As SOS, Hillary Clinton gave Boko Haram a pass
Hillary Clinton had plenty of chances to condemn Boko Haram back when she was Secretary of State:
…[Clinton’s] own State Department refused to place Boko Haram on the list of foreign terrorist organizations in 2011, after the group bombed the U.N. headquarters in Abuja. The refusal came despite the urging of the Justice Department, the FBI, the CIA, and over a dozen senators and congressmen.
“The one thing she could have done, the one tool she had at her disposal, she didn’t use. And nobody can say she wasn’t urged to do it. It’s gross hypocrisy,” said a former senior U.S. official who was involved in the debate. “The FBI, the CIA, and the Justice Department really wanted Boko Haram designated, they wanted the authorities that would provide to go after them, and they voiced that repeatedly to elected officials.”
…Being placed on the State Department’s list of foreign terrorist organizations allows U.S. law enforcement and intelligence agencies to use certain tools and authorities, including several found in the Patriot Act. The designation makes it illegal for any U.S. entities to do business with the group in question. It cuts off access to the U.S. financial system for the organization and anyone associating with it. And the designation also serves to stigmatize and isolate foreign organizations by encouraging other nations to take similar measures.
The State Department’s refusal to designate Boko Haram as a terrorist organization prevented U.S. law enforcement agencies from fully addressing the growing Boko Haram threat in those crucial two years, multiple GOP lawmakers told The Daily Beast.
So, why the refusal under Clinton? It doesn’t seem to have been a set-in-stone policy of the Obama administration, either, because when John Kerry became Secretary of State after Hillary, he finally did list Boko Haram as a terrorist organization. Republicans in Congress had written “letter after letter” urging Clinton to do it, and were joined by some Democrats as well, but she desisted.
Here’s the reason that’s being given:
In 2012, more than 20 prominent U.S. academics in African studies wrote to Clinton, urging her to not to label Bok Haram as a foreign terrorist organization. “An FTO designation would internationalize Boko Haram’s standing and enhance its status among radical organizations elsewhere,” the scholars said.
Inside the Clinton State Department, the most vocal official opposing designating Boko Haram was Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Johnnie Carson, who served in that position from 2009 to 2013. Several officials said that the Nigerian government was opposed to the designation and Carson was focused on preserving the relationship between Washington and Abuja.
But that doesn’t make a lot of sense either. If giving Boko Haram the FTO designation would enhance it, wouldn’t that be true of practically any organization receiving such a designation? Then why do it at all, except for groups that are already hugely well-known and international in scope, such as al Qaeda?
And wasn’t the Nigerian government at least nominally fighting Boko Haram? So why would they oppose the designation?
To sum: what’s the point of an FTO designation if not for cases such as this one?
Some people think the failure was part of the Obama administration’s effort to give the impression that it had defeated terrorist groups like al Qaeda and that terrorism was much weakened (the same motivation for their role in the Benghazi debacle). But if so, why would Kerry act as he did in 2013? Was it because, now that the election of 2012 was over, the fiction no longer had to be maintained?
I confess that I’m somewhat puzzled by this whole timeline, but that’s the best explanation I can come up with.

Whether they are taking a cut or not from Nigerian sex trafficking and slavery, we don’t have the evidence for, but the bond is real.
I would think it’s partly because t might interfere with the “AQ is in retreat” narrative, but I suspect it has more to do with this administrations willingness to work with, and even support, Muslim groups including the Muslim Brotherhood and the Taliban. They would not want to offend these allies by publicly denouncing a related group.
Probably going into tinfoil hat territory to bring up that under Hillary and Obama there have been many Muslim Brotherhood who have joined the State Dept. and other federal institutions. For example, Hillary’s “body woman” and long-time aid Huma Abedin, who would never have passed a security background check with all of her and her family’s ties to Muslim Brotherhood/Muslim Sisterhood.

I see. Ignore the problem, and maybe it’ll go away. We’re truly in the very best of hands.

The leftist website Think Progress says the reason for the change under Kerry was because “it became clear that the arguments against designating the group were no longer enough to prevent their addition and under pressure from lawmakers who were preparing to legislatively force the administration to do just that.”
It also links to an article that says the Nigerian ambassador to the U.S. at that time said the Nigerian government was “opposed to such a designation because it might subject Nigerian travellers to intensive search and scrutiny around the world, especially in western capitals and cities.”

Even now the State Dept. is avoiding the true nature of Muslim terrorists Boko Haram, with Kerry recently attributing their behavior to poverty. And Senator Boxer is using the “bring back our girls” campaign to bring back the International Violence Against Women treaty to the Senate floor, as if Boko Haram is part of the Dem’s silly War on Women narrative (yeah, kidnapping & sale to Muslim men for forced marriage = GW Law student demanding that school pay for her contraception).

What could go wrong?
I think maybe the key player in this was the Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Johnnie Carson. He’d been around the State Dept. for a very long time and had served as U.S. ambassador to Kenya (1999—2003), to Zimbabwe (1995—1997), and to Uganda (1991—1994).
That gave him quite a bit of power, I would think, when it came to calling the shots with Nigeria. It also means he’s probably very close to his counterparts in the foreign services of African countries, so if the Nigerian ambassador to the U.S. was heavily against putting the organization on the terror list, Carson would have listened.
The problem with strategy war games is when you try to win, and all your officers defect or turn out to be the enemy.
Personally, I don’t know if I believe any of this. Number one, why would a rock band suddenly turn into a terrorist organization? And B, the supposed leader they show in the video doesn’t look anything like Robin Trower.
Hillary has extremely poor judgment and has been a failure at every job.

I wouldn’t blame Huma Abedin for Hillary’s refusal to list Boko Haram as a FTO. It isn’t as if someone else had been advising Hillary the state department would have done anything differently on her watch.
But bringing up her name does raise some important questions. How does a daughter of Saleha Abedin, a member of the Muslim Sisterhood, get a security clearance?
The Muslim Student’s Association is a known (from the Holyland Foundation trial documents) and in fact North America’s first Muslim Brotherhood front group; how does an officer of the board of a Muslim Brotherhood front group get a security clearance?
At the same time she was on the board of Institute for Muslim Minority Affairs with Al Qaeda financier Abdullah Omar Naseef. The IMMA’s mission in countries with Muslim minorities is somewhat similar to the MSA’s assigned mission. Recruit Muslims, Islamicize them, ensure they do not assimilate, but rather demand the country/campus alter to suit them lest they feel like outcasts.
In other words, they are here to Islamicize you, not to let you westernize them. They are both separatist, Islamic supremacist groups.
So how does a woman who sat on the boards of two such organizations get a security clearance.
I know, I know, she married a Jewish guy. So she’s Americanized, right? But how does that change the fact that none of her family has ever condemned the marriage despite the fact that in some cases they’re members of the MB, or are members of similarly Islamic supremacist organizations. One cleric, I believe in the gulf, issued a fatwa saying that Abedin’s marriage to Weiner is null and void because indeed according to Sharia it is unlawful for a Muslim woman to marry an infidel. In fact he said she was committing an adultery.
You’d think that would be a problem for her MB afffiliated family, and indeed the MB in general. Yet she travels throughout thee Middle East, even drops by with Hillary Clinton for a friendly visit with her mom Saleha, and not a peep from any other cleric, the MB, her family. No one. Even though any other woman who had done that would be a candidate for an honor killing. But for Huma? Crickets chirping.
Which leads one to suspect that maybe they believe Huma Abedin is destined for a bigger and better things. Remember, Jihad makes the impermissible permissible. Anything goes when you are waging Jihad.
Can you imagine the MB getting it’s very own Congresswoman, Senator, or maybe even more? The al-Mansuran Candidate.
We need “WHERE WAS HILLARY?” T-shirts throughout the campus-land.
