Iran: let’s make a deal
Success! They’ve agreed to agree on something-or-other sometime or other, maybe by June 30:
International negotiators announced the framework for an Iranian nuclear deal Thursday, capping days of exhaustive and tense talks that blew past their original deadline.
The preliminary agreement allows all sides — the U.S., Iran and five other world powers — to continue working toward a final agreement by a June 30 deadline.
Speaking in the Rose Garden shortly after negotiators unveiled the plan in Switzerland, President Obama called the agreement a “historic understanding.”
“It is a good deal,” Obama said.
With the framework, Obama may soon face congressional critics concerned about the direction of talks. But the president urged Congress to consider it, and stressed that negotiations are not over yet. He claimed the framework, if fully implemented, would prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon.
“This framework would cut off every pathway Iran could take to obtain a nuclear weapon,” he said.
Secretary of State John Kerry, earlier, tweeted that all sides had the “parameters to resolve major issues” and will soon get back to work on a “final deal.”
“Big day,” he tweeted.
Oh, big big big day. Peace for our time. If you like your doctor you can keep it. Whatever could go wrong?
And the beauty of it is, since we have no knowledge of what a final deal would look like, we can’t really criticize it, can we? Sort of like a blank check, or picking one of Monty Hall’s curtained prizes, sight unseen.

My prediction, for what it’s worth: a big to-do will be made about the historic deal. But this is a cover for the fact that no real agreement was reached. Both sides have a huge interest in convincing their own public that they won great concessions and that the talks have been a success. They will be described that way by both sides, as will any agreement in June, if it is reached. Nothing important will be done to effectively stop Iran, which will be able to assemble a bomb in short order any time it wants. In fact, I suspect it already can do so pretty quickly, even without this agreement.
Obama wants to put Congress between a rock and a hard place. How can they react to a deal that is not a deal, but just a description of how wonderful the deal will be? But if they try to stop it, they will be blamed:
Obama warned leaders of Congress not to stop the deal. “If Congress kills this deal not based on expert analysis and without offering any reasonable alternative, then it’s the United States that will be blamed for the failure of diplomacy,” Obama said. “International unity will collapse.”
So, there you have it.

At the end of the day, what benefit could there be for the U.S. for any deal with Iran, leave alone the bad one we will undoubtedly get?
If we had a real leader, the first concession of Iran to get anything would be repudiate the call for the destruction of Israel… as opposed to just setting them further down the path of making it happen.
Polls say a significant majority of the country _supports_ this deal. Again, what’s in it for us? I understand the point about the Iranians no longer suffering under sanctions, just as the same argument is made for Cuba, but this doesn’t mean anything for us, and it is definitely a win for mullahs, who are, and make no mistake about it, our enemies.
Again, how does this in any way serve the interests of the U.S.?

Congress can respond to this non-deal by pointing out that we have no business negotiating with Iran in the first place.
Iran can agree to unlimited inspections, without warning, anywhere in the country, backed up by military force… or we can strengthen the sanctions immediately. THAT’S what Congress should say.
Frankly, Iran has done more than enough in the way of casus belli already. In a real sense, Iran has done more than Iraq did in 1990… which was enough to cause U.S. forces to invade in 1991.

There it is in a nutshell. The message to Congress is, ‘do what’s right for the country and we’ll politically crucify you’. There are “times that try men’s souls” and this is definitely one of them.

No. Iran has made steady progress toward nuclear weapons capability for years under the severest sanctions that we could get Russia and China to agree to, further sanctions will NOT stop Iran. All that sanctions have done and will do if continued is slow down the Iranians.
There never was a chance that the Iranians would sincerely negotiate. Neither diplomacy nor peace ever had a chance. Murderous, ideological/religious fanatics are NOT amenable to fact, reason or economic persuasion. All that can be done with such as they is to put them down hard, like the rabid dogs that they are… we have but one choice, we always had but one choice… attack them now with overwhelming force or wait to be nuked in a sneak terrorist attack.
There’s little doubt which we shall choose.

I’d estimate that at least close to half the world has a casus belli against Iran right now. The Iranians might not have an overt presence in all that many places. But it’s the opposite with covert influences. They’ve been tied to incidents in remote locations that really have absolutely nothing to do with Iranian interests – except for the one that involves blowing things and people up in order to kill a few more Jews.

I just read that Reid has chosen Ben Cardin (MD) to replace Menendez on the Foreign Relations Committee. Cardin is no fan of Iran or Putin. If Obama pursues this blame congress for the failure talk, he may be getting even more resistance from Dems in Dem states.

The ClownDisasterites themselves (in the person of Ben Rhodes) told the world that the capitulation to Iran was viewed in the inner circle as the foreign policy equivalent of the ACA. Don’t have to guess it or make it up, since as ClownDisaster himself reveals: The Iran negotiations have “succeeded exactly as intended.”
And the fruits of the negotiations will tell everyone what was intended, since ClownDisaster never makes a mistake.
I think we have reached the point where mockery is nearly pointless. I almost wrote a joking comment the other day that when there is no agreement reached, this administration would simply announce that the sides had agreed to find an agreement. I am now living in The Onion.
In a few days Obama’s victory lap will go the way of the Bergdahl celebration. Too many embarrassing questions will emerge, a number of democrats will feel obligated to not let their constituents get blown up, others will just look for a chance to hurt someone they never liked to begin with. In any event only hours after this magnificent breakthrough people are seeing it for what it is, a suicidal publicity stunt. We can imagine what will happen after a few weeks.

Years ago when all this talk about Iran getting closer to having the bomb, I always assumed that if they did get it, the “international community” would sit on their hands and flap their gums until Israel would, out of the necessity to survive, take care of business as only they can. Then the “international community” would crucify Israel publicly but privately be completely relieved. I think this is even more likely now, except it seems the West is doing everything they can to precipitate this scenario, rather than trying to avoid it.
If the world avoids a nuclear war in the next decade, the recent re-election of Netanyahu will have been a crucial element.
