Dog reveille — 12 Comments

  1. We used to have a yellow lab that would howl every time she heard a siren. You could tell she was trying as hard as she could not to, but she couldn’t help it. That video made us miss her.

  2. It is obvious that Van has never had a Golden. Aggression is not one of their typical personality traits. Wonderful dogs, but how the shed!

  3. One of our mutts is very vocal. He howls with sirens and for unknown reasons ‘talks’ when we play Otis Redding’s Dock of the Bay on the Bose.

  4. Goldens are ordinarily great great dogs.

But very high-shedding. And they can whip you with their happy tails.

  5. My husband and I have had German Shepherds for 40 years. Our first shepherd and his son would have a group howl with us every morning when we woke up. Great bonding, but we’ve never encouraged it with any of the others!

  6. Old Whiteface there. Time to pull out Kipling:
“We’ve trouble enough in the natural way. Why give your heart to a dog to tear?”
Our golden was a sweet, kind, patient attention sponge.
Except when a stranger, even worse another dog, approached her pack–which is to say our grandkids.
She took down a German Shepherd, once, one which had attacked my son and granddaughter–who was in a backpack.
But mostly she’d warn with a roar like a lion. Usually worked.

  7. Our poodles are and golden was sensitive to words and intonation. They also have selective memory and hearing at time. : )

That makes them superior to fanatical Democrats and Leftists then, who can’t read the atmosphere of a dinner party when espousing political dogma.

  8. Could be, dogs don’t have the franchise, or care about politics, hostility and aggression now that’s another matter.
