Obamnasty
When Obama announces his new amnesty plan, I propose it should be given the name “Obamanasty.”
Here are some details, according to leaks:
The plan calls for expanding deferred action for illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as children — but also for the parents of U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents.
The latter could allow upwards of 4.5 million illegal immigrant adults with U.S.-born children to stay, according to estimates…
Another portion that is sure to cause consternation among anti-“amnesty” lawmakers is a plan to expand deferred action for young people…This is estimated to make nearly 300,000 illegal immigrants eligible.
Then there are some financial incentives to sweeten the deal:
DHS also is planning to “promote” the new naturalization process by giving a 50 percent discount on the first 10,000 applicants who come forward, with the exception of those who have income levels above 200 percent of the poverty level.
Tech jobs though a State Department immigrant visa program would offer another half-million immigrants a path to citizenship. This would include their spouses as well.
I’ve never heard of that visa program before—what are these tech jobs? Why are they being offered to immigrants? Do they involve jobs for which there supposedly aren’t enough qualified Americans to fill the positions? [See “NOTE” below for answers]
What’s more—and I’m sure this will make them feel really, really good about all of it:
Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers also would see a pay raise in order to “increase morale” within the ICE workforce.
The National Review has a suggestion for the Republicans’ next move in this chess game:
But Congress still has the power of the purse. While it cannot stop Obama’s passive abuse of discretion (his exempting the vast majority of illegal aliens from immigration enforcement, for instance), it can use that power to prevent active abuses, like the provision of work permits, Social Security cards, and driver’s licenses to illegal aliens, which would be politically irreversible.
This is why the message of today’s editorial rejecting a long-term budget deal made in the lame duck is so important. Harry Reid will obviously not agree to any funding riders prohibiting Obama from issuing work permits to illegal aliens. Also, the Republican leadership has already said it’s not going to engineer another government shutdown. But in the next Congress, the House could pull out the Homeland Security budget (rather than fold it into an omnibus funding bill for the whole government) and attach the rider just to that, so when Obama vetoes it, only DHS will be subject to a “shutdown.” The reason for the quotation marks is that it won’t be much of a shutdown since law-enforcement components continue to function as “essential personnel,” including the Border Patrol, the Secret Service, the Coast Guard, ICE, and the TSA. In fact, the chief component of DHS that actually would be idled by a budget battle would be US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the very bureau that would have to implement Obama’s lawless amnesty.
This creates a Catch 22 for Obama, if only the GOP has the wit to exploit it ”” if he signs a DHS budget with the rider prohibiting his amnesty, then it doesn’t happen (though he would still be able to implement certain other parts of his lawless plan). But if he vetoes it, the agency that he needs to process the amnesty is furloughed, so the amnesty still doesn’t happen.
But all this depends on Congress approving a short-term spending bill (a Continuing Resolution or CR) now ”” one that would keep spending at the current (absurdly high) levels for the next two or three months, so the new GOP-run Congress can have a free hand. If spending were locked in till September 30 (the end of the fiscal year) the opportunity to halt the amnesty will be lost..
The NY Times offers a good example of the liberal approach to the immigration-reform-by-executive-decree story: Obama the magnanimous is relieving the angst of these suffering families; angry Republicans are against; there is no question that this is a completely legal move on Obama’s part. And nary a whisper of the word “illegal” for the immigrants; it’s “undocumented” all the way.

Look for someone with legal standing to seek an injunction to prevent the issuing of work permits.
May I suggest you modify the term to obamanasty. I think it rolls off the tongue more sweetly.
I agree on a short term cr, and then send a spending bill to get the feds funded until 11/15 that will gut funds for bho’s pet projects, and most of all gut dhs. No more funds for the green agenda, no funds for agw research, no funds for nasa mission to bloster the collective egos of muslims, no funding for amnesty, etc. The election was all about bho, the voters have spoken, including those who stayed home.
And as to those tech job.
This is a payoff to Google, Facebook et al. in order to keep salaries low and profits high. As if they weren’t already making enough money.
Simply stated: a price fixing scheme on salaries established by the government.

Executive Order 10450, also bans gays and lesbians from working… though i have yet to read if that was changed… (the reason is that they were often used for spying… ie. people used to living dual lives find it easy to live dual lives)

The next border crisis will be all of the pregnant women coming over the border so they can have their “anchor baby” in the USA. I also predict a large number of new babies born to illegals sometime in the August/September/October 2015 timeframe.

from 1987 -2007, 78% involved child soldiers. Government forces used child soldiers in almost 49% of the conflicts while opposition forces used child soldiers in a bout 67% of the conflicts (Tynes 2010)

A problem with any of these amnesty plans is static scoring. The assumption is we have a finite number of people in the country illegally who can be dealt with and the problem is solved. Unfortunately, in the real world an amnesty triggers an increase in the number of aliens crossing the border. The proposal to give work permits to illegal parents of children who were born in the U.S. would trigger pregnant women to cross the border and would encourage illegals to have babies to qualify for work permits.
Any amnesty must be preceded by effective borders and harsh penalties for employers who hire illegals.

I would remind everyone that the Coast Guard falls under DHS. Does the GOP also want to shut down maritime rescue/safety/sea patrol also? Seems the baby thrown out with the bathwater to me.

Of course, that’s the point of amnesty. You don’t think that Obama and the democrats only want to legalize and give citizenship to just the criminal aliens that are here now, do you?

In my experience the H1-B visa program is used to bring in educated, skilled workers with a drive to succeed. I work in the health care field and have worked along side (and supervised) Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists and Speech Therapists in this country on H1-B visas from many countries. Typically they are above average clinicians and excellent employees. They are required to pass the same boards and have the same educational requirements as any other therapist, cost the same to employ and are often the only therapists willing to work in rural areas.
I’ve been in some foreign countries recently. I was required to have a passport and visa. Why? Because those foreign countries want to know who is in their country and they have the sovereign right to know and to bar anyone they don’t want from entering. How did that all change here? Where do the progs get the idea that borders are meaningless? What would happen to an American who crossed into Mexico without his papers in order and permission to be there? He would be lucky if they only deported him.
When did the double standard become the norm? I agree the progs think the Latinos will be future voters. What they are ignoring are the costs to our welfare and Medicaid systems, the importing of diseases, the easier influx of illegal drugs, the impact on low wage workers, the probability that terrorists will use our porous border to infiltrate, and much more. In the area of protecting our sovereignty we have become a Banana Republic. Our government is no longer one of laws, but of men and their desires.
Whatever the Republicans can do to stop Obama, they should do. (Short of impeachment – unless the votes become available in the Senate.) Methinks it’s time for citizens to take to the streets again as the TEA Party did in 2010. We citizens have had a lot of injustices (Obamacare, EPA regs, no Keystone XL, IRS targeting of conservatives, Benghazi cover up, Fast and Furious, and much more) rammed down our throats. The curtain has parted showing that the Wizard Obama is a total left wing ideologue who ignores the law and the will of the “stupid” voters. Are we citizens or are we sheeple? “To the streets!” I say.

All I needed to see to “smell ’em out” was their immediate adoption of the muslims as their latest sacred cows/pets as soon as they burned thousands of Americans alive. Which revealed, in a stroke, their utter disregard for women’s rights, human rights more generally, if they have a chance to drive the knife into Americans and twist it — hard.
Everything they do follows that motive like a compass needle to the pole star.

Regarding the H1-B controversy, I deal with it regularly in trying to hire engineers. I am not sure if you would call it a cheap labor issue in tech jobs – it’s an over simplification of the law. The one component that is probably at the heart of it is needing to prove to the state department you can’t hire an American to do the job, and you generally need to pay the foreign national a significantly higher salary than the labor market as we know it demands. The state department has it’s own schedule for salaries.
I tend to support it because it is protecting Americans from being flooded with foreign labor of all kinds. It’s probably hypocritical of me, because the truth is as a percentage of college goers, very few Americans seek an engineering degree. I think the same is true for doctors. This is an advantage for those of us in these professions, but it’s not like anybody didn’t have the same chance to go after if they wanted it. So there is a shortage of engineers from a company perspective- because it’s hard to find good ones and and they cost a lot.
If this part of the H1-B program is amended, it may benefit the overall economy, but I doubt it. Most likely it will benefit investors and share holders as the dividend price for tech companies goes up, an native Americans engineering salaries go down. It’s unfortunate most Americans aren’t willing to work at the mathematics required to get the degree, but it seems to be the road block for most. After you get through it, its a great job and I would recommend it to anyone.
This is most likely why Republican leadership are giving lip service to immigration reform. They’re willing to dump a 10 or 15 million illegal, low or zero skilled people into our society so that a few hundred thousand engineers and scientists can easily emigrate here and satisfy their corporate donors. It’s always about money and votes with politicians – Republicans too, especially the “establishment Republicans”.

The fact is that the big players: HP, Apple, Google, MSFT, Intel, are scamming the law in practice.
It doesn’t matter what your opinion is: they are massively and fraudulently manipulating ‘the system’ on a GRAND scale.
There are attorneys whose whole practice turns on fraudulent H1-b paperwork.
They are not one-man outfits. One of them is a major firm in Portland, Oregon and their premier client is HP.
Their number one sales-attorney has a video up on YouTube spelling out in explicit detail how he and his peers have made a TOTAL mockery of this visa permit.
He claims that his firm has NEVER failed to draft a want ad that was able to exclude all American STEM talent — while leaving a hole for Indian ‘imports.’ (Indians programmers are his stock and trade.)
He further elucidates that the wage savings run to at least 50% AND that the poor Indian slob is CHAINED TO THE JOB. He’s indentured by way of the H1-b visa provisions.
H1-b brings back indentured labor!
Forgotten by most, this was one of the key issues for the Revolutionary War. (especially for Irish combatants)
And it was from indentured service/ labor law that slavery — de jure — arose. I’m constantly shocked as to how few realize how slavery got started: indentureds.
Slavery was nothing more than codified perpetual indentured status — eventually extending to one’s heirs. (more like anti-heirs in this case.)
In sum, for all of the big boys, the H1-b program is fraudulently applied. All of the paperwork is a con. In the event that a native American actually applies for a job slot — the advert is pulled — the job offer cancelled — and a new, more restrictive advert is placed.
BTW, it’s actually the case that un-responded adverts are an essential element of legal proof that there are no qualified Americans willing and able to take up the proffered position.
The Catch-22 is that the job offer is nixxed the second an American applies!
THAT’S how ‘the system’ REALLY works.
And the key players hold seminars and post YouTube videos to spell it all out for the slow witted. These jovial accounts are much to listen to. (The players are laughing at ‘the system.’)

BTW, the Big Boys don’t care that Indian programmers are half as efficient as Americans. (generally true — no acculturation — the gaffs will astound) What counts to American management is how it looks on paper: wage rates per hour are held down.
There is no paper trail showing that these fellows are drastically slower than natives.

The average/ norm IQ in India is approximately 80-84. So even with 1,000,000,000 souls, India really doesn’t have any surplus brains to export.
In a larger sense, the H1-b program is a cultural crime against India. It’s participants should be staying home to become doctors, politicians, and business founders. It’s no wonder India can’t quite get out of first gear: brain drain.
Bert no doubt there are law firms scamming and getting rich off the H1-B paperwork. Our corporate lawyers have a giant firm they work with. But I assure you that I am paying these guys and women on the high end of the spectrum. I direct over a hundred engineers and approve the offers, the raises, etc.
I don’t know what Apple and HP are doing, but my company is 30 billion in market capitaization, and these folks as of now are getting a salary that is in the top 10% for that job.
