Terrorist attacks in Brussels — 93 Comments

  1. My only regret is that if there had to be a terrorist attack it was common people who were killed in the terrorist attacks rather than the leftist political elite who have conspired with their Islamist partners to make the terrorist attacks possible. But of course that was probably part of the plan. It is ironic that Geert Wilders is on trial right and will probably be convicted by the leftist political elites because he has tried to stand up for the common Dutch people against the tyranny of the leftist/Islamist alliance.

  2. Get used to it – this is our future. At any moment the muslim next to you may decide today is the day to stab or blow you up, or run you down in a bus queue. All because you are an infidel.

  3. I’m going to just go ahead and repost in full here what I wrote at Chicagoboyz last November after the attacks in Paris:

Add me to a relatively short list of people on social media who are not making any particular gesture of sympathy and solidarity with the people of France who have been whammed for the second time in a year by the bloody-minded foot-soldiers of Islam. It’s not that I don’t care, and that I don’t feel the least shred of human sympathy for those people who went out for a drink and a good meal at a popular restaurant, a raucous rock concert, a soccer game, and then had their lives changed forever — if not ended entirely. It’s just that at this particular point in time, I am a bit tired of making easy feel-good, symbolic gestures about Islamic terrorism. Once you’ve made them … then, what for a follow-up?

I’ve so been to this rodeo before. 9-11. Beslan. The train bombings in Madrid. The bus bombings in London. The slaughter in the streets of Mumbai, and at the Boston Marathon finishing line. Westgate Mall. The murder of staff members of Charlie Hebdo, and the Jewish supermarket in Paris. Intifada without end in Israel. Und so weiter. I won’t even start on the list of bombings and slaughters across the Middle East; merely observe in passing that in those circumstances the usual Muslim suspects are slaughtering each other, rather than doing the business to outsiders.

The only thing more inevitable than the candle-light vigils, the moments of silence and the mounds of flowers piled up at the sites are the lamentations from the Muslim communities about the never-yet materialized anti-Muslim backlash. There comes a point where one gets tired of it all, of doing the same thing over and over, and expecting different results. There is a lack of seriousness about the problem of deliberate Islamic aggression in Western countries; an unwillingness to defend those values we have developed — sometimes painfully — over a long time; values such as freedom of speech and intellectual inquiry, a separation between the state and religion, a rule of law and not of the mob — one law, applied equally across class, race and sexual divides — and an unfettered press. This lack of serious intent is perhaps more marked in Western Europe, as it appears from various sources. The various no-go areas common to French metropolitan areas are not so firmly established in the US yet, and the mass sexual trafficking of vulnerable young women by Muslim men so recently demonstrated in places like Rotherham, England appears to have been landed on like a ton of bricks by civil authorities in the US. We are not — yet — being swamped by thousands of Middle Eastern faux-refugees arriving daily, as is happening in Germany.

But Beslan, Mumbai, Westgate, Charlie Hebdo … it will happen here, and probably sooner than later. Not all the candle-light vigils, moments of silence, and sorrowful hashtags and logos will prevent it. Only determination on the part of individuals and our leaders to do the difficult, the harsh and the necessary will do that.

  4. I hesitate to write this, because I don’t want to give them any ideas, but in fact I’m sure they’ve thought of this:

a bombing is for show. When the terrorists decide they really want to harm the west, they will use slower-acting but more deadly means. Imagine a half dozen Muslim terrorists infected with some dreadful disease moving through an entire subway, sneezing, coughing, spitting randomly. I hesitate to mention the disease, but there is one that has been so nearly wiped out that we in the west are no longer inoculated against it, yet is is still seen occasionally in one corner of Africa. Thirty deaths from bombs would be nothing compared to a mass disease outbreak. As it progresses people would fear traveling in subways or meeting in public places. The economy would be damaged (something we saw was an objective in the World Trade Center attacks), and hysteria would grow. Yes, the terrorists would lose their infective agents, but that happens with suicide bombers too — no biggie.

That is my real fear, and I think the only reason we have not yet seen it is that bombs have immediate and wide-spread effects while an effort to infect a large swath of the public would be slow and less dramatic. When they decide they want to kill their victims more than they want to scare them, we can expect this.

  5. Being neither happy nor pleased, thousands upon thousands of ‘Ismamphobes’ are exonerated of the charge of fearing Islam. It’s Moslems they justifiably fear. It’s Muslims in their midst they cannot countenance. It’s Mussulmans their societies, cultures, liberalism, cannot withstand. It’s Mohammedans who terrorize by their mere existence/presence. It’s Mahometans who are called five times daily to pray and to devote every other moment to Allah’s will, i.e., murdering, raping, maiming, molesting, conquering, looting, slaving.

Hey… you pointy headed, mush hearted, lily livered, civilization demolishing, Liberals/Progressives… make your own damn falafels.

  6. We need to rethink refugee resettlement and how we are assimilating anyone entering this country. In our history as a country we have halted refugee resettlement until assimilation could catch up. I live in Minnesota and we are letting a Molenbeek develop right under our noses and the “PC” crowd including our Governor shuts down anyone who raises a question or concern. When residents of St.Cloud,MN raised questions and concerns regarding the massive influx of Somali brought in by “Resettlement Contractors” they were told by Governor Mark Dayton “find another State” if you don’t like it.

Lets bring back the concept that America is a “melting pot” and back off this idea that we will be this beautiful “mosaic” of a society. Whatever happened to the idea of a common culture and values?

  7. F, that is precisely what I fear also. There have been signs that they, whoever they are, have been doing a few benign test runs. There is one country with a fanatical leadership and the means to develop such weapons that is biding its time.

  8. Sgt. Mom:
“I won’t even start on the list of bombings and slaughters across the Middle East; merely observe in passing that in those circumstances the usual Muslim suspects are slaughtering each other, rather than doing the business to outsiders.”

Except when you merely observe in passing the “usual Muslim suspects” competing against each other, you overlook their mutual slaughter of the Middle East’s Muslim reformers whose empowerment is the key to defeating the “usual Muslim suspects” over there. About that.

  9. If we had rational elites/leadership we would do the following:

—The Congress should declare that Islam is not a religion but a long standing totalitarian ideology. That will deprive our enemies of it’s cover as a religion.
–Ban all immigration of Muslims into the country. If that offends, just ban everyone from the 57 Muslim countries.
    –Deport all non-citizen Muslims.
–Close ALL mosques owned by NAIT.
–Deport all Imams with ties to Saudi Arabia.

Trump at least has it right in saying that Islam hates us. Yes it does. The Quran and Hadith define a totalitarian ideology who’s goal is to conquer and subjugate the world.

  10. I think we should back a Presidential candidate who would impose a ban on allowing any Muslims into this country until we develop some fool-proof method of deciding which Muslims are terrorists and which are not. And I don’t care if that candidate is politically incorrect. When my house is invaded by pests, I don’t care what the Orkin man looks like.

  11. Europe is in much greater danger than we are. Certainly, we should be alert not to copy its mistakes, but it’s no good trying to claim hardship here.

They may also have a greater percentage of terrorists and quiet abettors of terrorism in their immigrants than we do. Most muslims here are quite decent people. Crossing an ocean seems to favor those who would prefer to leave their previous country in the rear-view mirror. As it only takes a few to create great damage, however, I see no harm in being extremely cautious about immigration for the time being.

  12. Koronis:
“In our history as a country we have halted refugee resettlement until assimilation could catch up. … Whatever happened to the idea of a common culture and values?”

Agreed. Cultural assimilation is critical. Conservatives need to do better at delineating community-based culture and individual-based politics and pursuing both.

    Koronis:
“Lets bring back the concept that America is a “melting pot” and back off this idea that we will be this beautiful “mosaic” of a society. Whatever happened to the idea of a common culture and values?”

I favor a hybrid of the ‘melting pot’ and ‘mosaic’. Think of ads where a mosaic of individual photos are photoshopped so they’re all tinted shades of the same color and arranged into a coherent image.

My working community cultural (as opposed to economic or political) model is the military, which is a diverse ‘mosaic’ bonded by a ‘melting pot’ common culture and values. Of course, per your point, the military exercises control of its population entry, size, flow, etc, beyond civil society.

  13. Get ready for some your more likely to be hit by meteorite than terrorist attack from muslim … crap.

    Per obama

  14. A tragedy is a tree falling on a house during a wind storm and killing someone. This was no tragedy and calling it such is a symptom of a huge problem.

  15. In the classical sense, isn’t a tragedy when all parties act in good faith yet something terrible happens in spite of or as a consequence of the action?

  16. About a week ago, Michel Gurfinkiel published an article, at PJ Media, on the controversy over compiling statistics on the number of Muslims in France (http://tinyurl.com/zffxjnj).

I understand that Belgium isn’t France, and I admit to a weakness for demographic arguments, but this is the kind of information that has to known before we can even guess whether a war against jihad can be won in France — or Belgium.

Towards the end of his article, Gurfinkiel reports these telling numbers:

38.8% of French youths do not identify with a religion.
    33.2% describe themselves as Christian.
    25.5% call themselves Muslim.
    1.6% identify as Jewish.
    Only 40% of the young non-Muslim believers (and 22% of the Catholics) describe religion as “something important or very important” ;
But 83% of young Muslims agreed with that statement.

  17. Evil is, has never been, will never be, the bearer of tragedy. The routine apologies by Islamists and idiots (I repeat myself?) fail also to live up to what is required of ‘tragedy’. The apologies, explanations, assurances of Obama, Cameron, Merkel et al redound to evil as assuredly as Muslim murders. The order of importance is not easily evident – whether first you rid the premises of Muzzies or the far more treacherous ruling elites. Just start getting rid of them.

  18. Saw this on a newsite copied over from Twitter:

Eye-witness from #brusselsairport airport: after the first explosion people ran to get out, but in direction of second blast.

  19. F – perhaps that super-urgent shutting down of the DC subway last week was more than we were told?

  20. Couple of points:
Peaceful Muslims breed militant Muslims. See the difference in attitudes–surveys–between age groups on Britain, for example.

It doesn’t take much to put this sort of thing together. See the Tsarnaev duo.

The Symbionese Liberation Armt kept the Bay Area hopping for some time with maybe a dozen people.

In the name of whatever you hold holy, learn some drastic first aid. Not the splinter removal stuff and poison ivy treatments you learn in the scouts. Major bleeders and eviscerations, traumatic amputations, sucking chest wounds. CPR and AED training are good, but not for attacks like this.

If you think you have the personality for it, get trained and carry a firearm.

Keep in mind that the first Tsarnaev was caught because they’d hijacked a car and the driver left his cell phone on. The second was spotted by a householder OUTSIDE of the cops’ search zone. IOW, more than likely, it won’t be the law enforcement first on scene, whatever it is.

Lastly, there are three ways to die, moving forward, moving backward, sitting still. In any case, you’re dead. Pick your direction in advance.

  21. I don’t suppose it would do much good to suggest midnight basketball at this point?

  22. The hijrah has to be stopped.

BTW, our borders WRT Europe are wide open — documentation wise.

Once a fanatic is within Europe — it’s pretty easy for him to jump a jet and come to Detroit.

  23. One side is at war. The other side is trying very hard to pretend nothing is happening, hoping the bad guys will go away. Like victims of bullies often do.

  24. “The other side is trying very hard to pretend nothing is happening, hoping the bad guys will go away. Like victims of bullies often do.”

After watching the breaking news – where immediately after mentioning that shouts in Arabic were heard they said the motive was still unknown – I realized that it’s feeling a lot like we’re living in HG Wells’ far off future where the Morlocks occasionally surface to drag off Eloi while it barely registers with their fellow Eloi.

I’m like Sgt. Mom, so tired of the choreographed routine of these attacks, knowing full well that nothing will be done to prevent the next ones. Why bother joining in on the dance?

  25. AVI…”They may also have a greater percentage of terrorists and quiet abettors of terrorism in their immigrants than we do. Most muslims here are quite decent people. Crossing an ocean seems to favor those who would prefer to leave their previous country in the rear-view mirror. As it only takes a few to create great damage, however, I see no harm in being extremely cautious about immigration for the time being.”

Crossing an ocean really meant a sharp break with the past in the era before cheap jet travel, cheap international phone calls, and the Internet. Today, maybe not so much.

  26. Also, I keep thinking of the American Indian experience with mass immigration. A small number of white hunters & trappers and even some farmers, coexistence was possible, at least as much as with other Indian tribes. A large number of immigrants with a completely different culture and (mostly) with contempt for the indigenous people, a very different story.

I expanded on these thoughts at my post Two Views of Immigration:

  27. “But words are cheap, and solutions few.” neo

    There is NO palatable solution.

THE solution is simplicity itself, expel every Muslim from Europe.

That however would require abandonment of its leftist panaceas; socialism, multiculturalism and voluntary male castration. Liberal leftists base their sense of worthiness upon the embrace of those memes.

Expulsion would result in economic retaliation from the OPEC nations. It would greatly increase Europe’s energy dependence upon Russia.

To preserve the EU nation’s group identity, it’s leadership is willing to physically sacrifice the societies they rule. Future generations will curse both today’s leadership and those who elected that leadership.

“Get used to it — this is our future.”
    Backofanenvelope

For a while yes but then the gravely wounded, sleeping giant shall awake. As Samuel Johnson observed, “The prospect of being hanged focuses the mind wonderfully”.

    Sgt. Mom at 9:18 am,

When the wolves gather but have not yet attacked, none protest the presence of the sheepdog more, than the sheep who hide their moral cowardice, behind denial that the threat even exists.

F and The Other Chuck ,

A highly complex and interdependent industrial society’s greatest vulnerability lies in its networked infrastructure. Water supplies, food supplies, electrical energy grid, etc. etc. ISIS has already struck these elements in other countries like Yemen. It may have already conducted test runs here. It has not escaped ISIS, N. Korea, Iran or China’s notice that the most vulnerable society to this type of attack is America.

    Koronis at 10:05 am,

Assimilation is an anathema to multiculturalism.

“the Middle East’s Muslim reformers whose empowerment is the key to defeating the “usual Muslim suspects” over there.” Eric

The number of Middle Eastern Muslim reformers is so minuscule as to be statistically immeasurable. America ’empowering’ them has ZERO chance of success.

    Cap’n Rusty at 10:52 am,

There is no fool-proof method of deciding which Muslims are terrorists and which are not, as Islam supports lying and a Muslim engaging in prohibited behavior, when it serves Islam and protects the Muslim from discovery.

  28. Right now, I would like to hear SOME head of state say:

To all who are Muslim or of Middle Eastern background, please understand that you will be treated at the least with suspicion, if not outright fear and, perhaps, yes, hatred. This is not merely a natural reaction of ordinary people; it is a consequence of the repeated acts of murder and destruction perpetrated by those of your belief or background who move among us seeking to destroy our society. They are making war on you as well, and are showing their perfect contempt for those of you who do not share their desire for our destruction. They want to kill us and they want you to suffer as well. Please try to understand that this will be a harrowing period for you even if you are law-abiding and living as a citizen of this country. The sooner you act — through cooperation with authorities and through your vigilance — to root out this evil festering among you, the sooner this difficult period will end.

  29. Ralph Kinney Bennett,

“A man cannot serve two masters…”

A Muslim cannot logically embrace Islam, while simultaneously and sincerely embracing “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”.

Self-deceit is inescapably necessary to ‘resolve’ that which is fundamentally antithetical.

Which begs the question; at what point does the denial of willful blindness become complicity?

In 2012, 46% of Muslim-Americans admitted to supporting the implementation of Sharia Law for Muslims in America.

  30. Geoffrey Britain:

    You write:

THE solution is simplicity itself, expel every Muslim from Europe.

That however would require abandonment of its leftist panaceas; socialism, multiculturalism and voluntary male castration.

But it would also require abandonment of one of the pillars of Western policy for the last couple of hundred years—religious tolerance.

You may decide it’s worth it to try to expel all Muslims. That would mean, by the way, determining the religion of every person in Europe, including the native-born who converted to Islam, and expelling them—to where? For those who are foreign nationals, this would not be a problem, if indeed the countries would take them back and it could somehow be accomplished. For native-born Muslims, what do you do? What about those who dissemble and go underground, like the conversos in Spain after the expulsion of the Jews? I could go on and on and on with this, but you probably get the idea.

  31. Interesting relationship ISIS has with its god.

From the Daily Mail, the last line of ISIS’ statement: ‘In praise of Allah who has made our blows precise and helped us succeed. we demand for him to accept our brothers among the martyrs.’

A devout Muslim could make a demand of Allah?
Nothing in the statement about Mohammed, either.
    I guess Islam is evolving.

  32. Geoffrey Britain:

Plenty of people serve two masters. They do this by not serving one of the masters all that well. There are plenty of nominal Muslims in this country who aren’t especially devout (that’s the master they don’t particularly serve) and are good citizens who believe in “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” I personally know some of them.

  33. For heaven’s sake, Neo, stop with the “religious tolerance” bit. Will you also tell us Islam is a religion of peace?
    Islam is not a religion.

  34. Sgt. Mom is right on. The French and now Belgian citizens cry, leave their floral tributes and teddy bears, light their candles and gather at night. Where are the demands to their governments to stop the reckless and foolish adoption of Muslim refugees?

The US has withstood all the previous acts of Islam’s fanatics on our soil without unified demands for an end to our leaders’ tacit acceptance. Those who speak out are labeled racist, Islamophobic or xenophobic.

Obama says we can tolerate occasional acts of terrorism without our country crumbling. Yeah, but should we? I resent and refuse to accept the “new normal” designation of these cruel and barbaric attacks both here and abroad. We cannot accept a government that doesn’t fight tooth and nail to secure our safety.

  35. About using the word “tragedy”: Even Trump does it — his tweet an hour ago: “My heart & prayers go out to all of the victims of the terrible #Brussels tragedy. This madness must be stopped, and I will stop it.”

  36. Frog…

    Poor translation.

In Arabic the phrase would be a pleading.

The other famous screwed up translation:

Mohammed was never a ‘prophet’ in the Western sense.

By all Islamic legacies… Mohammed was an ORACLE.

Theologically these are two entirely separate concepts.

An oracle is a hyper-ancient concept — wherein a living human being enters a trance and while in that trance — is the very voice of the Spirits.

In the case of Mohammed, tradition has it that the Spirit was the Angel Gabriel.

As for prophet, Jesus Christ made a slew of prophetic declarations, and never entered a trance to reach the Spirits.

Moses also was prophetic… and never entered trances to reach the Spirits.

The entire basis for Mohammed’s street cred lies with his ORACLE status.

Until another (Islamic) oracle comes along to abrogate Mohammed’s utterances — Islam is locked on autopilot.

See Star Trek the original series, the Return of the Archons, for what such stasis might be.

  37. At some juncture, the West is going to severe trading links with the Muslim nations.

One can easily come up with countless scenarios.

The uluma is unique: it’s the only major population that is monumentally dependent upon food imports.

Yet it makes war upon its suppliers.

One of the driving forces in Syria — is the collapse in farming.

Erdogan triggered this when he trapped ever more (Tigris) water behind new dams in southeast Turkey. ( Yes, the Kurdish quarter. )

Assad countered this by drilling for fresh water — like mad.

The Syrian aquifer rapidly depleted — and set the table for the civil strife… (2011)

OPEC dares not embargo Europe — as the West would embargo food and technology in response.

    That’s escalation dominance.

    &&

The same dynamic tied Putin’s hands in Syria.

Turkey owns both keys to the Med and the Black seas.

So, there’s a real limit as to what Putin could get away with.

He can’t use atomics on Ankara.

The Donbass war is all that he can stomach.

  38. Recall Obama’s quote in The Atlantic that ISIS is not an existential threat to the US.

Compare that to Trotsky’s quote, “You may not be interested in war, but war is interested in you.”

I think Obama’s failure with ISIS and the other Islamist organizations constitutes “stupid shit.”

  39. Frog:

You know that religious tolerance is a long-held tenet of this country, and a more recent but nevertheless long-held tenet of Europe. Don’t pretend you don’t know that. I’m not making this up.

And don’t pretend you don’t know that I’ve been as tough on Islam and its fanatics as anyone. But it is also true that to many of its less-fanatic adherents, Islam is very much a religion and they want nothing to do with terrorism or terrorists. That is why this is such a big, big problem.

Simplifying the matter so that you believe that there is no such thing as the religion of Islam is incorrect. I refuse to do so to please the right as much as I refuse to cater to the left’s whitewashing of the very very real problems with a great deal of Islam and a great many Muslims.

  40. Blert

If the Global Warming crowd would let us develop our OWN natural resources, we could stop buying oil from OPEC.

  41. Why do we have to even deal with these Middle Eastern Muslims? Keep them out and stop buying oil from them.

Islam will NEVER be reformed. Centuries of killing Christians and Jews and also Sunni killing Shia. To borrow from President Obama’s remarks in Cuba, one might say that tribalism is in Islam’s DNA.

  42. Geoffrey Britain,
Your observation re “two masters” and the points that follow are thoughtful and correct. I am merely trying to make the point that our Western political leaders should be realistic about the dilemma the Islamic terrorists knowingly create for all Muslims. More importantly, they should “pre-school” all those hand-wringers and folks “of good will” whose first impulse in these situations is to worry about anti-Muslim “backlash.” As Ecclisiastes notes, there is a season for everything. This is definitely the season for profiling and stereotyping. For some strange reason I have found myself growing somewhat apt to be suspicious of the followers of the “religion of peace.”

  43. Consider the work of Richard Fernandez if you wish some serious thought regarding radical Islam and the rest of the world.

    Belmont Club at PJmedia.

“Even if Islam killed every non-Muslim on earth they would almost certainly continue to kill each other with their new-found weaponry. Revenge bombings between rival groups and wars between different Islamic factions are the recurring theme of history. ” from 2003.

    http://belmontclub.blogspot.com/2003/09/three-conjectures-pew-poll-finds-40-of.html

No easy solutions, even the ruthless “solutions.”

  44. Plenty of people serve two masters. They do this by not serving one of the masters all that well.

    Funniest thing I heard today
    They don’t serve two
You serve one and cheat the other of service
Or you serve neither and cheat them both

Your point is like being a little bit pregnant
Unless you think partial service is service
    Which it isn’t
But it sure does focus on the perp
And ignores the person served who is being cheated
    I guess it’s a liberal left over

From the perspective of the master denied it’s something else

Besides the original is a ship can’t have two captain’s
Which is what a person with two masters is under
It seems to work, as long as their desires dont conflict

Thanks for the huge belly laugh
Given what I’ve seen this is a woman thing
His can a woman be a feminist and a wife??
They can’t if you understand the leaders assertions!!!
Don’t mean that they don’t try
But when the conflict happens, oh the pain, confusion, and lack of peace…
    Guys get this much better
And live or die by it and their word
Anyone that thinks the other way can’t truly be trusted
As they don’t know which matter will win themselves
    Funny

  45. I would love to hear Obama or Kerry or Power explain this eternal war between Sunni and Shia.

  46. From Diana West:

As Brussels convulsed in bloody jihad on the morning of March 22, 2016, Ivar Mol, a meditation and yoga teacher, sent out this tweet:

Translation from the Dutch: “How can you continue teaching when Muslims in your class are cheering?”

A follow-up tweet from Mr. Mol

Translation: “Three police officers at my door because of my tweet this morning. Asked if I would be willing not to do it again.”

    http://dianawest.net/Home/tabid/36/EntryId/3294/Brussels-and-the-Police-State-of-Denial.aspx

  47. No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon

and as a nod to my feminist point, they end up loving the cause, and hating their mates… and the families are split assunder… because to accept the tenets of one, is to cheat the other… so you either accvept the tenet of family first, and cheat womenkind, or you accept womenkind and cheat your family…

there is no middle ground when the key points are mutually exclusive… like being married and working for the destruction of marraige..

and people wonder why there are no morals and such! ha! morals are consisten, and conflict of this type makes them inconsistent and situational in which one cherry picks what they want.

we recognize that the tenets of islam are incompatible with individual freedom… which is also the same for communism/socialism… which is also the same for feminism… and racialism…

in case you guys didnt notice, the left wins by promoting the ill of things… its unnocupied and so is wholly theirs. which is why they want constant change and no conservation, and such.

the left wants you not to be loyal

    if being prudent is good
the left wants you not to be prudent

then they say, we can fix the consequences of what you shouldnt do that we taught you to think you can do!!!

The trick is to wake up and realize that your saying and passing on the misery of the untruth!!! as that is how we learn, and that is how they have pissed in the well of societies knowlege!

you cant make the unworkable work, regardless of their teachings that its possible, or you can hedge it, or you can do it this way and think its the same (its a lie, and you dont even get that your lying and saying a lie and its not possible, but it sounds good to your feelings!!!!!!!!!!)

  49. This may well prove to be a never-ending struggle. In any case, we need to follow Israel’s example and get serious about security. But other considerations so far have taken precedence — from a piece in today’s Wall Street Journal:

The second attack in Brussels–targeting a subway station in the heart of the city–could also raise broader questions about how to secure lower-profile, public spaces around train and subway stations.

Airport security far exceeds that at major train stations, for instance, where passenger screening is rare. The Eurostar–the high-speed train that links London with Brussels and Paris–is among the few European routes where passengers are screened. France recently introduced passenger checks on some long-distance routes after a foiled attack last year by a heavily-armed gunman traveling between Brussels and Paris.

But the bottlenecks that aviation-industry officials have sought to avoid at airports make such screening even more problematic for train and subway stations, said Philip Baum, an aviation security authority. Despite targeted attacks against trains and subways across Europe, officials have resisted those measures.

  50. I was in Paris the first week of December and used the Metro every day. Every moment I was mindful of how vulnerable that location is. We kept a very watchful eye, but when it’s crowded, on the weekends, good luck!

  51. blert,

I have long thought that a blockade would quickly (6 months) bring all Islamic nations, except Indonesia, to their knees.

  52. neo-neocon at 3:05 pm,

It would require modification of how we define religious tolerance. Which btw, we already do with ‘cults’.

Any religion whose base tenets clearly state that violent destruction of any other beliefs or non-beliefs is a mandatory, theological imperative, obligatory upon every one of its adherents… has declared itself unwilling to extend the same tolerance they would demand of us. Tolerance is mutual, as singular ‘tolerance’ is really a form of masochism.

Had Hitler declared the Nazi party a religion and covered it in religious pretense would we have been compelled to acknowledge it as a religion? Hitler’s Nazism was and is a totalitarian ideology and so too is Islam. It’s religiosity is a pretentious facade and to pretend otherwise is to place Islam’s sword at our necks.

To expel all Muslims would only require determining the religion of every person in Europe… in a perfect world. As for the native-born who converted to Islam, they have their choice. Publicly reject Islam or… leave. Voluntarily or involuntarily, they leave.

Once expelled ‘out the gate’, where they go from there is their problem.

Harsh? Of course. Harsh choices are all that remain. This is what our denial has led to.

Expelling all Muslims, as painful as that would be, pales next to the pain that will otherwise descend upon Europe. It’s doubtful that Westerner’s can even imagine the brutality that Islam will visit upon the West should they prevail.

If foreign national’s countries won’t take them back, that’s their problem. A refusal to admit their own citizens does NOT make it ‘our’ problem.

“For native-born Muslims, what do you do?”

They have a choice, reject Islam and they can stay, if their master, Islam means more to them, fine. Then they have to leave, since by making that choice, they declare themselves unable to be a loyal member of a western society.

“What about those who dissemble and go underground, like the conversos in Spain after the expulsion of the Jews?”

Sure there will be some but coordinated attacks will be emasculated. No need to make perfect the enemy of good enough.

“Plenty of people serve two masters. They do this by not serving one of the masters all that well. There are plenty of nominal Muslims in this country who aren’t especially devout (that’s the master they don’t particularly serve) and are good citizens who believe in “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” I personally know some of them.”

This is not a case of, which is your favorite, baseball or football? Oh, I like both!

Western precepts and Islamic precepts are ‘oil and water’, i.e. utterly incompatible. Logically, you cannot simultaneously embrace Muhammad’s commands and Jesus’ beliefs.

It’s self-deceit to pretend otherwise and no sincere person of integrity can embrace “love thy brother as thyself” and “slay the non-believer”.

But someone who embraces Muhammad can tell themselves that they also honor Jesus.

Integrity cannot tolerate denial and self-deceit. Whereas self-deceit denies the contradiction.

And that applies to every moderate Muslim you know. And, the proof is that they know far better than you or I that were Muhammad here, he would condemn them. But they pretend to themselves most of all, that he wouldn’t.

This is the brutal truth we face and denying the irreconcilable differences will only make the brutality more severe.

  53. Geoffrey Britain:

But Islam does not meet that description in terms of how many of its worldwide practitioners practice it. There ARE many “moderate Muslims” who do not follow the strictest version of the faith.

I have written at length on the subject, for example here. Islam is a religion and not akin to Naziism.

  54. John Locke was one of the most influential philosophers in colonial America when our Constitution was written. Here is his definition of religious liberty and it’s limits.

““By this we see what difference there is between the church and the commonwealth. Whatsoever is lawful in the commonwealth, cannot be prohibited by the magistrate in the church. Whatsoever is permitted unto any of his subjects for their ordinary use, neither can nor ought to be forbidden by him to any sect of people for their religious uses. If any man may lawfully take bread or wine, either sitting or kneeling, in his own house, the law ought not to abridge him of the same liberty in his religious worship; though in the church the use of bread and wine be very different, and be there applied to the mysteries of faith, and rites of divine worship. But those things that are prejudicial to the commonwealth of a people in their ordinary use, and are therefore forbidden by laws, those things ought not to be permitted to churches in their sacred rites…”

This passage is found in John Locke’s Letters of Toleration. Here is the link

    http://oll.libertyfund.org/titles/locke-the-works-vol-5-four-letters-concerning-toleration?q=Whatsoever+is+lawful+in+the+commonwealth%2C+cannot+be+prohibited+by+the+magistrate+in+the+church#Locke_0128-05_58

He also placed limits on religious liberty.

“But to come to particulars. I say, First, No opinions contrary to human society, or to those moral rules which are necessary to the preservation of civil society, are to be tolerated by the magistrate. But of those indeed examples in any church are rare. For no sect can easily arrive to such a degree of madness, as that it should think fit to teach, for doctrines of religion, such things as manifestly undermine the foundations of society, and are therefore condemned by the judgment of all mankind: because their own interest, peace, reputation, every thing would be thereby endangered.⚓✪

Another more secret evil, but more dangerous to the commonwealth, is when men arrogate to themselves, and to those of their own sect, some peculiar prerogative covered over with a specious show of deceitful words, but in effect opposite to the civil rights of the community. For example: We cannot find any sect that teaches expressly and openly, that men are not obliged to keep their promise; that princes may be dethroned by those that differ from them in religion; or that the dominion of all things belongs only to themselves. For these things, proposed thus nakedly and plainly, would soon draw on them the eye and hand of the magistrate, and awaken all the care of the commonwealth to a watchfulness against the spreading of so dangerous an evil….For what do all these and the like doctrines signify, but that they may, and are ready upon any occasion to seize the government, and possess themselves of the estates and fortunes of their fellow-subjects; and that they only ask leave to be tolerated by the magistrates so long, until they find themselves strong enough to effect it?

    http://oll.libertyfund.org/titles/764#Locke_0128-05_74

Again: That church can have no right to be tolerated by the magistrate, which is constituted upon such a bottom, that all those who enter into it, do thereby ipso facto deliver themselves up to the protection and service of another prince. For by this means the magistrate would give way to the settling of a foreign jurisdiction in his own country, and suffer his own people to be listed, as it were, for soldiers against his own government.

    http://oll.libertyfund.org/titles/764#Locke_0128-05_76

According to Locke, Islam does not qualify for religious toleration.

  55. People familiar with John Locke may argue that he did at one time mention that a Muslim who followed his rules could have religious tolerance and then he turned around and argued that Muslims who are committed to the caliphate which was at that time in Turkey were not entitled to religious freedom.

That is not too different from Neo’s argument that moderate Muslims should be tolerated. After studying Islam, I think that the number of genuinely tolerant Muslims is a small fraction of the total number of Muslims – probably 10% maximum.

  56. When I was married for five years to a woman from Avignon, whose relatives live in Marseille, they never talked about how much they hated Muslims. They talked all the time, however, about how much they hated Arabs.

Marseille has a lot of Arabs, much more mixed into the general populace than in Paris, for instance, where the Arabs live in banlieues, those “no-go” slums which surround the city. But the close contact with Arabs in Marseille is why this is Le Pen country — and followers of Le Pen are looked down on by the Parisian intelligentsia (the equivalents of elitist liberals in the U.S. “Virtue-signaling” is a way of life.)

  57. When I spent a fair amount of time in Tangier, where I became good friends with Paul Bowles, I knew many worldly-seeming Muslims who smoked kif every night and listened to Pink Floyd.

Sure. But I also ran into educated, English-speaking Moroccans who had no hatred of Israel or love for Khomeini’s Iran, yet sooner or later would intensely inquire: “Have you read the Koran?”

To respond that you were an atheist or uninterested in religion was a very bad idea. I was raised as a Lutheran, something I eventually rebelled against, but the only way you could get someone like to shut up about the Koran was to profess that you too had your faith. They could respect that. “Secular humanists,” on the other hand, they viewed as prey.

  58. From an address by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban delivered on March 15, 2016:

The times in which we live press us with this question, which is like a hussar’s sabre held to our chest: “Shall we live in slavery or in freedom?” The destiny of the Hungarians has become intertwined with that of Europe’s nations, and has grown to be so much a part of the union that today not a single people — including the Hungarian people — can be free if Europe is not free. And today Europe is as fragile, weak and sickly as a flower being eaten away by a hidden worm. Today, one hundred and sixty-eight years after the great freedom fights of its peoples, Europe — our common home — is not free.

    Ladies and Gentlemen,

Europe is not free, because freedom begins with speaking the truth. In Europe today it is forbidden to speak the truth. A muzzle is a muzzle — even if it is made of silk. It is forbidden to say that today we are not witnessing the arrival of refugees, but a Europe being threatened by mass migration. It is forbidden to say that tens of millions are ready to set out in our direction. It is forbidden to say that immigration brings crime and terrorism to our countries. It is forbidden to say that the masses of people coming from different civilisations pose a threat to our way of life, our culture, our customs, and our Christian traditions. It is forbidden to say that, instead of integrating, those who arrived here earlier have built a world of their own, with their own laws and ideals, which is forcing apart the thousand-year-old structure of Europe. It is forbidden to say that this is not accidental and not a chain of unintentional consequences, but a planned, orchestrated campaign, a mass of people directed towards us. It is forbidden to say that in Brussels they are constructing schemes to transport foreigners here as quickly as possible and to settle them here among us. It is forbidden to say that the purpose of settling these people here is to redraw the religious and cultural map of Europe and to reconfigure its ethnic foundations, thereby eliminating nation states, which are the last obstacle to the international movement. It is forbidden to say that Brussels is stealthily devouring ever more slices of our national sovereignty, and that in Brussels today many are working on a plan for a United States of Europe, for which no one has ever given authorisation.

    Ladies and Gentlemen,

Today’s enemies of freedom are cut from a different cloth than the royal and imperial rulers of old, or those who ran the Soviet system; they use a different set of tools to force us into submission. Today they do not imprison us, they do not transport us to camps, and they do not send in tanks to occupy countries loyal to freedom. Today the international media’s artillery bombardments, denunciations, threats and blackmail are enough — or rather have been enough so far. The peoples of Europe are slowly awakening, they are regrouping, and will soon regain ground. Europe’s beams laid on the suppression of truth are creaking and cracking. The peoples of Europe may have finally understood that their future is at stake: not only are their prosperity, their comfort and their jobs at stake, but their very security and the peaceful order of their lives are in danger. The peoples of Europe, who have been slumbering in abundance and prosperity, have finally understood that the principles of life upon which we built Europe are in mortal danger. Europe is a community of Christian, free and independent nations; it is the equality of men and women, fair competition and solidarity, pride and humility, justice and mercy.

  59. Islam has NO strict, moderate, or liberal ‘versions’. “Islam is Islam and that’s it!” Recep Erdogan

Islam does have hundreds of millions of Muslims who are unwilling to take up jihad. How many of its worldwide practitioners practice it… is the point, I can practice my own version of chess but that doesn’t change the rules of chess. Nor does all of those moderate Muslim’s personal practice change Islam’s nature even in the slightest.

“There ARE many “moderate Muslims” who do not follow the strictest version of the faith.”

No argument there, unfortunately that’s irrelevant to the nature of the threat.

“Islam is a religion and not akin to Naziism”.

Reality shall convince you otherwise. Totalitarian ideologies are about control and power and in their most basic and important aspects, Islam and Nazism are ‘fruit’ from the same tree.

THIS! George Soros’ ‘Open Borders Society’ has and is promoting and funding the ‘international movement’ and Europe’s elite are all trans-nationalists. Europe’s puppet masters are using Islam’s jihad migration, its hijrah, as the means to eliminate Europe’s cultural and ethnic foundations upon which nation states are based. The jihadist attacks are an unfortunate ‘complication’…

    Thank you mf!

  62. When the only offered choice to the West is convert, submit, or die …I’m guessing that some really, truly religious tolerant types are gonna re-think that “tolerance” thing pretty intimately as they gaze upon their innocent offspring sleeping peacefully in their safe warm beds while the sports arenas drip with blood from the most recent attacks.

I’m guessing when the choice of women is to submit to sexual slavery, and be the momentary playthings of some depraved barbarian, they will not willing choose to lie down in gentle surrender and acquiesce to the coming nightmare.

They will not be quite so complacent then.

Your “religious tolerance” is an historical aberration neo. A mere footnote in history.

The center will not hold as a religious war becomes less abstract, and ever more obvious.

Many of the mores and customs of the West are granted by through the luxury of supremacy, and wealth, and power.

When our survival is threatened, we aren’t going to listen to anyone reminding us of the sweet innocence of our long dead philosophers.

    We’re going to kill.

And when the West kills, we don’t do it by halves in some theater or airport or train station.

They say they want to die?

Sooner than later, we’re going to give them the martyrdom they crave.

The Warriors – most of whom don’t yet know they were always destined to be so – will arise as from legend. And fight. And kill.

Arthur will return. He always does.

On the wind of world conflict.

In the West, we tolerate while we can, and then we conquer.

And after a time, when that threat has been …neutralized …we’ll entertain our vague notions of rational comportment again.

Maybe …someday …in the far-off future, we’ll evolve to some sort of utopian plateau of convivial society.

    Hobbits, maybe.

    That would be nice.

I like entertaining the idea of someday living in the peaceful Shire (well, a Shire without the Nazgé»l …I wouldn’t like to be their neighbors at all).

But someday is looking a long way off right now.

We are going to kill them (ruthlessly and systematically and mercilessly) – the Muslims – for who they say they are, and what they say they believe.

And they as a people will have deserved it when the real carnage begins.

“Convert, submit, or die …” is a two edged sword when you get right down to it.

Your Islamic friends will find that out.

Ann Coulter’s infamous quote “kill all the men, and convert the women and children” will be looked at as somewhat unremarkable …and probably prescient …then.

    It’s gathering.
    It’s coming.
    It’s almost upon us.
    It’s here.

My guess is it only depends upon where you stand along that continuum as to whether you concur or object to this comment at this time.

No matter. Sooner or later we’re all going to be in the same place.

    Islam delenda est.

    Indeed.

  63. It would not be necessary to expel all Muslims from Europe or the US to remedy the problem. Muslims, particularly Arab Muslims, which are the ones we are mostly concerned with, are very compliant with the “strong horse.”

Complete and immediate destruction of Daesh, Al Qaeda, Boko Haram, Abu Sayef, and the rest of them (you’ll know we’re serious when the B-52s start raining those 1,000-pounders on Raqaa) cessation of all aid to Arabs (e.g., the Palestinians), enhanced interrogation, followed close upon by execution of Muslims who commit terrorist acts and expulsion of their families, and similar actions, will reduce terrorism substantially.

The Iranian nuclear deal should be rescinded (since it’s neither a treaty, nor have the Iranians signed it, that should not be a problem), and other nations informed that trade with Iran is now prohibited. Search and seizure of all ships and planes bound for Iran should be instituted. Russia should be informed that any continued supply to Iran of weapons, parts, or technicians will result in our producing enough oil to drop the world price to $5/barrel. Iranian assets should again be frozen, and no use of the banking system permitted without personal vetting of a transferee by the US Treasury. An immediate wartime-level naval shipbuilding program should be started, and a minimum 1 CVBG + 1 ARG battle group should be stationed in or near the Persian Gulf, Aegis cruisers and destroyers included, and all Iranian missile launches over their borders should be shot down.

As far as immigration and/or admission of refugees is concerned, no incoming Muslim family should be permitted to live with 100 miles of any other, and all mosques and madrassas with Wahabi imams and/or supported by the Saudis should be closed.

But, since we’re not going to do any of those, we’ll just have to suffer terrorism.

  64. Paraphrasing Admiral Bull Halsey:
Kill Islamists!, Kill Islamists! Kill more Islamists!

  65. Geoffrey Britain:

You’re very welcome. Funny. There was a time when I would have condsidered the Soros stuff just out there. Not so much anymore. Live and learn.

  66. Geoffrey Britain:

Islam may not have moderate branches, but there are moderate Muslims who are good citizens of this country and believe in its ideals.

Do you not know nominal Christians and nominal Jews who don’t follow all the precepts (or even most of the precepts) of their religions? Islam is no different. I know quite a few people born as Muslims who are not religious. Some are even atheists. I know these people quite well. They would be classified by Islam as Muslims, and they would be Muslims by birth, but they are very moderate and no threat at all. They constitute more than 10% but probably less than 50% of the Moslems in this country. Some of them, for example, are expat Iranians who came (or their parents came) to this country after the 1979 revolution. They no more want that sort of life for themselves or for other people than you do, and they are against terrorism. Nor do they want other people to become Muslim.

  67. Artfldgr:

Brussels has been well known to be in big big trouble with its Muslim population for years. I’ve read many many articles about it.

    See this.

  68. neo

    You are describing LAPSED Muslims.

Indeed, the first wave of Muslims in the modern West are largely lapsed Muslims — apostates — that are trying to FLEE.

They are not Musilms at all.

It’s just that — family connections and all — it’s IMPOSSIBLE for a Muslim fleeing Islam to ‘fess up — least of all to a kafir.

    &&&&&&&&&

One CAN NOT go on how on feels about this or that Muslim.

In Islam — like Imperial Japan — one DARES not express true feelings.

For in both societies… ones neck would provide the dividing point between now and eternity.

    Shintoism = Islamism

    That equation is shockingly strong.

The further you take it — the stronger it becomes.

  69. neo

There are indeed ‘moderate’ (I prefer the more accurate ‘cafeteria’) Muslims who are good citizens of this country and who believe in its ideals.

But they are in denial as to Islam’s nature and that denial, that willful blindness… is what allows them to embrace profoundly contradictory philosophies.

“Do you not know nominal Christians and nominal Jews who don’t follow all the precepts (or even most of the precepts) of their religions?”

Of course I do, as do we all. That analogy fails however when you assert that, ” Islam is no different.” Islam is profoundly different. Neither Abraham, Moses, David, Solomon, or Jesus ever promoted a violent, expansionist totalitarianism. None of them offered the choice to all of conversion, slavery or death. Which is why the atrocities in Christianity’s name were not sustainable. The inquisition and forced conversion were and are antithetical to Christ’s message and teachings.

Whereas, Allah and Muhammad adamantly and repeatedly insist upon that choice, as the only choice. Allah made it an obligatory, theological imperative to convert, subdue or kill by any means necessary.

“I know quite a few people born as Muslims who are not religious.”

    Then they are not Muslim.

    “Some are even atheists.”

An atheist, categorically cannot be a Muslim. Any devout Muslim would especially relish a meeting with them.

“I know these people quite well. They would be classified by Islam as Muslims, and they would be Muslims by birth, but they are very moderate and no threat at all.”

Regardless of what they tell you, Allah’s dictates are quite clear that neither Allah nor Muhammad considers them to be Muslim. They know that, and that is why they are silent, even on the anonymous internet, where no threat of reprisal exists.

“They no more want that sort of life for themselves or for other people than you do, and they are against terrorism. Nor do they want other people to become Muslim.”

I’m confident that is the case with many of them. The problem is that we cannot know that to be true, given Islam’s twin doctrines of deceit; Taqiyya and Muruna. To ask us to take their word for it and rely upon character witnesses is to ask us to risk the deaths of those we hold most dear. And, as at least 25% (of 3.3 MILLION) of American Muslims support violence against Americans… it is not a problem that can be dismissed.

It’s not that expelling all who refuse to renounce Islam is just, for it patently is not. It is that it is the only sure means of ending the internal threat. Innocent bystanders are war’s most tragic victims. Contemplating it is to weep.

We are not ending religious tolerance, they are forcing us, as a matter of survival, to redefine it more strictly than we would wish.

…even if you are law-abiding and living as a citizen of this country. The sooner you act – through cooperation with authorities and through your vigilance – to root out this evil festering among you, the sooner this difficult period will end.

    ***
    Willful blindness is always complicity.
Especially when the attackers make deliberate, determined, and publicized efforts to penetrate the blindness:
    http://www.breitbart.com/national-security/2016/03/22/isis-claims-responsibility-for-brussels-attacks-quotes-islamic-law-to-justify-slaughter-of-civilians/
“First we want to make it clear to all that what makes the kafir’s blood permissible to spill is not him fighting the Muslims, rather it is his “KUFR” that necessitates his killing. So if one asks, can you kill a Kafir (who does not fight Islam and muslims)? the answer is a big YES,” declares the ISIS post, getting right to the point.

There follows a lengthy citation of Islamic verse, which has Allah stressing that “unbelievers” should be treated exactly the opposite as “believers” in all things,..

Another verse has Allah saying that if infidels “repent and perform As-Salat, and give Zakat, then leave their way free.” As-Salat is praying to Allah, while zakat is a religious tax.

ISIS concludes this means the only way for unbelievers to “repent” is conversion to Islam. Absent such a conversion, “their blood would not be protected and would be legal to spill and their wealth would be halal to take.” Halal means “permitted under Islamic law.”

“Allah also has made the blood of every kafir legal to spill in the general ayah: “So when the sacred months have passed away, then slay the idolaters wherever you find them, and take them captives and besiege them and lie in wait for them in every ambush” (At-Tawbah verse 5),” the Islamic State continues. “The general ayah” means “basic religious writing.” Several more writings from Islamic scholars throughout history on the legality of murdering infidels are quoted, with some consideration granted to properly subdued infidels who pay the special jizya tax of submission to their Muslim overlords. The blood of infidels is compared to that of pigs and dogs.

Also, ISIS says Allah has no patience for the idea of infidel non-combatants: “Allah just said the mushrikeen (idolators), so he never differentiated the ‘innocent civilians’ from the ‘fighting soldiers.’ So who are we to differentiate the kuffar today?”

The statement directly challenges the common assertion that ISIS is abusing or misinterpreting Islamic law.

“For those that say that we mistranslate these Quranic verses of Jihad and Qitaal and we go against the ‘known’ ‘ulamaa’: then give them this audio by Shaykh Ibn ‘Utheymin who they respect a lot who says exactly what we have said now,” says the ISIS statement, referring to a prominent Saudi scholar of Salafist Sunni Islam who died in 2001…
Further quotes from Allah in Koranic verses are offered to support literal retribution for acts against Muslims, such as, “So whoever has transgressed against you, then transgress against him in the same way that he has transgressed against you.”
    ***
That’s not exactly the Golden Rule as I remember it.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Bartholomew%27s_Day_massacre

The difference between these two events and the ISIS butchery is that ISIS followers can quote verses in the Koran that justify their savagery. And of course the Christian events took place in the 13th and 15th centuries, while the Islamic barbarians are here now.

  74. Let’s not forget that the Christian events everyone decries occurred after years of unprovoked attacks by Muslims in which millions of Christians were killed or enslaved. The Christians finally got fed up and got rid of the Muslims as best they could. After the Crusades and the reconquista ended, the Muslims continued to attack the coastal areas of Europe from bases in North Africa for many centuries and took thousands of slaves every year.

  76. David French. National Review Online. In the Aftermath of Brussels, There Is a Mistake We Shouldn’t Make

No, jihad is an eternal, all-encompassing unholy war against the unbeliever. It is waged in the mind of the believer, to fortify his or her own courage and faith. It is waged online and in the pages of books and magazines, to simultaneously cultivate the hatred and contempt of the committed for the kafir – the unbeliever – while also currying favor, appeasement, and advantage from the gullible West. Jihad is the teaching in the mosque. It is the prayer in the morning, the social-media post in the afternoon, and the donation to an Islamic “charity” in the evening.

There is jihad in predatory, coordinated sexual assault, there is jihad when Western camera crews are chased from Muslim neighborhoods, and there is jihad when Muslim apologists invariably crawl from the sewers of Western intelligentsia, blaming Europeans for the imperfections in their life-saving hospitality. So don’t make the mistake of believing that Europe or America only “periodically” or “rarely” deal with jihad.

We confront it every day, just as the world has confronted it – to greater or lesser degrees – ever since Muslim armies first emerged from the Arabian peninsula. While not all Muslims are jihadists, jihad is so deeply imprinted in the DNA of Islam that the world will confront it as long as Islam lives.

    Emphasis mine. Naturally.

    It’s gathering.
    It’s coming.
    It’s almost upon us.
    It’s here.

    …as long as Islam lives.

Yeah. That’s kind of the point, isn’t it.

  77. After all foreigners are expelled, set up concentration camps for native-born and converts, labeling them as lunatic asylums. This would amount to several hundred thousand capacity, which is pittance in financial terms compared to comprehensive security apparatus needed otherwise. As for religious freedom, just declare that Islam is not a religion, but Nazi-like murderous totalitarian ideology which must be suppressed and eradicated.

  78. This exactly what Israeli politician Avigdor Liberman recently asserted: We should drain the swamps instead of chasing mosquitoes. Only this approach will bring us the final solution.

  79. WRT moderate Muslims:
Brigitte Gabrielle made an observation. Only a few Germans were Nazis, yet the Nazis set the program. The peaceful majority were irrelevant. She went on in this vein regarding the Japanese, the Russians under Stalin, Pol Pot. The peaceful majority are irrelevant.
She passed over, for simplicity, that you didn’t need to be a Nazi to be non-peaceful, or a soldier. you didn’t need to be one of the Japanese military high command to think expansion into China was a dandy idea and all the millions dead were not a problem.
You don’t have to be a violent jihadist to refrain from dropping the dime on one who is.
Somebody suggested that US Muslims will garner far less suspicion when:
At three in the morning, a pickup truck stops in front of an FBI office. Just briefly. After which, three bodies are found, with jihadi materials and weapons, fingerprints and ID from a watch list, and a note nailed to their chests, “Courtesy of the Seventh Avenue Mosque.”
Complaints about the backlash from tomorrow’s bombing of a junior high don’t, for some reason, make the rest of us happy.

  80. Just thinking that the West’s responses to ISIS in 2015-16 has been displaying colored lights on buildings and make-shift memorials.

  81. Richard Aubrey:

We were at war with the country of Germany, and therefore all German citizens (including those who hated Nazism) were at risk, because it was a war.

However, people of German extraction who were citizens of this country during WWII are a better analogy with the present situation re Muslim citizens of this country. Here’s the scoop on what happened to them:

The government examined the cases of German nationals individually, and detained relatively few in internment camps run by the Department of Justice, as related to its responsibilities under the Alien and Sedition Acts. To a much lesser extent, some ethnic German US citizens were classified as suspect after due process and also detained. Similarly, a small proportion of Italian nationals and Italian Americans were interned in relation to their total population in the US.

  82. neo Point is that the peaceful majority is irrelevant, so that talking about the peaceful Muslim majority is irrelevant. It’s supposed to mean we don’t have a problem with Muslims or something.
Couple of suggestions for the peaceful Muslim majority. I wish this had been my idea:
Three in the morning, a pickup truck stops briefly in front of an FBI office.
Shortly thereafter, three bodies are found, surrounded with jihadi materials, weapons and so forth. Nailed to the chest of each is the following note. “To our friends at the FBI from the Seventh Avenue Mosque”.
Or, should a terr do something awful and be discovered to belong to a particular mosque and…they didn’t drop the dime before or after, the mosque is torn down. One of the problems in Europe is that there are Muslim neighborhoods far more interested in solidarity than justice. The recent arrest in Mollenbeck, a Muslim area, was after the guy had been hiding with his homies for a month. Who rioted after he was arrested.
As Gabrielle says, the peaceful majority is irrelevant and…at least some of them are a threat.
This is not like conventional Westphalian-model war. It’s not like a criminal problem.
It’s new, at least to the West.
We need to stop trying to force it into a model which does not fit. We need to see it for what it is, for itself. Then the response will be more useful. Treating this like the occasional Presbyterian run amok is not the best way to address the issue.
I suspect that the power behind trying to fit it into something we already know is to avoid the horrid conclusion that the only useful response is, itself…horrid.

  83. Richard Aubrey:

The peaceful majority is not the least bit irrelevant when you’re trying to decide what to DO with that peaceful majority in your own country.

That’s what we’re talking about here.

As I’ve said before, if anyone reads this blog it’s easy to see that I have come down very hard on Islamic terrorism, and feel it is directly related to Islam. I have no problem being un-PC about that. But I also recognize that there really are peaceful, moderate Muslims, both around the world and in this country, and their rights and their lives matter.

I believe it is possible to discriminate and make decisions about who to deport, who to detain, who to not let in, and who to allow to be here. We need to be a great deal more strict, and do a great deal more monitoring (for example, of mosques, and to close the radical ones down).

  84. neo
Both the FBI and the Brit cops have said the Muslim communities here and there have been effectively zero help.
See Rotherham. You’d have thought a couple of these peaceful, decent Muslims would have gone to the cops.
Peaceful, decent Muslims are going to be a problem if they allow solidarity to trump their duty as citizens. In addition, peaceful, decent Muslims frequently have radicalized children.
This whole thing is so different than anything we’ve seen in the West that we don’t even understand it, nor allow ourselves to understand it.
Muslims in this country have done something no other minority group has accomplished: They get what they want because they’re victimized ™ or because they’ll blow you up. This is new.
None of the gay couples, seeking to liven up their big day by searching for an evil Christian fundy to do their wedding, have accidentally stumbled on a Muslim bakery.
Ted Cruz called for monitoring and was condemned. Considering what the courts did for NYC’s stop and frisk procedures, what chance does Cruz’ plan have?

  85. neo,

“We were at war with the country of Germany, and therefore all German citizens (including those who hated Nazism) were at risk, because it was a war.”

We ARE in a state of war with Islam because Islam is making war upon us. It takes two to make a baby. It only takes one to make war upon another. Denying that one is being made war upon, changes nothing.

“However, people of German extraction who were citizens of this country during WWII are a better analogy with the present situation re Muslim citizens of this country.”

That is true only in part. German American citizen’s loyalty to America was a nationality issue, i.e. was the subject loyal to America or Germany? There was no inherent, historical religious/ideological conflict at play. Given the fundamental antipathy between Islam and classical western precepts, war makes unavoidable the necessity of choosing between the two.

“I have come down very hard on Islamic terrorism, and feel it is directly related to Islam. I have no problem being un-PC about that.”

    Who here has indicated otherwise?

“I also recognize that there really are peaceful, moderate Muslims, both around the world and in this country, and their rights and their lives matter.”

I suspect nearly all here recognize that to be true.

“I believe it is possible to discriminate and make decisions about who to deport, who to detain, who to not let in, and who to allow to be here.”

Given Taqiyya and Muruna, how exactly would that work? Almost none of the migrants can be vetted to any reliable degree of certainty. While several polls by different pollsters indicate decided support among American Muslims for Sharia law and even violence.

“We need to be a great deal more strict, and do a great deal more monitoring (for example, of mosques, and to close the radical ones down).”

51% of American mosques were found to have “had texts that either advocated the use of violence in the pursuit of a Shari’a-based political order or advocated violent jihad as a duty that should be of paramount importance to a Muslim.” How much verbal reinforcement is being promulgated by the Imams and Mullahs at those mosques? 100% of American mosques preach from the Qur’an and not one comma within it can be changed. 100% of American mosques support Islam’s doctrine of abrogation, which dismisses the Qur’an’s peaceful passages. Yet when confronted on the internet with that doctrine, invariably the response is silence.

  86. I suspect Bush tried to make it easier for moderate Muslims in America was because the mosques were feeding the FBI insider info on terrorists cells.

So Bush, emotionally, tried to support that by covering for moderate Muslims. After all, the FBI did have arrests of terrorist cells, often with “unknown” sources tipping them off. Citizen sources, not necessarily NSA.

Gitmo enhanced interrogation helped as well, later on.

People don’t know about this stuff, so they have no capability to judge one way or another whether it was good or bad for them. That’s how things usually are in America.

  87. The issue with moderate and peaceful Muslims is how Islam uses funding for jihad. During the Caliphs and Caliphates, all Muslims were required to pay money to mosques, like tithes, which were then used to fund the Caliph’s secular wars and holy wars.

When a Caliph is designated, a Muslim obeys, and anyone who disobeys that was born a Muslim, will be made to obey or be killed for it.

That’s the problem, when the West destroyed the Caliphate, they didn’t do a permanent job of it. The Europeans, as usual, had unfinished job hanging around. Sort of like WW1.

Islam is a secular and religious murdering machine, an imperial conquest system that works and has been refined over centuries.

The West can barely take on their own internal traitors, the Leftist alliance. They cannot take on the Left and Islam at the same time.
