Hey, let’s have some more tyranny
This is an extraordinary article urging more sweeping executive action from Obama on immigration. It’s extraordinary in that it completely ignores the constitutional questions involved in what Obama has done. It’s written by Robert Morganthau, a New York lawyer and former DA of some prominence.
The ends are all that count; who cares about means? The ends Morganthau is interested in are allowing more illegal immigrants to stay in this country:
I applaud the President’s announcement. He has taken a major step forward, keeping families together and allowing undocumented immigrants to work legally and pay taxes.
But Obama should not stop here. There are additional steps the administration should take to fix immigration policy that do not require either congressional support or more funding.
First, the administration should reallocate resources to provide support to El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala, three countries have become significant sources of illegal migration to the U.S.
…The Drug Enforcement Administration should join in the fight against Central American drug gangs and cartels by opening an office in the region and providing support to local law enforcement…

Perhaps that’s where Morganthau learned the lessons of power.

This is an over arching moral problem: the conflation of illegal aliens coming to welfare state America with victims of Nazi persecution when welfare was scarcely on offer.
(Aliens DID NOT qualify for government welfare during that period. Even post-war refugees had to secure non-governmental support…. like marrying an American.)
One of my Jewish neighbors landed in Canada in late 1945 — unable to legally enter the US. He ‘dry backed’ it down through Maine… until he hit the garment district of NYC.
Starting with $5 and change, (1945) he sold out his firm in 1969 for 1/2 of $35,000,000 — cash on the barrel head.
During all of this, he received no government welfare.
His tale is not unusual for Jewish refugees to America.
It is TOTALLY unknown within the Latino illegal community.
Well intending, well meaning, American Jews must not conflate every other society on Earth with the Ashkenazi.
Instead of net contributors, this is a flood of the poor and ignorant — and anti-European socialization.
Indeed, modern, Leftist, indoctrination is making the next generation of Latinos positively filled with rage against the nation that has so benefited them.
I’ve run into it on a personal basis, time and time again.
This 95 year-old codger is anti-informed about what is trending among today’s Latinos, native born and ‘fresh ones.’
Further, there seems to be a titanic blot within their vision: Leftist immigration rage is causing families to break apart.
This situation is NEVER going to be appreciated by the youngsters who’re separated from mom and dad.

In Morganthau’s first paragraph, he calls them “undocumented immigrants.” In this third paragraph, he calls them “illegal migrant[s].” Aren’t they the same people?
