Iran: let’s make a deal — 35 Comments

  1. At the end of the day, what benefit could there be for the U.S. for any deal with Iran, leave alone the bad one we will undoubtedly get?

If we had a real leader, the first concession of Iran to get anything would be repudiate the call for the destruction of Israel… as opposed to just setting them further down the path of making it happen.

Polls say a significant majority of the country _supports_ this deal. Again, what’s in it for us? I understand the point about the Iranians no longer suffering under sanctions, just as the same argument is made for Cuba, but this doesn’t mean anything for us, and it is definitely a win for mullahs, who are, and make no mistake about it, our enemies.

Again, how does this in any way serve the interests of the U.S.?

  2. bombs bombs everywhere, and lots of matches to light the fuses… Russia says its willing to go to nuclear war to get the baltics, and threaten the west, and the libs think that russians are just bull sh*ting…
[tell that to the people that know them better]

everyone should be about as nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs…

  3. Congress can respond to this non-deal by pointing out that we have no business negotiating with Iran in the first place.

Iran can agree to unlimited inspections, without warning, anywhere in the country, backed up by military force… or we can strengthen the sanctions immediately. THAT’S what Congress should say.

Frankly, Iran has done more than enough in the way of casus belli already. In a real sense, Iran has done more than Iraq did in 1990… which was enough to cause U.S. forces to invade in 1991.

  4. ““If Congress kills this deal not based on expert analysis and without offering any reasonable alternative, then it’s the United States that will be blamed for the failure of diplomacy,” Obama said. “International unity will collapse.”

There it is in a nutshell. The message to Congress is, ‘do what’s right for the country and we’ll politically crucify you’. There are “times that try men’s souls” and this is definitely one of them.

Yesterday, on another thread, g6loq linked to perhaps the finest summary that I have yet read on this subject; “President Obama Must Not Complete a Disastrous Deal With Iran”

    I highly recommend it.

  5. Anyone so clueless as to believe the mullahs will honor any deal that will prevent them from putting a nuclear warhead on an icbm and/or into the hands of a proxy terrorist group has a brick for a brain. The boychild is brick free, he wants a nuclear iran that will punish the colonialists and the Jews that sold black Africans into slavery. So, no brick, just irrational hatred based upon dreams of his father.

  6. “Iran can agree to unlimited inspections, without warning, anywhere in the country, backed up by military force… or we can strengthen the sanctions immediately. THAT’S what Congress should say.” Daniel in Brookline

No. Iran has made steady progress toward nuclear weapons capability for years under the severest sanctions that we could get Russia and China to agree to, further sanctions will NOT stop Iran. All that sanctions have done and will do if continued is slow down the Iranians.

There never was a chance that the Iranians would sincerely negotiate. Neither diplomacy nor peace ever had a chance. Murderous, ideological/religious fanatics are NOT amenable to fact, reason or economic persuasion. All that can be done with such as they is to put them down hard, like the rabid dogs that they are… we have but one choice, we always had but one choice… attack them now with overwhelming force or wait to be nuked in a sneak terrorist attack.

There’s little doubt which we shall choose.

  7. Frankly, Iran has done more than enough in the way of casus belli already. In a real sense, Iran has done more than Iraq did in 1990… which was enough to cause U.S. forces to invade in 1991.

I’d estimate that at least close to half the world has a casus belli against Iran right now. The Iranians might not have an overt presence in all that many places. But it’s the opposite with covert influences. They’ve been tied to incidents in remote locations that really have absolutely nothing to do with Iranian interests – except for the one that involves blowing things and people up in order to kill a few more Jews.

  8. At least toto had the canine guts to pull back the curtain.

Ayatollah Soetoro is pulling down the curtain on pax Americana.

We are not the only players in this comic-tragedy.

Essentially the ENTIRE world has been given the go signal for atomic breakout.

Who remembers Napoleon after Hitler, Tojo, Stalin, Mao?

After Soetoro, all prior bloodbaths will be regarded as trifles… inconsequential, really.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basil_Zaharoff

The weaponeer of the ages was the basis for Zardoz — the 1974 SciFi film that had a floating head spewing weapons out upon the landscape.

With the ayatollah of rack and ruin, it’s atomics that are being handed out like chicklets — while small arms ammunition is being hoovered up from the outraged citizenry.

What more can a tyrant do?

  9. I just read that Reid has chosen Ben Cardin (MD) to replace Menendez on the Foreign Relations Committee. Cardin is no fan of Iran or Putin. If Obama pursues this blame congress for the failure talk, he may be getting even more resistance from Dems in Dem states.

OMT: If the ayatollah has cancer, what will happen to the Iranian leadership when he dies? What will happen to the agreement?

  10. “the agreement”

heh. There is no agreement. (Only look at Zarif right now saying the ClownDisaster is lying). But it serves many various someone’s purposes to make believe that there is an agreement. And it is not for us to know those various purposes. For we are judged fools.

  11. I put my money on the Israelis sabotaging any Iran nuclear capabilities. They’re way too smart for foaming at the mouth muslims stuck in the 7th century.

  12. Same deal as Wendy Sherman negotiated with North Korea. Sure kept them from getting a bomb. Oh, wait…….

  13. ‘It is a good deal,’ Obama said. ”

Only as long as it keeps the cell phone video of Obama and Kerry being used as party favors by the Iranian jocks off of YouTube.

  14. My aunt thinks Iran already had the bomb and all this “negotiation” is just a dining screen to keep us and the west occupied with something else while they roll it out.

    We are so $#@%-ing screwed.

  15. Funny you should liken this to Obamacare, Neo, since it certainly feels like the same kind of juggernaut that was used to cram a monstrous, unread bill through Congress. The lack of details, the idea that there can be a “comprehensive” solution, the trash talk about coming up with an alternate solution when all other ideas are disregarded, and so on.

I didn’t think there could be anything more comprehensively harmful to America than Obamacare – guess I greatly underestimated Obama’s mendacity.

  16. Lizzy:

At least for Obamacare he needed Congress. For this, he doesn’t.

  17. The ClownDisasterites themselves (in the person of Ben Rhodes) told the world that the capitulation to Iran was viewed in the inner circle as the foreign policy equivalent of the ACA. Don’t have to guess it or make it up, since as ClownDisaster himself reveals: The Iran negotiations have “succeeded exactly as intended.”

And the fruits of the negotiations will tell everyone what was intended, since ClownDisaster never makes a mistake.

  18. I think we have reached the point where mockery is nearly pointless. I almost wrote a joking comment the other day that when there is no agreement reached, this administration would simply announce that the sides had agreed to find an agreement. I am now living in The Onion.

  19. In a few days Obama’s victory lap will go the way of the Bergdahl celebration. Too many embarrassing questions will emerge, a number of democrats will feel obligated to not let their constituents get blown up, others will just look for a chance to hurt someone they never liked to begin with. In any event only hours after this magnificent breakthrough people are seeing it for what it is, a suicidal publicity stunt. We can imagine what will happen after a few weeks.

  20. I’ve got some dandy swampland here in Florida for anyone ‘buying’ this BS. So, the Sanctions are Buu-Byeeeeeeee at NO COST to the Persians.

Pinocchio-in-Chief and Pinocchio of State plus the drooling lefty MSM-Lapdawgs=A Shipwreck and Stab Through Israel’s heart.

    Loathsome. Despicable. Unforgivable.

  21. NeoConScum…

This travesty sucks in the entire planet.

When Bibi mentions that Iran is a threat to world peace — too many take that as a euphemism for Israeli parochial concerns.

Whereas Bibi means it: This atomic breakout will suck in the world, entire.

For those interested: read the Three Conjectures.

    http://belmontclub.blogspot.com/2003/09/three-conjectures-pew-poll-finds-40-of.html

Ayatollah Soetoro’s idea of world peace is ten tomcats in a bag, beaten vigorously.

  22. Well-played, sir. Obama completely out maneuvered Congress and the Constitution. That’s the new reality.

Law and liberty dismissed as the phantoms they are. And the people have voted for it, again and again.

  23. It seems quite simple to me; the West applies sanctions to Persia till they surrender. What does it cost us? The Persian economy is a little tiny affair in a global economy.

The only reason we don’t is that the American president is a muslim.

  24. I think the House and Senate can pass veto-proof legislation to renew sanctions and override the ‘framework.’ They should just do it.

  25. “I think the House and Senate can pass veto-proof legislation to renew sanctions and override the ‘framework.’ They should just do it.”

Sorry, that would require a House and Senate that had a majority of principled members that truly cared for the future of America. And leaders that understood the importance of the division of power between the 3 legs of government.
The lapdogs Boehener and McConnell traded their souls for power a long time ago. The majority of the rest of them just wants to talk the talk without walking the walk. Based on past performance, do you really expect anything to come from the House or Senate. Just like the IRS scandal – A lot of talk and no action. If they knew how to play hardball, funding for Justice would be held up until they started acting in a non-partisan professional manner. But I will not hold my breath waiting. 🙁 🙁

  26. This reminds me of that Archie Bunker episode that all the Lefties thought was so clever of them to think up.
You know they asked Archie how to stop airplane
hijackings? Archie’s response, “Give ALL the passengers
a gun”. Hmmm I wonder if this solution was embedded
    in John Kerry’s subconscious?

  27. Pruden (Washington Times) nailed it: ayatollah Soetoro has terminated the campaign to limit atomic weapons.

Bojangels can step and rap all that he may — but the OTHER players are now bound and determined to launch atomic programs.

    The Three Conjectures needs reading.

By this ‘negotiation’ the world has been set on fire.

Giving atomics to muslims is ruinous to all — and terminal for them.

A man-child that is hoovering up small arms ammo is spreading atomics across the planet like Chicklets.

    That’s just perfect.

    &&&&&

As for Putin, he’s just as insane.

The idea that muslims will attack America, yet never Moscow is bizarre in the extreme.

The MOST obvious gambit is to bring suicide atomics to Moscow — thence to have the super powers destroy each other.

    Doh!

BTW, the open ended research by Tehran will surely provide the mullahs with atomic mimicry.

No current atomic power wastes effort trying to make their stuff look like the other guy’s.

But Tehran will absolutely go down that road.

    It’s the Twelver in them.

  28. “The idea that muslims will attack America, yet never Moscow is bizarre in the extreme. The MOST obvious gambit is to bring suicide atomics to Moscow – thence to have the super powers destroy each other.” blert

So you imagine that if Moscow was hit with a nuclear terrorist attack, that the Russians would mistakenly then suicidally attack China and America?

Upon what basis do you ascertain that “open ended research by Tehran will surely provide the mullahs with atomic mimicry” sufficient to fool the Russians?

You imagine that the Mullahs think that China and Putin’s cabal are as motivated by political correctness as the West? Further imagining that the Mullahs think that both China or Russia would, despite the severest provocation (a nuked capital)… refrain from nuking Tehran, Mecca and every other Muslim capital?

Think again my friend, Reagan proved that the Mullahs are very aware of the nature of every other major power that Islam faces.

Though its true that Islam must eventually take on Moscow and Beijing, that day is far over the horizon of their political and ideological calculus.

  29. To borrow a phrase from John Lennon: Israel is the n*gger of the world.

Years ago when all this talk about Iran getting closer to having the bomb, I always assumed that if they did get it, the “international community” would sit on their hands and flap their gums until Israel would, out of the necessity to survive, take care of business as only they can. Then the “international community” would crucify Israel publicly but privately be completely relieved. I think this is even more likely now, except it seems the West is doing everything they can to precipitate this scenario, rather than trying to avoid it.

If the world avoids a nuclear war in the next decade, the recent re-election of Netanyahu will have been a crucial element.

  30. GB…

Then we must agree to disagree.

I’m NOT going to elaborate on how atomic attacks can be spoofed.

Clancy has covered the matter a little too much, IMHO.

    ConceptJunkie

With ayatollah Soetoro in the cockpit, Jerusalem must reckon with economic, military and propaganda retaliation from its foremost patron.

This is why we’re all slouching off to Tehran.

  31. blert…6:48am: A-F***ing-Men!!

It may very well be building to Armageddon. Maybe Bibi will take care of business—very likely with the unusual help of some hugely worried Arab states—sooner rather than later. Maybe he can pen a note to His Infantile Majesty Obama to the tune of: Thank You, Mr.President, for leaving Israel’s fate to its enemies and the dissing of our democracy by offering NO Seat at the Talks. Your cowardice can no longer be tolerated in turning the Middle East into a flaming ember. As I write this our forces are taking action to protect our people, our territory and the entire region. The Bunker Busters which the brave & honorable President Bush gifted to us in abundance are raining down on all hidden Iranian Nuclear Facilities while Fuel Air Explosives are vaporizing their major oil fields. Can you say Buuu-Byeeeee to the Supreme Leader, whom I just got confirmed word, was incinerated minutes ago. Thanks again for your unforgivable cowardice and, again say Buuu-Byeeeeeee to Mullah Ruled Persia. Let’s do lunch, Punky.
