  1. Lexi is my dog, Dean, Sydney, and Sophie are my cats. Without looking at the lists, I’m guessing that I am just not one of the cool kids.

  2. My cat’s name is definitely not on the list,”Ocic” (pronounced Ossee) and my last dog was named “Horse” (if you would have seen him,you would have understood.)

  4. My brother’s wife’s daughter just got the cutest Lab puppy and named her Bella. I’m so ignorant of popular culture that she had to explain the significance of the name.

  5. We recently got a Goldendoodle puppy and named him Cooper (for Cooperstown – my son is a baseball player and fan.). I’m surprised at how many dogs named Cooper I’ve heard of since then.

  6. our calico cat is “Spotty” who we recently took on a daunting car trip to Florida & back ! From NE!
    It was something to behold, we had to pass numerous big rigs & Spotty stood at attention on the wide dashboard that our car has & took in all these noisy metal monsters that she had never seen before !
    She looked as though all her instincts were telling her to run the hell out of there, but I must give her credit
    she stayed with it & indulged her curiosity to the max.
    (Excuse the pet name pun). Rest areas fascinated her too, “All these people getting out of cars & rushing somewhere then rushing back, her head was on a swivel. We got odd looks going through Toll booths. LOL

  7. My little dog is named Chiquita. She’s my watch dog. Every time I take her outside I need to watch to keep a hawk from carrying her away.

  8. I guess I need an explanation for the popularity of Bella.
    We inherited the elderly feline, Caboodles from a daughter; she had a brother named Kit (Carson), and they were Kit and Caboodles until a coyote intervened.

    Daughter now has an inherited Great Pyrennes/Lab mix with the name I would expect to be the #1 choice for big dogs–“Duke”. Name came with Dukie, but he will always be “Bozo” to me.

    Molly, decades ago our family had a wonderful Siamese (Fluffy Tuffy). She drove from Fl to Ca, flew to Hawaii, three years later flew back to Fl, flew back to Ca, drove to Fl, then to Ca, then to Va; where she became the victim of a hit and run driver on our very quiet neighborhood street. (Well she did not drive herself on those cross country travels).
    A wonderful traveler; a true Navy family cat.

    Neo one of the charming aspects of your site is the mix of the serious and the not-so-serious.

  9. Cats: Pearl and Prudence. Dogs: Rocket and Colfax. Horses: Raven and Rosey. People who follow trends in naming pets, let alone children, should not be allowed to vote.

  11. @oldflyer, sympathies on the loss of some of your pets, that is such a heart wrenching experience.
    When that happens I always console myself that
    “we gave them a terrific home when we had them” &
    honor their memory by acquiring another one ! Lots of people say never again after losing a pet but the new one can/will become just as unique, fun & special.
    Did your kitty earn frequent flyer miles ? LOL

  12. Cats: Grace, Eb (Ebenezer), Fluff, Joe, Buddy, Hagar, Larry, Blackie. No, I’m not a crazy little old cat lady, but I am married to a crazy little old cat man.

  20. Mohammad has jumped and leaped and bounded, like a dog in heat, for the top spot in boys names in England for 2014.

    Maryam is the biggest riser for girls, jumping 59 places to number 35, Nur is a new entry at number 29, while Omar, Ali, and Ibrahim are all new to the boys’ top 100.

  23. Speaking of which, that reminds me of a joke about, Mole-hammed:

    There was a papa mole, a momma mole, and a baby mole. They lived in a hole out in the country near a farmhouse. Papa mole poked his head out of the hole and said, “Mmmm, I smell sausage!” Momma mole poked her head outside the hole and said, “Mmmm, I smell pancakes!” Baby mole tried to stick his head outside but couldn’t because of the two bigger moles. Baby mole said, “The only thing I smell is molasses.”

  25. Molly, never fear. Several cats have come and gone since the much traveled Fluffy the Siamese-also horses, ponies and one long suffering, cat tolerant, dog–most lived long lives.

    Fluffy pre-dated mileage awards.

  27. Nine y.o. grey Weimaraner named Higgins and 1 y.o. blue Weimaraner named Cygnet. Our place is very popular with ducks, geese, swans, eagles, etc. so chaos ensues most days. I can’t imagine a happier place for a young gun dog to live.

  28. I had a Norwegian Forest Cat, who was found frozen to the shoulder if I-90/94 by my father. The cat lived another 18 years, and was named Lazarus, of course. I inherited Laz when my Dad died.

  29. Dogs in my life (so far): Moocho Poocho, Queenie, Pooh, Margot, Zephyr, Pumpkin, Tasha Tameka, Jesse James, Cosmo, Kirby, Dixie, Knuckles, and Rosie.

    I would like to have one more before I get too old.
