Maybe it’s time… — 18 Comments

  1. In the Midwest we barely crawled into double digits today so we’ll keep clinging to our clothes, thank you. And with a deep freeze coming out of Alberta over the next few days we’ll double down on the clothing. 😉

  2. As a mere red-blooded American male am I qualified to say how unattractive and unappealing those outfits are, and how ridiculous they make the wearers look?

Long ago a very level-headed, non-Leftist gay friend of mine insisted that the large gay segment of the fashion industry deliberately (spitefully) intended to make women look ridiculous and clownish.

One of those dubious opinions which has always seemed to have a kernel of truth.

  3. Tonawanda:

Yes, but the women don’t have to cooperate in looking so awful. I’m not sure why they do.

  4. I am with Tonowanda.

The American high school boy, or college youth for that matter, will apparently never again appreciate how intriguing a fully clothed and stylishly dressed girl can be. Of course the “repressed” sexuality of the ’50s just added to the mystery and allure.

  5. I’ve always been convinced that the designers of women’s shoes are also ferociously gay women-haters who wish to torment us AND make us look ridiculous.

I’ve suspected for a long while that the reason I love classic designs by Coco Chanel and Edith Head, and whoever did designs for Laura Ashley (among others) was that they wanted to put women into flattering yet relatively comfortable clothes.

  6. There are still designers who design clothing that’s attractive. Some celebrities, especially wannabe and fading ones, wear this ugly stuff for the sake of publicity. Unfortunately, it has the effect of making insecure women think it’s what they should wear.

  7. Don’t give them any ideas, Neo!

I’m still irked by seeing the sluttish look of bra straps showing everywhere. And why don’t women realize that stockings (especially silk ones) make even young women’s legs look so much prettier? Nothing is as sexy as silk stockings and a pretty garter belt, if you want the whole megillah.

Related: why can’t the young actresses stand like women? They always look like awkward tomboys who’ve been shoehorned into a dress for the first time in their lives; they have no idea how to carry themselves to project female allure. Or, as our Aunt Linda would say, “They look like they’re walkin’ over plowed ground.”

Here’s an example: Scroll down (or Ctrl + F) to the one captioned “Sultry sirens,” and compare Dita Von Teese, who knows how to work it, and Bethenny Frankel, modern gym rat (holding the giant strawberry in this shot):

The burlesque gal really knows how to come across as a sultry female; the other one has no idea.

  8. My aesthetics for feminine clothing has been taken over by the Japanese standard, and partially the South Korean one too.

What I find crazy is that the skirt is mandated for women on several levels of social conditioning, even in winter. Stockings are used to protect the legs from temperature differences.

If academia, police unions, and DC is infiltrated by Leftists, why not fashion too?

  9. Fashion designers have to come up with something “new,” in order to justify their existence, which more often than not translates into “edgy.” Time and again, which has also meant multiple Neo posts on this.

Why do women wear such stuff? There are people whispering in their ears that such stuff is “innovative,” “edgy,” etc. Or they are whispering that to themselves. I am reminded of the classic story about the emperor who had no clothes. There are not enough people willing to tell the wearers of “innovative” wear that they are wearing junk. Though even if there were such truth-tellers, they would be dismissed as troglotyes/reactionaries/fuddy duddies what have you.

Fortunately, there is much less “innovation” in men’s clothing. Which is why I can wear shirts over 40 years old and not be considered a troglodyte. Pants- even less “innovation.”

  10. Don carlos, those are the ancient berserkers that drank mushroom soup and powered up with blue paint on all the time through winter, right?

  11. One source said that fashion was originally something based upon what the powerful wore. In order to mimick and seek approval from the powerful, courtiers wore what the King and confidantes wore, in order to ape either approval or solidarity.

So now that the Superpower called the US is controlled entirely by homosexual activists, black eugenics based slavery plantations, and white Leftist corruptocrats, they are, and have in the past, attempted to mimick Leftist “culture”.

Because that is the ascendant power in the last few decades of Western civilization (the end of a golden age).

  12. If we dispense with clothing, all that will be left are piercings.
…and men would pay good money for women to remove them.

  13. Underwear as outer wear was famously fashionable in Paris — immediately after the worst of the slaughter was over.

One might opine that Paris was taking minimalist dress to its natural extreme.

In an industry that trades on looks… what can you expect of a young gal on the hunt?
