I had a post on Carly Fiorina today, and so here’s one on Hillary Clinton. Equal time.

it occurs to me that Hillary’s got some very odd fashion tastes.

Now, I know it’s hard to grow older in the public eye (not so easy in the private eye, either). We who are of a certain age remember Hillary as a fairly young woman from almost twenty-five years ago, and the difference between a woman in her early-to mid 40s and one in her late 60s is formidable. It’s not just the face (although there’s that), but also the body. There is a certain almost inevitable thickening, especially around the waist, even in those most assiduously devoted to working out.

Thus, I have nothing but sympathy for Clinton in that regard.

But why, oh why, does she choose so many awful and really strange outfits? I’m not just talking about the ubiquitous plain pantsuit; I’m talking about bizarre duds. Is she easily bored? Does she simply not have a clue what to do? Does she have a stylist? She certainly could afford one. Or is her stylist nuts?

Case in point: what is this? Chutes and ladders?

Those are not just bad outfits for Hillary. Those are bad outfits for anyone, anywhere.

[NOTE: Yes, I know this post is frivolous. In my opinion, it’s not frivolous enough.]

  1. I think she got those for free, probably solicited the garments on her world touring as SoS.
    I believe I read somewhere ( was it here ? LOL)
    that she admired some carpet over in China & proceeded to email some assistant that
    *they needed to find some way to get that carpet back to the US* not as a purchase of course, but as a donation !

  4. I admit to assessing outfits all the time. So often I’m thinking, “Wow, if only they did this or didn’t do that.” My daughter is a fashion designer, but even before that we always loved getting a magazine after an awards show and critiquing the outfits. My daughter helped me in the past (and still does on occasion) and it has always amazed me how helpful it is to have a “professional” assess your clothing. They see things. I’m in the process of choosing a dress for my son’s wedding next year. I tried on 4 dresses for my daughter Monday night. Once again, pointing out things I didn’t notice.

  5. Agreed on all points! But I think it goes back to Rodham’s indifference (at best) to what men find attractive, and defiance about same. 😉

    Interesting outfit. I just ordered a dozen, because I have a couple of antique ceiling fixtures I am angry about being forced to rip out to install a New Ugly one with a New Ugly Light.

    Now, after two decades in the public eye, Mrs. Clinton must try to show voters a self-effacing, warm and funny side that her friends say reflects who she really is. In short, she must counteract an impression that she is just “likeable enough,” as Mr. Obama famously quipped in 2008.

    As the campaign’s presumptive deputy communications director, Ms. Schake will be behind the effort to transport the Hillary Brand beyond paid campaign television ads, policy discussions and the requisite sit-down with a nightly news anchor.

    The daughter of a stay-at-home mother and a commercial airline pilot from Sonoma, Calif., Ms. Schake is best known for finding ways to communicate with Americans outside the coastal elite – a perspective Mrs. Clinton, who lives in Chappaqua, N.Y., and regularly commands a speaking fee of more than $200,000, will need.

    Ms. Schake, who declined to be interviewed for this article, first learned what resonates with a mass American audience from the man best known for “All in the Family” and “When Harry Met Sally.” In 1998 the actor and director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, hired her to help with their push to pass a ballot initiative that would add a 50-cent tax to each pack of cigarettes sold in California to fund early childhood education.

    Mr. Reiner said Ms. Schake consistently reminded him not to veer from the predetermined script, which had an almost cinematic simplicity. “Every step of the way it was ‘the good guys are fighting the bad guys,’ ” Mr. Reiner said in an interview. “It was, ‘Do you want to support big tobacco or do you want to support little children?’ ”

    Unlike you little people, Clinton does not dress herself… ie. everything is concocted from other people… a stylist for clothing a write for wording, and on and on it goes… a tiny army of others who spend their time tuning the perceptions of viewers by playing with the inputs.

    so, in terms of that outfit…

    She is not wearing it for the oldsters that know her, she is wearing it for the young people who grew up on things like Spongebob and Square Pants, who think life is fun and so on.

    Susanna Beverly Hills does the pantsuits and now i think she is using Nina McLemore…

If Hillary weren’t power mad, she’d have grandchildren old enough to keep her from wearing atrocious “grandma sweatshirts.” But since no one is allowed to speak up to Clinton, we’re forced to endure the pricey, pretentious, job-site equivalents. Impossible to imagine a gaggle of happy children swirling at Clinton’s side on the way to the library, park, or YMCA pool, and what a tragedy that is for her; although not for us. Hopefully her palpable disinterest in actual human beings makes it less likely Americans will return her, her Stepford Daughter, and her Serial Abuser Husband to the White House.

    Oh, and BTW, this post is NOT sexist because it is making fun of Hillary’s taste in clothes.

    Many other folks – the MSM included – mocked Palin and her family’s clothes. Many others made fun of how young Ryan looked – sort of the same with Quayle – and that they shouldn’t be so close to the oval office since they were still “wet behind the ears.” And who can forget Reagan’s great response to the debate moderator when asked about his age!

    So, if Republican candidates, both male and female and their families, can be outright and nastily mocked by the MSM for their ages and their sense of fashion; then go for it on Hillary.

    After all, her and Bill’s minions went for the jugular on Bill’s mistresses when they tried to come forward. Hillary deserves every clump of mud that can be thrown at her, even if it is “frivolous.”

    Considering that HRC is richer than Carly, it is remarkable how much nicerer Carly’s clothes are.

    Carly has class. Hillary does not.

  18. I have a personal stylist/shopper at Nordstrom’s. She’s free (she gets the commission that they all get) and she dresses me for work perfectly. Believe me – my Nordie’s outfits are a small percentage of my work clothes, but I wear them more frequently. I’m tempted to do a cost per wearing, but almost feel that’s a justification for pricier digs.

    I’m sure she could turn Mrs. Clinton around in no time.

  19. The pants suits have never really bothered me. She’s not a fashionplate and she’s found a style with which she’s comfortable. I’m fine with that. Though that is a remarkably silly pants suit. What irritates me is the hair. So many awful styles! That straight pulled back style while she was Secy of State, especially. Perhaps she was trying to pass as someone else. If she’s going to do generic mid-life pantsuit lady, she should stick with generic mid-life hair helmet. Like the one in the photo, above.

    I think her style (or lack thereof) is part of her overall shtick “women are evaluated on their appearance and I’m not buying into that I’ll wear whatever I like yada yada yada.”

    Well when you step out in a chutes and ladders jacket (perfect description Neo) people (especially women) notice and note accordingly whether you have their vote or not.

    I think Hillary generally lacks a basic fashion sense, but that can be remedied. Hire a stylist! Get Nancy Pelosi’s if you can. I know Pelosi is filthy rich but so is Hillary (we know how much she charges per speech).

  24. She has always been a appallingly bad dresser. This lady has no ability in that regard. Fascinating really. Usually people that well known by now, have it down. the above examples are just bizarre. I’ve never seen a professional woman wear such terrible clothes. She obviously picks them out herself. It’s quite interesting actually.

  28. Yes – agree that the Hildabeast should just hire Nancy Pelosi’s wardrobe stylist. About the only nice thing I can bring myself to say about San Fran Nan is that she has always looked perfectly turned out, in lovely, professional-woman and understated styles that flatter her, with beautifully coordinated accessories.

Yep, years ago we used to call the older pantsuit ladies the 5 m’s, Middle Age, Menopausal, Middle Management, Mafia and you dare cross them if you were in management, especially if they were part of your staff. Perhaps that is what her handler’s perceive as a powerful woman image attractive to voters.

    It appears as if she is doing a camo job on hips, thighs and ankles and maybe doing it well using outfits that look a bit as if they were made by an expensive, high end, upscale awning company.

    As for her make up and hair, that is some top dollar, done often, color work on her hair and Clinton’s makeup looks as if they have found a combination application of Silly Putty and industrial spackle and along with some high end ‘nip n tuck’ it kind of works well for the camera.

    If Hillary were an unknown and a moderate conservative I might suppose her physical presentation would be more than adequate however we know her history. Much of the nation associates her malevolent, malicious, mendacious behavior with her appearance therefore we have an immediate repulsion when we see and hear her and hope not too many people will want to see her win.

    I am also sorry to say that if a new age parapsychologist could see her ‘Aura’ it too would be rather creepy if not evil. I would post warning signs to keep small children and any animals I am fond of away from her just so they don’t piss her off and die.

    If she makes it through some real interview and experiences, interacting with the regular people and not the trained seals and then she wins the election it will be the most masterful marketing in the history of person kind.

    You are right that Carly has class. She also has beautiful clothes, and is a very rich woman as well.

    However, she has something else that’s very very important, fashion-wise: she has a beautiful figure for a woman of any age, and especially a woman of her age.

  35. Having read all the comments, I’m surprised no one has opined that she is so unhappy with what is inside, emptiness, she tries, via clothes, hairstyles, facial expressions, to mask that inner emptiness.
    I might say inner unhappiness, but certainly a dissatisfaction with self.

    Aaaand Cornhead, word on the street and everywhere else is that Hillary has her consolations elsewhere. For instance, the National Enquirer broke a story in April that it’s an open secret among the cognoscenti that Hillary is a lesbian, and that she and Bill have long had a marriage of mutual convenience; also that Huma Weiner is her lover.

    The sinister thing is that no one, No One, followed up on the story. When the Enquirer outed John Edwards’s affair and illegitimate daughter, there was some followup by other outlets. But on this? nothing.

    It would explain a lot, including Hillary’s acting as Bill’s chief of the “Bimbo Eruptions” squad, as well as her sticking by him throughout with no real signs of anguish.

I hope that the Repub candidate uses some wonderful video/sound of(for instance)her addressing a large black audience a few years back(probably ’08)in faux black patois+lotsa SHRILL!! Priceless. And, the always winning: “..at this point what possible difference can it make..?!” at the Benghazi hearing. And, so many, many others.

  49. I simply hope that, if Hillary gets the nomination, her Republican opponent will not pull punches — as McCain did in 2008 and as Romney did in 2012.

    One thing we know for certain, about this Presidential election — and every future one, for some time to come — is that the Democrats will fight dirty. It has worked for them, and they haven’t paid a price for it, so they will continue to do it.

    I don’t advocate that Republicans fight dirty in response. But they certainly should not leave their best ammunition home in the safe either!

    A Republican campaign against Hillary, in my humble opinion, should hammer again and again on failings that would be disastrous in any President —
    – she’s a bald-faced liar.
    – she’s mean and vindictive, and has no qualms against destroying the lives of those in her way.
    – she left employees of hers, including a U.S. Ambassador, to die horribly — and then lied about it.
    – she has no legislative victories to her name, and her foreign-policy “accomplishments” are embarrassing at best.

    Hillary seems to have a smart strategy right now — every time she talks, she hurts her own chances, so she’s staying out of the limelight as best she can and taking NO unscripted questions. (Naturally, she’s lying about it, and making it SEEM as though she’s being open, when in fact she’s anything but.)

    Therefore, it is up to the Republicans to do whatever they can to get her talking… and keep her talking.

We are viewing them through the prism of “what looks good?” Hillary may have cared about that as much as any other human being years ago, but that is far down the list now. If middle-aged women hate her outfits but still vote for her, then their fashion opinion becomes unimportant. What the vulnerable demographics will respond to is the key.

  61. Just because Hillary is aging and is overweight is no reason to dress so terribly. You can still create ‘shape’ with creative outfits. I just wish she’d wear a skirt or dress once in awhile. The endless parade of terrible pantsuits with the long jackets are horrible. Get a fitted jacket! It will actually give you a waist, Hillary!

    Wear a pretty scarf. It will draw attention away from the heavy hips and legs we all know you have beneath those pants.

    Use a belt once in awhile.

    How about some nice jewelry?

    I don’t get it. This woman has MILLIONS of dollars. Why would she dress so badly? It’ doesn’t make sense.

    If you watch enough makeover shows, even an overweight woman with no waist and cankles can dress in a more flattering way to create curves.
