the or what category and we’re going to find out what or what is going to look like over the next 3 years.

  4. Coincidentally, Elbert Guillory, the Lousiana state senator you featured earlier, is a Rutgers Law grad.

  5. So what is not being funded to offset this largesse?

Here in Colorado they passed similar legislation (in April) as well as legislation to purchase air tanker planes (for firefighting) so that the state is no longer dependent on the federal planes. However, the Democrat majority voted against the actual funding for these planes ($17 million), and Hickenlooper didn’t include funding for this in his budget, so it only exists on paper. It took 26 hours for the federal planes to arrive with the recent Blackstone wildfire. Sorry to rant, but it boggles the mind that Dems continue to dream up new ways to give away money while the can never find any to fund things that actually fall under the government’s responsibility.

  6. For politicians — all parties — this is still the era of easy monies.

As for the specifics: this is what made New Jersey, New Jersey.

As a Democrat bastion, it needs additional Democrat votes like it needs ….

  7. Lizzy,

I saw that the media is reporting that the sequester, which is of course the republican’s fault is to blame for the lack of fire fighting capacity in the Colorado fires. Meanwhile they don’t report on Obama’s 100 million dollar African vacation or the Feds Spending $800,000 to Teach Responsible Fatherhood or the IRS handing out $70 million in ‘bonuses’…

  8. Geoffrey Britain – Figures. It’s not the d*mn Sequester it’s the decision to spend the money elsewhere. Hickenlooper found $89 million in his budget for state worker pay raises but not a dime for a few of these planes. Who cares about mundane stuff like preparing for wildfires when you can make national headlines for taking better care of the latest victim group with freebies like in-state tuition?

  9. We on the right need to recognize that the left are operating under a completely different premise on the issue of illegal immigration. We look at something like in-state tuition for illegals and think, “Wow, what a really bad policy. Don’t they realize that this will only encourage more illegal immigration while punishing those who follow the law?” The left OTOH have already more or less rejected the concept of illegal immigration. They think that poor, uneducated folks who sneak across the border have as much right to live in America as anyone else, and are in fact MORE deserving of sharing in the American dream than the bigoted, middle class whites in border states like Texas and Arizona who are trying to keep them out.

Keep in mind that there’s this overarching pseudo-economic notion among the lefty elites that all of the world’s wealth comprises one big “pie,” and America is eating far more than its fair share of that pie. It’s time, they believe, for everyone else to share in the pie.

This is, of course, nonsense. First of all, America baked that pie, or at least provided most of ingredients and spent the most time in the kitchen. We didn’t steal somebody else’s pie off the kitchen window sill. Second, there isn’t just one, existing pie that has to feed everyone, forever. Here’s an idea, lefties: Let’s figure out how to bake some more pies! In particular, maybe Mexico should bake a pie. Let’s stop with the (arguably racist) assumption that the only way people in other countries will ever enjoy wealth and opportunity is by moving here.

  10. The Marxists are trying to kill the Middle Class that preserves the status quo in order to hasten the proletariat vs capitalist revolution.

  11. How does this work exactly? Can I simply march into any country and declare myself part of a victim group that requires remedies including rights beyond what citizens have without the responsibilities?

  12. too bad my family escaped the nazis, and stalin
it was a waste of time

bronx science, no college, as i am a priveleged child of war refugee

no college for my son, he dont have a pudenda, or a tan

    sis has many degrees

maybe the way to go to school is to go to mexico, abandon my citizenship, come back illegally, and i can attend?

    guess not…

but then again, genocide is what it is…

  13. i guess like the jews the caucasian race is not to have a home on planet earth… i wonder if they knew that was what the world would do to them if they defended the jews during the last war? either way, its moot. from south africa, to europe, to scandanavia, to the US, and so on… there is no place on the planet that is home…

maybe i will move to china

if i have to be stuck in a despotic socialist state
better the one that respects smarts, and not the racist hack you apart with machetes African kind so popular in Rhodesia, Kenya and South Africa…

(i had a teacher who “lived” through the Rhodesian conflict… the socialists there cut his wife’s ears and nose off and forced him to fry it up and eat the parts in public. made him a pretty freaky teacher)

    sadly…
if this place goes pop, you can be sure that external forces WILL take advantage of such… and are doing so now

  14. in answer to the rhetorical question “or what” – this is a stupid country, and getting dumber by the minute.

  15. “Can I be of more use to you as an attorney or a bartender?”

I vote for bartender. We already have a huge surplus of ambulance chasers, homegrown…

  16. When I said that Britain would have a chance only if they cleaned up their bureaucracy by executing 50%, I was being optimistic.

The US isn’t even near Britain’s level of corruption/violence/decadence, except perhaps in Detroit, New Orleans, and Chicago.

But the time will come when 50% pure execution and purging, would seem like a mercy, a “cheap deal” to fix America.

  17. External forces would best be notified to conquer elsewhere, like the Middle East or Europe.

Because Americans will get very crazy. When we become perfectly fine nuking our fellow neighbors… there won’t be much reason holding us back from nuking the rest of the world if pushed to it either.
