I ♥ Kate Middleton’s dress — 29 Comments

  1. Kate always looks so well turned out, she should give lessons to the rest of the clan, ( I ll exempt the Queen) but Princess Anne & her daughter, the horsey set, could really use some advice on how to dress, desperately ! I cannot understand how such wealthy people fail to hire a stylist.
They have no skill whatsoever at dressing them selves.

  2. Jackie will always be a tragic figure to me, her beauty and elegance was wasted on JFK and Onasis. Kate on the other had seems well in control of her life’s trajectory. Lovely women are a delight to behold. I am privileged to grow old with a lovely woman.

  3. Molly,
I don’t care so much about the rest of the clan because they rarely show up in the news. I do wish a bit of her class would be emulated by the actresses, singers, and other celebrities who set the tone for young women.

  4. Also LOVE the dress (simple and sophisticated- great color)
Well, as much as a guy can profess to.
    😉
This woman certainly has filled her role rather well. As one who possesses the least amount of appreciation for the monarchy, it’s the best I can do.

  5. Ann,

I think that might be closer to the midnight blue the Duchess is wearing in the photo at your link rather than ink blue (the Christina Hendricks photo).

  6. I find dresses like this to be hard to accessorize. It’s difficult to find a matching tool belt.

  7. Soviet of Washington,

I was thinking midnight blue, but it didn’t seem quite right. Anyway, on that Web page, you’ll see that next to Kate’s photo in the dress it says it’s “ink blue.” At the Hendrick’s photo, it says her dress is “ink blue crystal.” Maybe the difference is in the fabric?

  8. Normally these Brit Royals just annoy me but Kate, Catherine Elizabeth (same name as my grand daughter) always appears to be fully turned out and carries herself with grace and a natural beauty. Her husband, the Duke has a lot of my respect too for his years of military service and I think he has seasoned into his role rather nicely.

And yes, she is stunning in that dress.

  9. I know that it’s become fashionable to not wear a necklace but I think that that outfit is crying out for one.

  10. I say it’s teal. And it’s absolutely gorgeous. I can see why she wanted to wear it more than once.

Kate is lovely and has impeccable taste, but I think one of her secrets is that she is always cheerful and smiling during public appearances. If she’s faking it, she does it very well.

  11. Classy dress, an example of what a friend once said to me; when something is right (such as a recipe), where all the disparate elements come together to form a whole greater than the sum of its parts… it ‘sings’.

I too think a suitable necklace would ‘complete the presentation’.

Whether beauty is superficial is dependent upon the inner nature of that which supports it.

  12. @expat I have totally given up on any actresses or singers dressing with any taste whatsoever, in fact they seem to go out of their was to out disgust some counterpart & shock their audiences, (eg Miley Cyrus !)
    with the way they look.
I can only tolerate it by laughing with my husband when he happens to see them he always chimes in with
“Well, whats wrong with that ?”

  13. Just lovely — and I actually like the pure elegance of the dress with no necklace, at least on that young woman and with those gorgeous earrings. It might not work on anyone else, but with a face and collarbones like Kate Middleton’s, less is more.

  14. I also do appreciate her taste in dress – classic, beautifully understated, suitable for the event, perfectly fitting and flattering – and sometimes even just off the rack. And she has perfected the fine art of almost always looking cheerful, or at least appreciative of the occasion in her facial expressions … unlike our own homegrown royalty. *cough* Michelle Obama *cough*

About the only good thing that I have to say about Nancy Pelosi is that she is always beautifully, classically elegant in her own choice of outfit and accessories. She may not know much – but she does know how to pull together an outfit suitable for her age, station and occasion.

  15. I think the reason she decided not to wear a necklace is because of those beautiful, long earrings. One statement piece is enough.

And Sgt. Mom, I agree that Nancy Pelosi always dresses beautifully. Of course she can afford it! Too bad her annoying stare and revolting politics don’t match.

    Meow!

  16. All this talk about how nicely Pelosi dresses (and she does) reminded me that Robin Givhan wrote a gushing piece in the Wash. Post about Pelosi’s style when she became speaker in 2006. Givhan was especially impressed that Pelosi chose not to wear any sort of patriotic pin:

Nowhere on her person did there appear to be a flag, an eagle or any other booming statement of patriotism that can so quickly transform a workday ensemble into a Fourth of July costume. Holding a news conference in front of flags was plenty; she did not feel compelled to drape herself in one.

Anyone here know if Pelosi took to wearing such a pin once Obama became president?

  17. Another point about the young duchess: She knows how to carry herself when wearing a dress, whether long or short.

So many young women (nearly all the actresses, e.g.) have no idea how to gracefully carry off a lady’s ensemble — they always look like they’re walkin’ over plowed ground. . . .

  18. A very elegant dress, very late 1950’s/early 1960’s. My 1967 Mustang Fastback was that color, Ford calls it Nightmist Blue.

  19. I for one hate the earrings. They belong on a chandelier not a woman’s ears. I just don’t like large “ear tags on a cow” bangles, even emeralds.

  20. Tsk,Tsk,Tsk. You all realize, of course, that you are all grating on the British sensibilities.

    She is not Kate Middleton…..

    She’s Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge

    You should have known better
