I’ve developed even more respect for Kirsten Powers — 28 Comments

1. Kirsten Powers also has very strong views about the disastrous problems of Obamacare. She has seemed outraged at Obama’s duplicity. Also, she apparently recently became an Evangelical christian.

All in all, a very interesting person. A young (relatively) Liberal who has seen the light in many ways. Fascinating.

2. if they believe the * facts have a liberal bias* then their thinking is incredibly shallow which I guess is borne out by what is going on these days. The Left of all ages high school students through SS recipients have to be protected from
*trigger points, a conservative opinion, white privilege, shame ing, alleged racism, sexism, ageism, non PC remarks etc. On the Left everyone is a delicate
flower !

3. But she asks an excellent question: “…[D]oes anyone actually believe that had he not made the donations, the interview would have gone differently?”

Yeah, but since he did make the donations, and then tried to pretend as if he were an objective journalist while interviewing the author, he can be officially busted instead of merely accused. That’s important, and it’s why ABC is a bit of a pickle, ala NBC and Brian Williams.

4. Like Juan Williams, she can always backoff and go back into the fold.

She hasn’t had a loyalty test yet.

5. …She may have already burned some of her bridges…

Too polite a choice of words. It is blood sport. It is a religion.
Being nuanced and polite will get us killed.

Sparta defeated Athen.

6. Powers seems to be constantly balancing her professed unabashed liberal views with what she finds wrong with fellow liberals and the current thought process of Democrats. I could see how this is problematic for her, as she continues to piss off the party-liners by doing such “egregious” things as supporting Pam Geller’s right to free speech, speaking out about liberal bias on college campuses, and taking a Christian, pro-life stance concerning reproductive rights. She was recently asked on Twitter if she might be leaning more “right” or would she change parties and she said “not a chance, it’s never come to mind.” Tell that to her fellow party members that demonize her; she realizes that any dissent in thought means you’re a racist and a bigot, but perhaps it is her idealism of days gone by that keeps her card-carrying Democratic party status active.

7. G Joubert:

She identifies as a liberal and votes as a liberal (as far as I know). And have you ever heard her on illegal immigration? She is not just a liberal, she’s a bleeding heart liberal.

She also has some conservative stances. But someone who votes as a liberal is a liberal for all intents and purposes.

8. Maybe she’s a Hubert Humphrey Democrat. An honest liberal. A pretty much extinct species.

9. “they have mistaken their ideological belief system for truth.”

Now, THAT is the truth.

10. Side Note On Kirsten: She’s DDG*.

*Drop Dead Gorgeous.

She might soon be ready to come on over from the Dark Side. The Pile-On, Sliming and Smearing from those high-minded Lib-Lefties might just give the girl into our sensitive Neocon arms.

11. Well, it will be interesting to see whether she continues her journey, or whether she does a U turn. If she has become Christian and pro-life, it is a little hard to see how she can abide the modern Democrat Party, and the social progressives. Of course she may evolve into a social conservative- big government hybrid.

I had little use for her commentary, but I will take note.

12. “Like a fish doesn’t notice the water, today’s mainstream journalists are impervious to their bias in favor of Democratic candidates or liberal issues. They believe they are being objective because they have mistaken their ideological belief system for truth.”

Why, yes, Kirsten! They were so impervious to their bias that that must be the reason why they put together the Journolist!

Let’s get real. No leftist cares a whit about being objective. They’ll use truth, lies, puppy dogs or whatever they can to promote their agenda.

While it may be nice to see Kirsten write about media bias, it’s a distraction, that’s all. She admits to their lesser sins but won’t admit to their larger sins, let alone their true motivation.

13. I’ve happened to notice her, even though I don’t watch the tube. Then again, television is everywhere these days. Anywho… I get the feeling that she is about to fall of the stupid wagon. It’ll hurt, she’ll lose more than she has already lost, it’ll be tentative initially.

Actually, as I’ve seen her the last few years, she seems to be trying to add and crack the numbers, legitimately seek truth, and seems sincere. That only leads in one direction. After reading here for years, I keep thinking of you when I see her. Her ego is all that stands in the way, I think… and fear. Women have much more fear, I think. Not sure if there is enough time left on the clock is all.

14. Amoral. Opportunistic. Narcissistic. Have people who cling to the levers of capital and control ever been different? Without competing interests to keep the honest people honest and prevent others from running amuck?

15. To some extent, I agree with Yamaskar. I have also seen her argue liberal talking points on things like mass illegal immigration where her mind has shut out any possibility to hear the other side’s argument. She’s emotionally attached to some issues and defends them without leaving room for a possibility there’s a middle ground. And then, there are times like this, where she surprises the hell out of you with objectivity, and has the courage to speak up. Definitely a rare liberal in these times, whatever you think about her.
Another regular on Fox News that occasionally strays from the party line, is Julie Roginsky. They both have a sense of humor too, which qualifies them as normal people in my mind, and it’s nice to see they can laugh and joke once in a while, and not use every second of face time as an opportunity to spew out talking points to provoke viewers and guests.

16. I believe it was Hugh Hewitt who recently asked her if she’d be voting for the Hildabeeste. This gist of her answer was that yes, she’d vote for Hillary while holding her nose.

17. While it may be nice to see Kirsten write about media bias, it’s a distraction, that’s all. She admits to their lesser sins but won’t admit to their larger sins, let alone their true motivation.

The Left could purge her hard if they wanted to. The fact that they do not speaks volumes about her importance on the world stage. The Left often does need people to cover for them by criticizing the Left and then pointing out “see, they criticize us too, we’re not biased or bad” and in this context, there’s not a lot of MSM people with the guts to do so, to provide that cover fire. They’ll bomb the hell out of their enemies and the villages full of children, but their Messiah doesn’t need cover fire, they think. They think he’s got a magic vest that stops attacks with his “guns and knives”, bringing them to the fight, getting in people’s faces.

She’s emotionally attached to some issues and defends them without leaving room for a possibility there’s a middle ground. And then, there are times like this, where she surprises the hell out of you with objectivity, and has the courage to speak up. Definitely a rare liberal in these times, whatever you think about her.

That kind of mental instability is normal for people trying to use mortification of the flesh or Willpower to crush their own identity. It’s like slitting your own wrist, in slow motion. There’s need for breaks in between. There needs to be a rock, some stability. I’m sure she questions herself often about why she has transformed into this raving lunatic, as her friends and family will so often tell her. In the dead of night, she must wonder if she has been brainwashed or body snatched by the “Conspiracy” of Right wingers. So she needs something to comfort herself with, immigration may be it.

Soviet defectors often wrote about their journey to truth, how whenever they found something bad about Stalin, they would go back and place their faith in Lenin. Then when Lenin is found to be as bad, they go back to Marx, saying the recent men were mortal and corrupt, but the founder is pure, must be pure. They must find something to attach their beliefs to. Something, someone, as they begin the transformation stage. As their conscience regenerates.

18. She has to maintain her liberal bona fides in order to remain employed at the highest paid gig by far she’s ever had in her life, Fox News. Everything she says has to be filtered through that lens. She also claims to be a pro-life born-again evangelical Christian. If all of her claims to what she believes are true, the cognitive dissonance would be overwhelming.

19. Her Christian influence was largely brought about by her recent (2 yrs. ago?) relationship with a Christian man. Not certain of the status of that relationship, however, it did rock her world.
Her parents, both secular educators in the university system were aghast at her decision to pursue Christianity.
I admire the decisions this woman has made in the areas of religion and exploring Liberal bias in journalism. That said, she continues to maintain an emotive element regarding Liberal social issues. In listening to her, it is still hard to digest, her bent towards many Progressive notions.
As my friend NeoConScum suggests, she is s tall cool glass of water on a very hot day.

20. Clarity…I, Mister Generous, forgive her those Lib opines. DDG* and legs like a Greek Goddess… Gawd, it’s good to be shallow. Aaahhhhhh….

21. Take a deep breath & relax guys, you can be in the running, she is no longer with her ME Christian SO & once upon a time she even dated Anthony Weiner !

22. Oy, Molly, that Anthony Wee-Wee news is like getting a bucket of ice water in my mug. That and the tiny Sicilian Firefly who lights up my WASP Life. ((-:

23. Most of us *girls* have a dating skeleton in our closet. LOL.
I was so mortified eons ago when the handsome guy I was dating (& eventually married) were paid a visit at our table by the 5’6 98lb guy who rode a motor scooter, that I just *happened to know* Yikes !

24. Since Liberalism is a mental disease, this could mean she’s getting better. When her Spiritual Immune system kicks in she will know who the true pathogens are and act accordingly.

25. And as to her dating Weiner schnitzel, he may also have been a huge influence pushing her to the right.

26. Kirsten Powers, as quoted: “They believe they are being objective because they have mistaken their ideological belief system for truth. As New York Times columnist Paul Krugman has noted repeatedly, “The facts have a liberal bias.””

It’s not a mistake. It’s the paradigm shift of activism.

In the Narrative contest for the zeitgeist of the activist game, narrative is elective truth and the truth is just another narrative that must be competed for like any other.
