  1. Fun skit. The more distinctive the culture, the easier to satirize.

  2. The Scots manage to combine the most foolish kind of statism and socialism with petty nationalism motivated primarily by a completely irrational Anglophobia (the marriage to England was far and away the most important event in Scottish history and the catalyst for the brilliance of the Scottish Enlightenment and the disproportionate contribution of the Scots to the British Empire). Scotland (the “land of the Irish”) has the most inequitable system of land ownership in Europe, as well as the highest rates of welfare dependency in the UK, and yet, while blaming its problems on the “auld enemy”, would happily be subservient to unelected, overpaid bureaucrats in Brussels. It is truly difficult to understand how a people who once contributed so much to Britain and the world have sunk so low.

  3. Sorry, is this supposed to be funny? The joke should’ve ended with the first “If it’s not Scot’ish it’s crrrrap!!”

  4. I’m part English, part Scotch, part Irish and part Welsh and I only this week bothered to learn the difference between Great Britain and the United Kingdom.

  5. This is the second recent clip to this era SNL. This was the show at its best. The show was more innovative in the 70’s, but it was never funnier than the mid-80’s to the mid-90’s.

I tried to stay with it during the Tina Fey era, but it became unwatchable. Not just because of its political agenda, but that was part of it. It was just so smug and ironic in an unironic way. I guess everyone has an “I didn’t leave popular culture, popular culture left me” moment as they get older; SNL was mine.

For me, my firewall became too efficient and strong, and it just began blocking all the Left’s meme and virus attacks.
