…when Andrea Mitchell says “more or less” at around minute 1:00 of this clip from last night, maybe she actually means “less.”
A lot less.
Because otherwise, we’d have to come to the conclusion that she’s just making stuff up and hoping the American people are incredibly ignorant/stupid. Or else it’s Mitchell who’s just that stupid.

Andrea Mitchell. I enjoy how Rush says her name. Andrea Mitchell.
But Mitchell (unwittingly, I’m sure) points to a truth: the love and respect Persians have for America.
In 1984, I had a Persian roommate. His first name was Siroos, but I could call him Cyrus. I managed to get the pronunciation nearly right, and he thought that was just so great of me. He was getting a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering. He was very smart and disciplined.
He loved America and Americans. He loved the freedom. I was always invited to family parties and gatherings and treated with great interest and respect. Expatriate Persians are very close to each other. The Iraq/Iran war was then killing very many on both sides.
Siroos was a handsome fellow, extraordinarily polite and helpful. His family was very musical. I strummed the guitar, and his father used to sit straight across from me. He liked “Knock, knock, Knocking on Heaven’s Door.” It’s only three chords so I could oblige. He would pat my knee, drink beer with a shot of vodka in it, and had a look of the greatest benevolence and kindness. I didn’t know how rare and how good of an opportunity it was. If ever I was given a chance to mix with Persians, I would.
I don’t believe at heart, Persians are Muslim. Below is an introductory article about that horrid religion settling like a dark cloud on the great Persian people. The abandonment of them by Obama is one of the highest reasons I hate Obama. Another thing I find compelling: If there were scientific and poetic Muslim masters for which a claim of a “golden age” can be grounded upon, it was because of the Persians.

No question that many Iranian (Persian) people like the US. But that most definitely was not what Mitchell was referring to (I know you added “unwittingly” to make that point; I just wanted to make it again).
IMO, both. She’s that stupid, and she considers the people who were watching to be dumb enough to believe whatever nonsense she makes up on the spot.
Actually, it was just another variation on the blame Bush theme.
Andrea was evidently thrown into a a coma just before the Carter administration took power, and then suddenly awoke from it the night of GWB’s misguided speech. What a shock it was to her, and all Americans for Bush to declare Iran a terrorist state, and not our long standing buddy ally.
The other guy? Who knows. Some of these people will say and do anything to keep getting invited (paid) to show up and nod their heads like morons.

What an opportunity missed, it was, the Green Revolution. I believe Obama is so nefarious as to his hatred of Israel and its success that he points Iran as a weapon against it. Who would want to invest in a company in Israel when Iran has nucs? And there may even be a corporate American support for that policy so that America will not have to compete. Likewise the immigration issue. Corporate America has never been so filthy and so much on the wrong side.

Actually, I think Cillizza was merely intent on correcting the record as to what he’d been saying about the “axis of evil” speech, which was that it was an important speech. I’m not sure he was listening to everything else she was saying, he was just waiting to get a word in edgewise.

For too many people, history is not what actually happened, but what the speaker/writer wants it to be, very often in the service of an agenda.
Gonna say it now: I’ve found this on the left, I’ve found this on the right, and I just hope ‘n’ pray I don’t find it in me — but alas, I’m all too human.
That said, Andrea Mitchell is supposed to be a world affairs journalist [cough cough], and so might be expected to transcend spewing forth so ridiculous an assertion.
Can we get some input from those embassy employees who spent 440 days as “guest” of Iran just how friendly the Iranians have been?
Andrea Mitchell goes home most nights to her husband Alan Greenspan. They are both oily debris that has floated to the top of the American water, never right about anything.
Oh wait. I do remember Greenspan as Fed chair saying he invested ONLY in US Treasuries. Made a lot of money for himself that way. Helps to be in charge.

I’d vote for southpaw’s coma theory. I recollect the 1970s very well, and one of the things I remember was the Ayatollah Khomeini’s revolution, the crowds chanting Death to America, taking over the US embassy, holding our people hostage, et cetera, et cetera. I mean, coma is the only way I can explain Ahn-dreeah forgetting all that.
Away back in the day, I had a brief and unserious flirtation with an Iranian military cadet, doing training at Lackland AFB about the time that I was far enough along in basic military training to have base leave and enough liberty to have mild flirtations. He was such a mild, gentle sort, very proud of being Persian. He could reel off poetical compliments like an Elizabethan poet unfurling pages of sonnets. I’d never before met a guy who could do that with such skill, although I didn’t take them seriously at all. He had a picture of the Shah in his wallet, of the Empress Farah – and he and the other Iranian trainees looked down on the Saudi trainees (they had a Saudi contingent also, at the time – still do, likely.) as uncouth, camel-riding country bumpkins. I hope he managed to get out of Iran before the revolution; it would have been such a bad place for a courtly, gentlemanly poet.
I suspect, like many of her ilk, Mitchell’s understanding of the world begins and ends with what is discussed in the Washington/New York cocktail circuit. They do not read; they do not remember; they have no logical means of processing any information that contradicts their own narrow world view. And why should they? They are, in fact, the chosen.
