“The capitalists will sell us the rope with which we will hang them.” — 15 Comments

  1. To set the record straight: Iran has MULTIPLE commercially viable uranium mines.

They are so prolific that Iran has absolutely no need or desire to import yellow cake.

Amazingly, even Syria — pre civil war — had a commercially viable uranium mine — actually a secondary product of phosphate production.

    For those curious:

This forty-five minute lecture is widely informative — and is worthwhile for anyone trying to get their heads around strategic materials/ metals.

Because it’s on YouTube, one is free to leap ahead and poke around.

it will surprise most: but most of the biggest uranium sources are producing it as a BYPRODUCT. Amazingly uranium is (much) more common in the ground than copper. (!)

The deal with Uranium One is that Putin has been driving to control ANY alternative to his methane exports to Europe. THAT’S his angle.

Atomic power plants are — by a huge margin — THE single biggest threat to his natural gas exports on a sustained basis — that an Ukraine’s own natural gas fields.

Those are ultimately large enough to entirely remove Ukraine as a gas importer (from Putin) and to start displacing him as a vendor to Poland, Germany, and the Czech Republic!

    Yiikes!

  2. Yellowcake is not mined; it is produced by finely crushing uranium ore and leaching out the yellowcake, most commonly with an alkaline solution. It would be highly unusual to process ore to yellowcake on the owners property. So that bit in the quote stuck out like a sore thumb. And, IMO uranium on our soil should never be exported or even off shored for processing. Its a matter of national security and retention of a very valuable resource.

As far as the corruption of the clintonistas is concerned, this is merely White Water on steroids and the only surprise is the msm is actually reporting their greed and criminality.

  3. Just another episode confirming the futility of political/democratic involvement and, essentially, self-inculpation without mitigating circumstances. The investiture to high office is the making of future criminals — no less so than locking up the truant with the hardened criminals.

  4. Parker…

    Go to my link.

    Jump to the forty-minute mark.

You’ll discover that yellowcake is the usual and customary export from the mines. It does not take a whole lot of processing to produce yellowcake from the minerals.

If it’s a by product, then it’s just a side stream, liquids and solutions affair.

If it’s an in situ leach… it’s liquids and solutions, again.

If it, the ore, requires crushing and separation, the last stage of separation immediately shifts right on over to liquids and solutions.

The reason is that uranium just loves to go into solution if the water is oxidizing. This is done, wholesale, by the addition of hydrogen peroxide, or its equivalent.

This separation occurs quantitatively, cheaply, and is easily reversed by reduction.

Hence, every where you turn, the commodity that’s traded is yellowcake.

  5. Perhaps I misunderstand Neo here. In my opinion, the Clintons are leftists who enrich themselves by cashing in on “public service” and through so called crony capitalism. In other words the Clintons are on Lenin’s side against traditional capitalism which depends on a free and fair marketplace and on the rule of law.

  6. I realize yellowcake is the most commonly traded form of uranium and that the process is a simple procedure , but what land owner would agree to processing on his property? I am very pro nuclear energy, but if I had uranium ore on my Wyoming property I would not want ore processed on my property.

  7. Only last night I googled that “sell us the rope” quotation, and I found it attributed to Karl Marx, not absolutely and utterly verbatim, but the identical sentiment.

I wonder with whom it actually originated?

  8. Did I dream this or is it a fact that while in office Clinton allowed a heavy money contributor to sell sensitive technology to the Chinese that allowed them to produce submarines with silent running engines, thus putting our Navy at risk.

  9. Dennis has the right of it. Hillary Clinton is not a capitalist, rather she is a leech, a parasite. The uranium fiasco is an indication that she may also be a traitor.

  10. GB…

    The polite term is whore.

    Al W…

You’re conflating the Toshiba debacle (5-axis machining centers (that produce the trick, silent, propellers) to the Soviets) with Bill Clinton’s sale of hyper critical launch technologies to the Red Chinese. (A slew were involved: Loreal, Harris, et. al.)

Clinton solved Beijing’s missile launch blues — their stuff kept blowing up on the pad.

He also solved their targeting blues — drastically improving their final aim — the end result being the exclusion of the USN from Chinese waters — as in the next 5,000 kilometers.

And, of course, this is the same Clinton who sent not-so Albright to Kim and ‘negotiated’ that terrible atomic deal that has blown up — and become the basis for the new fiasco of today: Barry’s baby.

    &&&&&&

Lest we all forget: Bill Clinton was taking America to war — both in Haiti — the walk over…

    And against North Korea.

In BOTH cases Jimmah Carter intervened — and Bill has never gotten over him. Hence, they almost never stand on the same stage together.

    &&&&&&&

The MASSIVE Korean build up as a prelude to a massive air campaign against North Korea was personally witnessed — by yours truly — from Hawaii — and it was spectacular.

The ENTIRE USAF strategic airlift was dedicated towards shifting massive numbers to Korea — night and day — days on end — a full C-141 or C-5A every few minutes — a sky carpet flying in one direction only: the far east.

Their return (empty) legs were too far north to be witnessed from Hawaii.

At the time NONE of this hit print. It was totally censored.

It was THIS that triggered Jimmah Carter’s trip to Kim and he got Kim to agree to a deal — ONLY because a massive air campaign was about to begin against him.

Kim died within months, leaving his family estate (North Korea) to his son.

So, obviously, Kim was in no good health to manage a life or death struggle against what would’ve been a repetition of Desert Storm — but without the tanks.

Jimmah Carter totally stole Bill’s thunder and is — AGAIN the reason we have Iranian blues.

Carter – Soetoro … which will gain the title the Buchanan of the modern era?

  11. Was there ever a civilization that did not progress to a state of decadence and corruption?

Just because the Marxist derivatives mark a dysfunctional convergence, does not imply that we should adopt their minority model and designed monopolies proactively. The unprecedented blood, tears, and clumps of cells that lay in their wake suggest that left-wing ideology is often a wicked solution to a wicked problem.

  12. While the NRC has their own licensing, I would expect that dual-use uranium ore or yellowcake to be on the US Munitions List to require an export license from the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, uhm, an agency of the US State Department.
